CA CA - Vernon 'Cody' Matthews, 23, Pollock Pines, 6 June 2014

I understand that Cody's family cabin burned down. Was there an investigation to see if arson was involved? Was someone trying to cover up a crime? Wish we knew what happened to Cody. He seemed close to his folks; I don't think he would intentionally cause them this unbearable worry. A bear attack is certainly a possibility, but I think some kind of remnant of the attack would have been found-- a shoe, bits of fabric--something. I think the cabin break-in prior to Cody's arrival has more to do with his disappearance. Someone around there must know or have heard something. I hope the family gets answers soon.
From what I read, the fire wasn't just the cabin but a forest fire that devastated the area.

Pollock Pines is not far from Sacramento, CA. While not the likely place he is, have the homeless shelters ever been contacted there? Just in case. Is his picture out anywhere?

I see a homeless guy fairly often that reminds me of this fellow. If I can find him, I'm going to try to take his picture for comparison.

How was his relationship at home with his family? Did he voluntarily go to the cabin and how long was he going to stay there? Was his clothes still in the cabin when his parents arrived? I read the table was set like he was about to eat...Was his phone ever recovered?

Still baffled as to what may have happened to Cody. I keep thinking it relates to the cabin break-in, but I always wish he may have gone off the radar hiking and living in the woods. I hope there will be answers for his parent's sake.

I haven't had the opportunity to talk to the homeless guy I mentioned, but he is still around. I don't think it is Cody. This guy here seems older, and has different features. But I still want to talk to him.

Thanks for linking this - it was really insightful to hear what his parents had to say, including several details that were never reported in MSM. I used to believe he perished and the fire destroyed any chance of us ever knowing until by some miracle a hunter or hiker finds him, but after hearing his story, I really believe he could have chosen to go off into the wild to live. If they haven't already, his parents should track down any indigenous groups that are still living traditionally, nearby communes, or get another anthropologist that knows the area to weigh in on where Cody may have gone or been attracted to.

I don't recall if his cellphone was ever recovered. If he voluntarily left and took the phone then why wouldn't he have used it?..I believe he ran into whoever ransacked the cabin while he was outside. Listened to the podcast and the cabin was thoroughly ransacked...Hidden game cameras were stolen from neighbors properties..very unusual...I think the fingerprints that were recovered have to be periodically submitted for any hits by LE...
