I believe tomorrow is the Superheroes are Real, walk for Nathan. I was looking at the collage and photo of Nathan on his Dads FB page.... Nathan radiates so much energy in his photo's, he is such a beautiful boy. As long as his parents have hope, so will I.

Now I'm confused. Was there a fundraiser today, or a memorial? Was there a walk, or a service?

"On Thursday morning, mourners gathered at a southwest Calgary church, dressed in Spiderman T-shirts and costumes in honour of the boy his parents fondly remember as ‘their superhero.’ ... O’Brien was remembered as an active boy who loved life, enjoying every day to the fullest. His parents Jen and Rod O’Brien bravely gave an emotional tribute to their young son, and several songs were performed in the boy’s honour.

A separate memorial for the Liknes’ will be held in the coming weeks."

Sorry for asking.. but does it really only take a couple of months for a body to skeletonize?

There's a formula where number of days and average temp can be entered to give a fairly exact number of day before there is complete decomposition. I'll see if I can find it again ... unless someone has it handy.

This is OT, I hope nobody minds and I hope it is allowed.. but.. here in Ontario.. there was a double murder a number of years ago in the Hamilton area, (I think in 1998), where a man and his adult daughter went missing presumably from their home - the bodies were gone.. but I think there was evidence at their home that they had been murdered.. will have to do some reading to get refreshed.. but.. something like 5 months later, they found the bodies in the dead man's truck bed which was parked at the Toronto airport (which would have been about an hour away from the home). It took until, I believe, 2010 for the man's son (the daughter's brother) to be arrested for the murders, although it was obvious from MSM that police suspected him long before that. In I believe 2012, the accused finally had a preliminary hearing, at which time it was determined there was enough evidence to proceed to trial, and all I could find on it, was that the trial date would come later, but that it was expected to begin in January 2013 and would take 2-3 months. I have been waiting and waiting to hear when the trial would start.. I finally emailed one of the news reporters, and was told the trial is scheduled to start in a few days from now, on September 22nd in Hamilton. I couldn't find anything on WS about this case. I just thought some one might know about this and possibly want to follow it. The deceased man's name was William Staples, and his daughter was named Rhonda Borelli I believe, and the accused's name is Mark Staples. Is this something that can have a thread here on WS, or is it a moot point since the missing were discovered and a suspect has been officially accused and about to start trial? Thanks for listening!

PS It is also interesting that this O/L case is kind of similar in that the bodies were removed.. and found in the man's own truck parked at a highly visible international public parking lot for FIVE months before being discovered. The accused is an immediate family member, and had an obvious motive (the man's father had lots of money that the accused would, and did, inherit).

Thanks Otto.. I guess that also depends on where the bodies are located, whether they are buried or out in the open air. I recall looking up info recently regarding this particular case, on 'decomposition', but.. I didn't really relate that to full skeleton.. so not sure.

Perhaps someone that likes numbers wants to give it a shot.

"In our studies we have worked out a simple formula, which describes the soft tissue decomposition process for persons lying on the ground. The formula is y=1285/x (where y is the number of days it takes to become skeletonized or mummified and x is the average temperature in Centigrade during the decomposition process)."

Well *I* suck at math, but does this change if the body is dismembered?

I understand the reasoning behind LE and MSM not wanting to report on suicides.. but.. in this case on Saturday where an unidentified, presumably male body of unknown age was found dead in Fish Creek Park/Bow River, and considering that I haven't read any reports of still-missing males lately in the area, and considering this Liknes case continues to have 3 missing bodies... you would think that the least LE/MSM could do is to report that the body has been ID'd, no foul play suspected, etc., just so that people like me, and perhaps you, aren't left wondering, you know?????????? PMO!

If we guess that the average temperature has been 22(??? no idea), then 1285/22=58.4 days? Does anyone know the average temps in the area for July and August?

Not that I have heard. If it was one if the victims from this case, they would have the area closed off in search if the other two. It would be making bigger headlines and someone in the media would have tipped that they are investigating this possibility.

y=1285/15.9
y=81 days=no. days to complete skeletal remains

July - 31 days
August - 31 days
Sept - 4

Total so far - 66 days
19 days to go

Yes, I understand that.. but.. I feel the LEAST they could do is just make SOME kind of statement like.. body identified, no foul play suspected.. don't even have to say WHAT or WHO or WHY.. but just SOMEthing, at least right NOW while people are hoping for these 3 bodies to show up.

Wow, average temps have been that low there over that time frame? Seems awfully COLD!

August - 31 days

It sounds interesting, like it was quite a mystery, so it would be interesting so learn what really happened. I think you could start a thread in the trials section ... http://www.websleuths.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?8-Trials

The formula is of people that are exposed to the elements in a secluded location, which is where most bodies/remains are found.

I don't think so. It's based on the decomposition of tissue as it relates to exposure and temperature.

Initial reports were that no foul play was suspected.
