CA - Use of deadly force by police disappears on Richmond streets

The topic if the thread isn't even the crime rate. This was supposed to be a pretty pro-LE thread in light of all the recent negative threads about LE.

You are right, and I apologize.

I was initially all happy to see such a positive story, but got caught up in defending that success.

It sucks that non-violent SUCCESSFUL police policies are under attack. And I agree, that takes away from what ought to be a laudable effort and outcome in Richmond.

Let's bring this thread back to celebrating positive community relations between LE and citizens. :loveyou:

Sorry. I'm not always pro-police. I sometimes make mistakes.

It's okay. I am not always pro-LE, either. I read too many stories about horrible abuse of power by police. It becomes hard to support such abuses, I know.

But this story was so positive, it made me hopeful that this is the way it could be in all cities.

Hey, if this story could restore MY faith in LE, maybe it could be a positive thing for you, too! I am actually very hopeful that this will be the model for future police departments.

Maybe he'll be lauded if he shoots an unarmed mental patient.

That unarmed mental patient presented a threat to LE, unlike a band of armed militia who actually THREATENED to kill police. Durrr. You kill the unarmed guy and take the terrorists to lunch.

Right. Just seems some folks who defend them shooting anything that moves don't want to applaud a positive move....that frustration is catching

I found a couple of articles from around December 2006 that are about the possibility of a lawsuit against Chris Magnus by six named police officers.

An interesting tidbit is that Christopher Dolan the guy who is representing Brain Dead Jahi McMath was the original attorney representing the six officers.

Of course we know now that the jury did not believe any of the officers and Magnus was exonerated.

Seeing that Dolan was involved tells me alot.

Actually, crime has dropped 75% over the last few years, with spikes and valleys interspersed, so this is false.

The entire State of California has experienced a 64% drop in crime, so Richmond's rate is not all that significant, in my opinion.

The murder rate last year was 4.6 killings per 100,000 California residents, an 8 percent decline from 2012 and a 64 percent decline from 1993, when cities throughout the state struggled to stop gang killings.

The violent crime rate last year was 397 per 100,000 Californians, down 7 percent from 2012 and a 64 percent decline from 1992.

My post was in response to a comment about the spike last year and how it's a normal spike amongst a steady decline.

I see this as a positive. I see this as a "Holy crap, someone on the inside gets it!" He reminds me of a police chief I knew (who went on to be mayor of Portland), another liberal hippie type we don't see often enough behind a badge. :)

Oh yeah. That adds a whole layer of side-eye-worthy hinkyism.
