SRPD News Release: SRPD seeks help in locating a missing adult

Sunshine Borjas was reported missing to the Santa Rosa Police Department in the evening of October 1, 2025. Borjas left her Santa Rosa home at approximately 1:30 pm and drove to Bodega Head where she was believed to be hiking alone. Borjas’s vehicle was located by law enforcement in the parking lot of Bodega Head during the early morning hours of October 2, 2025.

Borjas is 47 years old, approximately 5-feet 5-inches tall, and weighs approximately 155 pounds. She has blonde hair and blue eyes. Borjas was last seen wearing a grey shirt, grey leggings, and black sneakers.

These days I'm not sure which scenario to hope for in this case, 1. SB was hiking alone and vulnerable to risks of hiking alone in the wild, or 2. SB was with someone who is also missing and/or who might have done something to SB.

Growing up in mountains in WA state I don't really that of that area as "the wild" but you have a great point - it's rugged, and beautiful, but it's close to town, shops, food, and people so you think it will be safe. But it's still nature, with cliffs, wind, unstable rock formations (possibly) and the two legged predators that exist anywhere. She probably just planned on a simple short hike.

What a beautiful place for an easy hike. I hope the authorities and the public are actively looking for her.

I don't know what cell coverage is available there. Many of us have experienced spotty cell connections even in places where you would not expect that.

My first guess is accident - she fell and broke an ankle and cannot walk, for example.
Second guess is medical emergency - heart attack, burst aneurism, etc.
Third guess is foul play.
Fourth guess is suicide.
That about covers it. I hope she is found safe.

Thanks for that info - I hadn't thought of fog (and I should have, I was based as a pilot out of SFO airport and fog was a constant there). The only thing I could add, as hard as it is to think about, is if she fell off those cliffs, onto the beach area, (pretty much a non surviveable fall IMO), the tide may have effectively removed her from that area, hence no discovery of her alive or otherwise.

Otherwise, it's a pretty well traveled, mostly open area, if she's been injured or harmed and left there, she would have been found by now.

Regarding the 4th guess, I hope searchers are also looking up as well as down. I recall someone who self-harmed from a tree branch and was undetected during initial searches.

I hope for a "found alive" outcome. There are other examples of hikers injuring themselves and surviving for days until found.

Could SB have been abducted away from the trail head before she started hiking? Or could she have willingly left with someone perhaps after a hike?

That area seems so open and visible I am having a hard time speculating SB is waiting for rescue due to an injury and has yet to be found 2 days later.

I suspect she ended up in the ocean somehow and is deceased, or left the area with another person involuntarily or voluntarily and may still be alive.

While reading comments on an MSM FB page about this case, I saw a local mention the sea was very rough on Wednesday, 10/1. In essence they wonder if SB was swept away by a rogue wave while standing on the rocky shore?

Part of the trail is immediately adjacent to the cliff edge. In fog, if trying to get too close for a "selfie" or other scenario, a fall down into the water is quite possible. Photos attached from the trail info I had linked earlier.

Here are the tide(s) calendar for the month of October. High tide on the first would have been around 9 ish in the morning and again after 6 pm at night.
