"March 1, 2021 -- A plastic surgeon in California called into a virtual court hearing via video while performing surgery last week, ...Insider.
S---- G----, MD, dialed in from an operating room to attend his own trial for a traffic violation. Since the proceedings are open to the public, the video footage from Zoom was livestreamed and posted to YouTube...
The video shows Green wearing scrubs, a
face mask, gloves and a surgical cap in the operating room, with another doctor nearby and machines beeping in the background...
G---- acknowledged that he was in an operating room, but available. He also said he understood that the video would be posted online..." [to court clerk].
"G---- confirmed that he was operating on a patient...[to judge]
"G---- said another surgeon was in the room who could take over as the trial progressed..."* bbm

:DWell, it was just traffic court. If it had been medical malpractice or a wrongful death case, he mighta paid more attention? Might have engaged atty to rep him?/sarc j/k
:DA board certified physician by virtue of holding current title "World Champion of Operation" a family fun favorite from Hasbro? After all, Operation is a board game./sarc j/k

Did newspaper reporter bungle it all up, get it all wrong? I wonder if proceedings are recorded by ct reporter or by elec/digital means.

From Post 1, link to Mar 1 story.

"March 4, 2021 -- A Sacramento plastic surgeon under fire for attending a virtual court hearing while in the operating room is telling his side of the story, saying the incident has been blown out of proportion and that his patient was never at risk....
"...says he's been
inaccurately portrayed in the media as an irresponsible physician who joined the virtual call as he was operating on a patient...and Green's involvement was over..." bbm rbm

Any Lesson Here?
Personally I'm not concluding anything about the medical propriety of Dr. G's actions or his patient's safety.*

But this situation may be a lesson for everyone about potential risks from -
- talking to reporters.
- bumbling about in legal proceedings without legal representation, even traffic ct.

(Did not intend to bash the doctor. That's why I redacted Dr.'s full name, just used G. )

I actually do not have an issue with him doing zoom and operating. Operating is shown live for students to watch...even some tv shows.. commentary included. As long as someone cooking at mcd's or cleaning house can.

Patient Authorization?

@nao sbm Good point. Yes, sometimes patients authorize but we do not know the actual wording of the patient-signed release/waiver. Might have authorized recording and/or streaming and/or Tv show use, and/or for the dr's own pt records, and/or educational purposes, and/or promotional purposes for dr's practice, etc.
For entertainment use on soc media, doubtful. Does not seem it was for med student edu or peer cont. edu. This streaming does not really fit any of these categories imo, if pt was shown on camera. I have not seen the vid but hope that did not happen.

The articles do not reflect well on the doctor, and imo seems he used poor judgment in his words & actions but atm I'm not taking either side of the story as 100% accurate. my2ct.

yeah...his license should be pulled. He wasn't doing a teaching video about the procedure he was doing which would have kept him focused on his craft. He was, in essence, grandstanding in an inappropriate way, one that did offer more risk to his patient than the usual surgical ones that you sign a consent form acknowledging. He betrayed his patient's trust. It wasn't necessary. If he thinks that this is alright what else might he do that doesn't get filmed or reported. His license should be pulled. My opinion and I was in the medical field more than 30 years. We do owe more to those in our trust.
