Hawks disappearance is being discussed on another forum, here, as well.

Prayers for Tom and Jackie, and for Matt and Ryan.

I am tickled they are now posted in the missing forum. I was just showing others where they could discuss the criminal aspect of the case, as I believe (?) this forum is primarily for advocacy and news, etc.

I think the Hawks family appreciate Jackie & Tom being posted here.
God bless you and thanks.

A Long Beach man who bought a yacht from a missing retired couple and may have been the last person to see them alive pleaded not guilty Monday to charges linking him to large-scale drug sales.
Skylar James Deleon answered to three counts of laundering money from drug sales and three counts of possessing money related to narcotics sales.

Prosecutor Matt Murphy said Deleon, 25, bought a 55-foot cabin cruiser from the missing couple, Tom and Jackie Hawks, but Murphy declined to say whether he is a suspect in their disappearance.--->>

Deleon, who has a previous conviction for burglary, appeared as a child actor in the "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers' television show, according to Michael Molfetta, an attorney for Jennifer. --->> http://www.presstelegram.com/Stories/0,1413,204~23170~2613373,00.html

This case has gotten my attention. It is a real mystery so far...

Unfortunately I must admit that I dont see a happy ending coming out of this. I hope I am wrong, but I think the couple are no longer with us. No activity on their bank accounts, credit cards, cell phones... all that supposed cash money. No calls during the holidays, especially with news of a baby in the family, some of their personal effects still being on the boat, car being found in Mexico --- I wish there was some other conclusion than the one I think--

prayers for them and their family

From what I've read about the local case, the Orange County PD seems to be looking really hard at the buyer: a mid-twentysomething man who paid the $400,000 price in cash. This buyer is now under arrest for "money laundering." I take that to mean that they are holding him for something unrelated just to keep him locked up.

The arrest is being discussed in the "Crimes in the News" forum, as previously linked in post # 2.

Updates can be found on their web site, which is linked in post # 1.

Hope this helps.

why LE was asking the media not to publish any photos of Skylar Deleon-is there anyone out there in LE that could give a reason for this????

Maybe the "buyer" is in the witness protection program. Maybe he's a snitch. But it sure is unusual for LE to arrest a suspect for another alleged crime (money laundering) rather than for the crime at hand: murder of two innocents.

I don't know that it's all that unusual yadler. Consider this. When they have someone, a suspect in a serious crime, but they don't have enough evidence to hold them on THAT charge, but during their investigation they do have enough evidence on ANOTHER charge, I would think that they would try to get the individual off the street on the lesser charge, while they try to compile evidence for the more serious crime. Watcha think?

Oh I agree. It's just so transparent, don't you think? I guess LE just doesn't have probable cause to make an arrest at this juncture. So keeping the suspect warm on another charge sounds great to me.
From what I've read, he paid $400,000 cash. He's 24 years old. Huh? Hallooooo. So the money laundering from the sale of drugs is sound.

What about the part of not showing his picture?

Could that be to keep the public unaware of his likeness because others are out there and may not know his real name but would recognize his picture? and about his name...I couldn't find him listed in the MMPR cast...how did the media get that info? Did he go by a different name in MMPR? If so, how did the media get that info and why haven't they reported his stage name (if he has one)?

Doesn't everybody who's 24 have 400 grand in cash, just lyin' around? :D

ETA: Yes, it's transparent, but if the only charge you can go with is the drug charge, you do what you can.

What a gorgeous couple! It seems there would be some clue as to their fate. No DNA anywhere? I hope the authorities are monitoring the former MMPR very closely...including the use of phone calls and GPS devices.

I think that they were just thrown overboard. Unless the suspect they have now decides to talk, I imagine that the State will have to forensically prove his guilt. Should teach us all about the dangers of buying/selling from individuals.

So what happened to the $400,000? If he paid cash for the boat, did the cash turn up in the couple's bank account? If he killed them for the boat, wouldn't he just keep the cash, and there be no record of the transaction? Why buy the boat, transfer the money, then kill the couple? Doesn't make sense.

I guess the $400,000 is still out there, if it existed in the first place....this guy reportedly completed the transaction with the Hawks, in a parking lot no less! right....

Unless Law Enforement can find the $400,000 cash, they might think that the couple was murdered for their boat.
