Wikipedia says they closed on March 11, 1984.

Tiny Naylors on Sunset Blvd. (This blog also mentions 1984)

TIny Naylor's on Sunset at La Brea was an example of "Googie architecture". There was a bit of an uproar when it was demolished. In 1984, the Conservancy created a Fifties Task Force (now the Modern Committee) to fight the rapid destruction of important Modern architecture throughout L.A. County. The final straw was the loss of two beloved Googie coffee shops, Tiny Naylor’s at Sunset Boulevard and La Brea Avenue (Douglas Honnold, 1949)https://www.laconservancy.org/sites/default/files/files/documents/Jul-Aug15.pdf

The La Times article referenced in Wikipedia, but not available was written by an architecture critic.
I think 1980 gets tossed around because people say "The 80's" then it gets changed to 1980. And TBH, most people don't remember the exact year a fast food place closed. They just remember that it closed around a certain time. Life goes on and many places have closed. Dates get blurred etc etc...
Thank you. It sounds the building was demolished in 1984 after sitting vacant for awhile. I’m wondering about the time frame surrounding the actual closure. In addition to the person on Facebook claiming they closed in 1980, these were the first two things that came up for me after Googling “What year did Tiny Naylor’s close?”

And

Both also state that the original location closed in 1980. Maybe like you said, these sources are confused and just rounding the year off because I’m doubting it actually sat empty from 1980-1984, but who knows? I was only interested in the closure date to try to rule out Chouest’s statement about picking her up there but honestly even if the building was sitting there vacant, I guess he still could have picked her up from that location.

Zoom in and you will see, there is a planned auction on the premise at 10:30 am on Tuesday, March 13, 1984.
Shops are planned for the Fall of 1984 on the sign.

To the left, you will see a guy with a truck moving equipment.

The photographer is credible with the of date of March 12,1984 because he seems to document stuff around town via photos. Also the sign at Tiny's says Auction on March 13th. And the sign also references new stores coming in the fall of 1984.

Also there is serving equipment outside that was also outside in 1976 photos of Tiny's. I doubt this equipment would have been left outside over a period of several years or would have survived being left out for several years. RN-148-20.tif | Historic Hollywood Photographs

Here is the caption: Tiny Naylor's restaurant, closed shortly before this 1984 photo was taken, at the northwest corner of Sunset Blvd and LaBrea Ave in Los Angeles. Note the guy loading stuff into a truck in the left background.

Also the La Times said good bye to Tiny's on March 9th 1984.

One way on FB would be to go to a Los Angeles group.

We have a "Street News" group. It started as a response to toilet paper and grocery shortage. However, once the shortage was over, it turned into a whatever group. Missing people are featured along with every thing else. Lost and found etc. Many of the participants are lower income because many of the members made masks and sold them.

We also have a local "Do you remember" groups..Discussion consists mainly of venues, however crime cases also pop up. We had a cold case discussion of the 1976 murder of a wealthy woman and actually got somewhere. Our group is full of media people and local celebrities. (I quickly learned never bash a local celebrity because they were in the group..LOL) We had someone join the group searching for a friend that she hadn't seen since HS etc..
.
It may be worth posting in those types of groups, indicating where she likely lived and mention Tiny Naylors...This would be broader than a Tiny Naylors group...

I would hope that local LE would be aware of those groups because they are great ways to exchange information.

They may have "low riders" groups, "You know you are from Los Angeles" stuff like that. Lyra Jade's brows says that she is from Los Angeles.

I think our own Carl is from the Los Angeles area...(Hint, hint..wink wink)

VCJD has been featured in Mexican Genealogy groups. (I'm not Mexican, but I'm a member)
im in san jose and we def have those groups, so i am sure LA must have some!

With the cases of Jane Does who have given birth I always have to wonder about their children. Where they given up for adoption? Living with their father? Living with mom's family? Etc. Of course, I wonder the same about Lyra Jade's previous kids. She was 18-30 (I'm personally pegging her age in the middle, I'm guessing 23-26; she doesn't look like a teenager to me, JMO), it wouldn't be a shock if she had fallen pregnant as a teen or young adult and had her baby adopted out because she felt it was for the best. I lean towards this. If so, I have to wonder if her child(ren) is out there, wondering what became of their birth mother, running their DNA through 23&Me to try to find relatives...I know forensic genealogy isn't in the same database as 23&Me and similar, it just drives me nuts thinking about the possibilities of her now-adult kids wondering about her, looking for her...Parents, siblings, aunts and uncles, friends, who knows who else?

I just know someone is out there looking for her, wondering what happened...this is one of the cases where I can feel it the most. I just want her loved ones to get answers and for her to finally be able to rest peacefully. The fact that the worthless sack of feces that did this heinous crime is rotting behind bars for the rest of his useless life is giving me some relief. Now all that's left is to BRING HER HOME!!!!

I apologize for the rambling, all. Everyone who knows me knows I'm like this and get very emotional and passionate!

Thank God for DNA Doe Project! I know they will solve this!

They (them being DDP) have got to find out who VCJD’s first child is. That’s almost assuredly going to cause decisive leads.

I feel likely that her parents possibly raised her child.

If she wasn't married, her family was likely helping her raise her child. Maybe they had help of the child's father, maybe they didn't. Even if she was married at one time, she would have likely had custody and her parents would have helped her raised her child. This is the cultural norm in Mexican-American culture. Very few give their child up for adoption.

It could have been a situation where her parents were babysitting for an extended time and she just didn't come back. (It happens. Families will sometimes bend over backwards with babysitting to help their kids "get on their feet")

Based on her eyebrows, (cholas drawn brows) Lyra Jade came from a lower income situation.
Maybe her parents tried to report her missing, but didn't get anywhere.

But, I agree: Someone is out there looking for her

It is more likely that Lyra Jade's parents have passed away. (I'm about the same age as Lyra Jade. I was 24 in 1980. My parents and most of my friend's parents are now gone)

However, she has a child who is looking for their mother. I do not doubt this
She likely has siblings who are looking for her

Good thoughts, Friday Fan!

The idea that her kid(s) may think she abandoned them (like what happened with Harper Doe) makes me sad to consider. If they were raised by her parents or other family members I can see them thinking she just ran off. Very sad stuff either way.

Yep, we always assume that the Jane Does that have seemingly given birth have kept their babies after birth or the children are still alive and MUST be searching for their mother, but tbh there are many scenarios in this particular situation.

I often think in cases where children seem to be involved in a UID's life, that there could be several scenarios where mother and child are separated or estranged: A child can be adopted away (remember Mary Silvani?), in foster care, or raised by others (like other family members or taken care of by friends), just to mention a few. Especially where a high-risk lifestyle like drug use/addiction, prostitution, or mental health issues are involved. Not saying that Lyra Jade was involved in a similar lifestyle/situation, but just in general.

***CW***
Although she might have given birth, we do not know if her child was born alive. Stillbirth exists, unfortunately. SIDS, too. Something could've happened later in life (the child would be way into their forties now), and some die young. Sad, but true.

Don't mean to come on as super pessimistic here, because I do hope her child is alive and well and searching for Lyra Jade (although they haven't connected the dots yet), I'm just saying we can never be certain children are looking for their mothers in cases where the Jane Doe has given birth.

Since we have at least a few folks here in Mexican genealogy Facebook groups, maybe it wouldn't hurt to have English and Spanish versions of a flyer of Lyra Jade to distribute on these forums, with the possible related last names in certain areas. This would just be to get the word out, maybe possibly encouraging people with connections to those last names in those areas to get their DNA run. I figure it's worth a shot since it seems like her case has some rather tricky genealogy and maybe some Mexican genealogists will be interested.

I can put together an English mock-up, but I don't speak Spanish, so it'll just be in English, unless someone would be able to help me translate it into Spanish.

Looks excellent to me. I would get it out there as soon as possible. Have you got any places / groups in mind?
Thank you! I am personally not in any Mexican genealogy groups (or any genealogy groups, for that matter), but if I can get this translated into a Spanish version and locate some Mexican or Central American genealogy groups I think it could help spread the word.

Does facebook have an option to nsfw/spoiler tag photos (which blur it out until the user clicks on it) much like how reddit does? If so, add a second one that includes the post mortem photos. It wouldn't come across as a surprise if those are more recognizable to VCJD's past self than the forensic recons

I know I have seen photos on Facebook every once in a while that have a warning tag on them, but I think that is done by Facebook themselves and not the user, so I don't think I could do it myself if I posted? If I am wrong, somebody please correct me.

This is a flyer that we wrote up in Spanish that Steve Rhods shows to Spanish speaking persons that we contact. This is more focused compared to the list of surnames that we released a couple of years ago. This is more current in terms of the potential surnames.

The flyer translates as follows:

My family was from La Blanca
The year was 1980
Do you recognize me?

I was the victim of a homicide in July of 1980 near los Angeles, California, USA. The man who murdered me is in prison for killing me and another woman.

I was five months pregnant at that time. The father of my unborn child has been located. He is a Honduran whose name is Rene, and during that year, he lived west of Downtown Los Angeles near the corner of 9th Street and Westmoreland Avenue. He is not believed to have anything to do with my murder, and he has no known connection to the killer, but he says he does not remember me, or know who I was.

The genealogical investigation based on my DNA, performed by a non-profit organization called DNA Doe Project, has revealed that my family has very strong connections with La Blanca, Bajio de la Tesorera, Zacatecas.

I might have close family members with the surnames Parga, Chavez, Aleman, Anaya (or Amaya), Lira, Ramos, Navarro, or Ortiz.

If you believe you might know my identity, please contact Steve Rhods of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

I sent this poster to a Facebook page dedicated to the town of La Blanca, Zacatecas. I hope the person running it sees this.
