He only served 6 years for killing that other baby and he choked and beat another woman and threatened her son.
:banghead:

I hope the judge who gave him those measley six years has seen this. If not, we need to sent him/her a link. This country is going to hell in a handbasket when it comes to protecting our babies, we need to stand in front of the capital or something and protest...this is just too much to bear anymore.

from what I've read, she didn't know about his past. :(

Such a sad situation through and through. He shouldn't have been out and around to do this in the first place, and women need to be more careful about who they let into the family - even if she didn't know his past, she should have kept him out for that reason alone. Please, do not mistake me as saying she got what she deserved or anything like that - I am just constantly saddened by these situations. Single moms and their kids are like sitting ducks these days; some solution has to be found, as single parents are not going away any time soon.

It's amazing how many lives one useless person can destroy! This story just makes me sad.

This man should have never been out to even meet another woman. WTH!

This is why I am pro death penalty. People like this getting light sentences, getting out early, and so on. Always some excuse or whoops....well to hell with that.

It sounds like she left the baby in his "care" because she wanted to go out for Halloween? that is one relative's version of events.

If I were picking out babysitters, it sure would not be him--he just looks mean and rough. If he was in prison for killing a child, I wonder how he got out of prison alive, considering that child abusers/murderers are at the bottom rung status-wise in prison.

February 4, 2011

An Oakland man was ordered today to stand trial on charges that he murdered a 17-month-old boy and then killed the boy’s mother, who was his girlfriend, in an attempt to cover up the original crime.Alameda County Superior Court Judge Joan Cartwright ruled that prosecutors provided sufficient evidence at a four-day preliminary hearing to establish that there is probable cause that the charges against Curtis Martin, 39, are true.

Martin is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 18 to be arraigned and to have a trial date set on two counts of murder and two special circumstance clauses alleging that he killed a witness and committed multiple murders. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office will decide before then whether to seek the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole.

This makes my stomach turn! He's killed THREE people!!! But, he's in California so he will never face death. Even if he's given the death penalty, he will sit there sucking off of the government for the rest of his pitiful life. No wonder California is going under...they have so many people on death row and continue to cater to them instead of just putting their sorry butts to death.

I'm sorry...I am a strong pro-death penalty person and for reasons such as this!

In California, the death penalty is largely symbolic. The time for the average inmate sentenced to death to exhaust his appeals is from 25 to 40 years.
There are some men on Death Row who were sentenced in 1979, and they are not close at all to an execution date. The notorious serial killer Richard Ramirez is going on 22 years now of appeals, with no end in sight. It's estimated that he's only about half-way through the process, so we're looking at another 25 years or so before the sentence is carried out. He could be dead of old age by then. It's simply incredible how this has been allowed to happen. The will of the people of California doesn't matter anymore.

Very sad, this type of story is common around here. Note the family of the first dead baby is very angry with the judicial system. They apparently knew he was abusing and burning the first infant with cigarettes and were "looking into it and discussing it" and then were taken by surprise when he killed the baby.

These guys don't typically act like gentle, normal people and then one day start beating babies to death. I worked with a woman in a very similar situation, one day she casually told me her ex-boyfriend beat her 5 year old daughter to death years earlier and she too was very angry that the judge only gave him 15 years.

I asked her how is it possible you lived with this man and never saw a sign? She said she never had a clue, she was so shocked when it happened. Being the cynical one I pushed and said you mean he never ever acted violent before? She thought about it and said "well one time he went into a rage and nearly choked me to death when a co-worker called the house, but that was the only time". After violently attacking her she continued to leave him alone with her daughter all day while she worked, he wasn't working she was supporting him (he was also apparently addicted to drugs and she was unaware of that fact too).

From December 2012:

http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2012/12/14/killer-of-oakland-mom-toddler-to-die-in-state-prison/

An Oakland man who killed three people, including two young boys, received his day of judgment when he was sentenced Friday to six consecutive terms of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Alameda County Superior Court Judge Vernon Nakahara said Curtis Martin III, 41, “will die in state prison and not be released in the future.”

Nakahara sentenced Martin for murdering 17-month-old Jashon Williams and the boy’s mother, 23-year-old Zoelina Toney, in the fall of 2009.

On July 19, during jury selection for his trial, Martin pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for killing Jashon and to first-degree murder for killing Toney. In addition, Martin pleaded guilty to three special-circumstance murder allegations: murdering Toney because she was a witness to the murder of her son, lying in wait, and committing multiple murders... Martin had previously been charged with murder for the Feb. 11, 1994, death of 3-year-old Devin Brewer, who was the son of his girlfriend.
