CBS47 spoke with one of Rincon’s best friends on Wednesday. Kelly Garcia describes Rincon as a mild-tempered, nurturing mother. However, drug abuse may have created some very dark moments in Rincon's mind. While the two were recently hanging out, Rincon made some disturbing revelations.

“She was hallucinating and seeing some demons,” Garcia said of Rincon.


Garcia later learned that those demons were likely products of Rincon mixing prescription anti-depressants and illegal drugs.

“She just said she was tired of living the way she was living and she was ready to change her life,” said Garcia.

Neighbor Lasherry Miller witnessed part of the attack on Tuesday. She could tell Rincon was not in a normal state of mind.

“She was speaking a different language and her pupils were really big. She was looking really scared and when the paramedics came to help her son, she tried to stop them and fight them,” said Miller.

Wonder what her background is? Is she bi-polar, phsyzophrenic. Sometimes those voices tell you to do terrible things - insanity. No "normal" mother would do such a thing. Drugs/alcohol?

None of these are an excuse - but would help me understand the brain better. I really want to know why people commit such acts -- there has to be an answer.

This reminds me of a case that still haunts me to this day. Remember Axel Casian who was beaten beyond recognition by his father on a rural road in Turlock CA ?
Toxicology tests came back negative for drugs.

Sergio Casian Aguiar of Turlock told people who urged him to stop late Saturday that the boy was "trash," the witnesses said. He asked for a knife at one point and, at another, said, "Look how they make toys now."

The reason a father with no criminal record would commit such a brutal killing was still a mystery on Monday. Authorities do not know whether Aguiar was drunk or on drugs, and toxicology reports on him and his son will not be available for three to four weeks, said sheriff's spokesman Deputy Royjindar Singh.

The boy was beaten so savagely that DNA tests will be needed to confirm his identity, Singh said. His name has not been released.

I am wondering if little Noah is doing any better medically. Has anyone local heard anything on the news - I found no updates on him. Noah shares my birthday - April 13th - and I hope he recovers and lives a healthy happy life. Stories like this are the reason why sometimes I skip an evening of Websleuths because I sometimes cannot hear any more bad news. Way too much of this type of thing happening anymore.

That is absolutely sickening. I think I remember that, although I hadn't found WS yet. Isn't it sad that I think I remember that?

ok - according to the 6 o'clock news she is at a mental health facility instead of the jail. When she is formally "arrested" she will be charged with Attempted murder, Child Abuse, & Cruelty. Her sister repeated she had abused drugs in the past - but didn't think she was using right now. A Talking Head on tv stated "she needs to be evaluated" for both substances and mental issues. They also want to know if she reached out to anybody in the community or family members. God I hate that phrase.

No updates from neighbors in the other apts. I'll watch again at 11.

Where's dad?

Wasn't this the rationale for legalizing abortions? So people who didn't want kids wouldn't have to have them, thus no more child abuse?

Everytime something like this happens, I wonder why, if she didn't want them, or him, why didn't she just take him to a family member, or csd?

It's so tough to say what we would do in situations. Especially situations like this. Honestly, if i came upon some lunatic who was getting all stabby and is obviously a crazy cakes I doubt I'd jump in between the mom and child. Now, I'd call 911 for sure. Maybe even try and drag the child out ofharms way, BUT standing up and fighting a woman with a knife who stabs her own child this way? I think it would cross my mind my own kids need a mother.

Then again you just do not know. I saw an elderly woman get mugged and against my better judgement ran to help. The guy who pummelled and pushed this poor lady was huge. It was obvious he was one nasty SOB breaking a 90 year old or so ladies ribs, arm and nose. It just kicked in for me that this lady needed my help.

We just never know.

I think your story of helping the old woman says that we indeed do know.
Of course you would have done whatever you could have to save Noah.
I've no doubt, and thanks for responding with your heart, not your head for a defenseless person. It is what America is suppose to look like.,you make me proud.

Thanks for the update! Did anyone see the Dr. Phil show yesterday? A bio-egg-donar mentally abused her child because she (the child) looked like her ex-husband. Lot of that going on right now - truly scary what I watched.

It really freaked me out when I read this. I was severely abused mentally and emotionally for many years by my mother. After I finally gathered the strength to break off the relationship and stop all contact, she kept telling my daughter how I looked just like my father. It was then that I finally understood her behavior all of those years. They weren't divorced, but they should have been. I still don't understand something so stupid making someone act like that, but apparently it happens and I'm not the only one.

Mental illness and substance abuse often go hand-in-hand as people try to "fix" themselves chemically. In so many cases an underlying mental disorder leads people to pick up drugs.
