Found Deceased Canada - Alison Raspa, 25, Whistler, 22 Nov 2017

It does look more like hypothermia knowing that she was lost. She must have become delirious at some point. I have to wonder why she sent a text to a friend to say was lost, but did not ask for help, call a cab, or contact emergency services.

Alternatively, someone else could have used the phone to send the text - that too has happened before. First one to come to mind is Hannah Graham. A strange text was sent from her phone at the time that she was abducted and murdered.

Hannah Graham was an urban area of buildings, streets, and bars, with people around. Yes, she was lost but she was not isolated. Where Alison took the bus or caught a ride was very remote, on the edge of the wilderness, not a place a possible predator would be lying in wait in the middle of the night in freezing temperatures. There are wolves up there (British Columbia is home to about 8500 grey wolves), not to mention cougar and black bear, not a place you want to hang around in the dark waiting for a young woman to prey upon. Hypothermia is much more likely.

Alison texts her friends 90 minutes after she left the bar to say SHE IS LOST.........................................................................................

Did anyone try to help find her at that point???? or PUT A REAL CALL OUT FOR HELP --- maybe 911 and/or Whistler SAR????

IF SHE WAS LOST.....SHE IS OUT THERE SOMEWHERE....why has LE just stopped looking for her so soon????

IF she is expired, it would seem she couldn't have gotten very far IMHO.

:cow:

:moo:

Where are you Alison???

:candle:

(eta: are they assuming she is in the already searched lake???)

Yes why didn't someone call 911 ( do they have that there?) or some rescuers immediately to find her! Especially with the low temperatures. I don't get it!

Simplest answer to me is, she'd taken drugs at the bar, so went wandering off without knowing or caring where she was going. That, plus hypothermia making her even more confused. Best she could do, as her situation became dire, was send a text to friends she probably texted dozens of times per day, but they were asleep and didn't get the text or didn't take it seriously until she failed to show up for work.

Edited to add: if she just texted "Im lost" most young people in a ski town would think it was a joke, or she wasn't sure who's house she was in, and not take it literally. Nobody would go out to a lake alone at 1 am in November. But also very likely her friends were asleep.

I assumed she texted someone back at the bar so they would still be up. Since she had been there since May, and knew her way around, I'm thinking she was drinking and that's why she got disorientated. MOO

Also, to answer your question, it is 911 in Canada. However, in Australia it is 000, so maybe she was trying that instead of 911. Most workplaces train their staff to know about 911, but she may have forgotten.

Many people are shocked by the suggestion of drugs, but for many young people in the social scene, party drugs like ecstasy are very normal, and often preferred over alcohol which makes you feel physically ill.

I'm as baffled as anyone that a thorough search by the RCMP did not find Alison.
Hypothermia can have a strange effect, making someone feel extremely hot to the degree that they will shed clothing, Also, alcohol makes a person more susceptible to hypothermia because it expands the blood vessels and that brings on a sensation of heat. I don't know if she had had a drink or not.

Very sorry for her family.

Could also be as simple as her being a city girl. Being one I know city folks can underestimate nature. I know I did at times. Some dangers that seem 'normal' to people who are used to being around/in nature wouldn't have even occurred to me. There's no actual wilderness around where I'm from, and help is always somewhat near. Calling for help may also not have occurred to her. I could see trying to figure it out myself, first. The cold may have gotten to her before she really realized she was in trouble...

I can see that, being she grew up and lived in Australia. I didn't even know much about hypothermia until this thread.

"Alison Raspa, pictured in one of her last Facebook posts, had just extended her working visa for another six months. Picture: Facebook"

Does that look like WATER behind her????? IF SO, WHEN did she post this last picture????

Reminds me of this earlier news story dated November 23, 2017 https://globalnews.ca/news/3877993/whistler-flooding/

Still not understanding why her personal items (excluding her phone) were found by the intersection of hwy #99 & lake placid road.....

Also (at the link) i see the pic of 3 below bar --- it seems it is at the same location as the movie theatre....had she been to a movie earlier in the evening??? IF so, had she gone alone???

Where are you Alison???
