Canada - 10 dead and at least 15 wounded in stabbing attacks in Saskatchewan, 2022

.
"The biggest challenge for police now may be that the killers appeared to have been well-organised, suggesting they also had an escape plan in mind, Davies said."

Just to add, this is speculation by Darryl Davies - a criminology professor at Ottawa’s Carleton University who grew up in Saskatchewan.

(The article may be paywalled for some, but it is a Reuters article, so it will be out there in unpaywalled form as well.)

It just occurred to me what if the person with Myles is not a hostage but a sympathizer, since Myles seemed injured where he was having trouble walking or "wobbly" as the original post stated and he said that his face was injured. Could it be that this possible sympathizer has some medical knowledge or training. Wih the type of injury I am assuming Myles has it would take more than basic first aid to do anything to help him. A paramedic, firefighter, an outreach nurse? It has to be someone who knows emergency management. I'm pretty sure his injuries require emergency medical attention. If it is someone in one of these professions it just adds another layer of depravity to this horror. TURN HIM IN, NOW!!!! Just think about this its been hours since his sighting in Regina. SOOOO??? Something is not adding up here.

o/t - and now this is happening in Sask:

Spiritwood RCMP are searching for two armed suspects after reports of shots fired on Witchekan Lake First Nation in Saskatchewan on Monday.
70c8fc80

Officers issued a dangerous persons alert for Kelly Witchekan and Melvin Starblanket, who are still believed to be in the Witchekan area where the investigation is now focused.

No injuries have been reported in connection to the shots fired.

Of course this statement was likely made before we all knew that Damien was killed at James Smith Cree Nation and never even left there. Perhaps the plans were more 'in flux'. Maybe Myles thought he could rely on Damien as a 'partner' and it turned out Damien didn't have the stomach for it or didn't expect things to be so violent. Or maybe Myles was just using Damien and had 'plans' to dump him if needed.

I've been looking for the motive for these to men stabbing so many people. The news reports I have seen don't even mention the word "motive". Does anyone know why these men are killing so many people?

LE was asked that question and they said that they do not know the motive yet, even though they are trying to find it out.

John Wayne Sanderson was recently charged, could be a link.

Also, JMO I think someone got to Damien before the police and didnt report it because they dont want to be charged. May have injured Myles but he got away. JMO JMO

continuing with the media's questions at the presser:

- Q: can you tell us how many victims were targeted and how many were random? A: No. They can't provide a breakdown at this time.
- Q: are there aerial searches going on? A: Yes. We have multiple aerial services supporting us here in the province and in the areas designated as required by the investigative teams.
- Q: and still no word on the exact weapon used? A: No.
- Q: can you provide any specific information on the people who lost their lives (e.g ages, gender, etc.) A: The only thing we know is that there were no children or infants attacked that we are aware of. The ages cover a wide span above that. Both males and females were victims of the attack. [interesting that this question came from Australian Broadcasting Corp...do they have reporters anywhere near SK? It's in the middle of Canada...not close to any MAJOR cities or tourist sights.] Q: we heard a report that there was a 14 yo victim. A: I believe that the youngest victim was born in 1999.
Q: do you have any updated photos of Myles? There have been a few photos out there on social media. A: The investigative team is working on that now to find out if there is a better photo that better reflects what he looks like right now, keeping in mind that he might have injuries as well. [my random thought here....did Myles possibly incur his injuries during a fight with Damien?]

I'll continue in another post as I still have more video to watch. The video is located here:
Sask stabbing suspect found dead, other suspect still at large: RCMP
You might have to look for the media questions video once you get there.

Interesting thought! I presumed a fallout between Myles and Damien, but your idea is also a possibility.

Unless I am missing something, I don't understand why John Wayne Sanderson's arrest is being linked as relevant or recent in relation to the stabbings. The news article clearly states he was arrested in late July, well over a month ago.

JMO. I wonder if Damien died of gunshot wounds, perhaps shot as he was running away. The police knew the wounds were not self-inflicted without having to wait for forensic findings, so the cause of death was likely something obvious. JMO.

I donno. They were brothers, so I think it's more likely that one of the locals killed Damien, especially if there was a drug related turf war as the band chief alluded to.

Possible that it is Alicia Bridges. Digital reporter for our ABC, who has been based in Saskatoon since May 2016 (according to her LinkedIn profile).

Looks like she is an Aussie who relocated to Canada in 2013.

I am the world's worst and slowest transcriber. <sigh> Please bear with me.

Media questions at presser continued:

- Q: you are all here on a holiday. How big a deal is this from a law enforcement standpoint? A: This is a significant event for the province of Saskatchewan. We have a significant number of deceased individuals and it is of the highest priority. We are working to capture Myles and to ensure the families get the information that they need.
- Q: were they brothers or cousins? A: we have been able to confirm that they are brothers.
- Q: Yesterday you weren't willing to discuss their criminal records. Myles was unlawfully at large since May. Why wasn't that communicated earlier? A: We have been gathering information about criminal records. Myles does have and extensive criminal record. The information that was important for us to get out yesterday was that he was a dangerous and violent offender. Having committed first degree murder is indicative of that, obviously. He was definitely known to police.
Q: are you able to describe Damien's wounds? A: I am not able to speak to that at this time.
Q: can you confirm that all victims, other than Damien, were stab victims? A: we believe that the victims were stabbed, but that is being confirmed at this time, to make sure that that is true, but that is our belief at this time.

I'm only 2/3 to 3/4 through the video at this point. Hopefully I'll post a bit more.

Here is the link to the general page, but look for the media questions video specifically.

ETA: there wasn't anything of particular note in the last part of the video so I won't be posting anything more on this.

He was found with numerous injuries and facial injuries as well as being shot. I cannot find the link anymore, things are going so fast. Delete if you need. I suspect they beat the carp outta him and then shot him. IMO

Forgive me if this has been discussed before. Got behind & gave up on catching up.
DS was found on James Smith Cree Nation. RCMP keep stating his injuries do not appear to be self-inflicted. IMO that is the way LE & medical people describe gun shot wounds.
The Nissan Rogue was stolen from a residence on James Smith Nation. A woman interviewed stated it was her brother's SUV & the suspects kicked down her sister's door but the sister fortunately was not home.
Then a woman in Weldon states this same vehicle sped past her (or her daughter's) home early & then a man approached asking for help stating his covered face was injured. This same woman is interviewed regarding her 77 yo neighbor who was murdered.
Residents in the village of Weldon in Saskatchewan identified one of the victims in the community as Wes Petterson, a 77-year-old widower.

"He was just a lovely man," said Doreen Lees, 89, of Weldon.

IMO there were 3 people committing these crimes & somehow DS was killed at the onset or shortly after the rampage began.
Now there seems to be 2 at large in Regina.

Dear @Snoopster,

You are so kind to take the time to transcribe all of this for us. Greatly appreciated!:)

This makes such a tremendous difference to not have to go back and forth through the video.

Excellent transcribing by the way!
