Would DG be allowed visitors at this point in time? I wonder if his parents or sister can have a positive impact on him?

I'm curious about visitors and the family dynamic too, did they got along? Were they estranged? Did DG adore his mother/parents or resent them?

Thanks Cherchri, I wondered about the CCTV and it's effect in court. I assumed he could see everyone as if he was there in person, but like you said, makes one wonder if he *really* see the people looking back at him or looking him in the eye. So maybe not worth the families to go.
I just remember on his first appearance he said "bad eyesight". He has new specs so he will certainly be able to discern who is there but I doubt he would be able to make eye contact per SE. I know I wasn't able to make eye contact with him or discern any changes in his facial expressions.

The "bad eyesight" has always bugged me. I was thinking of that comment the other day and thought of that diver dude and the kijiji ad. I wonder if DG lost or broke his glasses in those few days leading to his arrest.

I will just say this now as I have been holding back... I wonder if DG is the biological son of DG and AG.

I stated weeks ago that I felt sure his mother would be able to get him talking. I was shouted down but I still feel that she would.

So funny you should say that - also wondered.

I would think that would depend if he is still on suicide watch. It is my understanding that they cannot have visitors during such an order.

I don't want to get burned at the stake or torched by other sleuthers for saying this - but if DG is playing/manipulating the system (I'm sure he learned a thing or two in prison in the 90s from the other inmates) by getting himself on a suicide watch, that is actually quite convenient for him not to face his family in a visitation.

And while on SW, it keeps him segregated from the crowds and other loud inmates.

I (finally) found this very detailed info on suicide watch:

Thank you for stepping in and saying that in your very eloquent, matter-of-fact way Stan! My sentiments exactly! :takeabow:
(I could see you as having that Sam Elliott, lazy drawl). :)

I'm a calgarian, so it's a nasally raspy voice due to the dust,, I pick my nose in public, everybody does here, it's very dry,, some women wave godbye in that "toodles see ya later" kinda way but with their index finger planted firmly in their nostril one knuckle deep. edmontonians I find talk as if syllables are sentences in monotone grunts, so one is never sure when an actual sentence starts or ends or what they are inflecting, and if they could take their hands out of their pockets at least we could get some type of charade to help.

You and Cherchri both are curious about this, do you guys think he's adopted or he's biological and the sisters adopted or…. I'm so curious now! Do you think this has any bearing on things? A different type of relationship maybe? Pray tell!

I call dibbs on Sam's voice in everyone's head if Stan doesn't want it... so dreamy...

You what???!!! OMG! Lmao! :floorlaugh: Oh goodness Stan! Well, I have to admit that I've often wondered why people get in their cars and pick their probiscuses....usually in rush hour traffic so you have no choice but to watch...yechhh...do they seriously think no one can see them? Another thing that is very popular up in Edmonton is the old "snot rocket", pardon the expression...makes me just about puke...yup, it does it every single time. I've also seen the hands in the pocket thing...they're all jiggling their change (I think), reminding themselves how rich they are.

So, there you sit, at your favorite parking spot before work in the morning, with your coffee and your smoke around a couple of horses....picking your nose...I DOUBT IT!!! lol

And, if it's true...at least I'll know who you are when I come down to Calgary next...no handshake required. lol

Why would legal aid provide money for a private investigator? That's not part of a normal defence.

Back in the day, I was an administrator for an Ontario Legal Aid district office. IIRC, X amount was allotted for fees and X amount for disbursements. The total amount authorized was dependent on the nature of the charge (i.e. murder defences had a lot more more $$ thrown at them). Although disbursements would be itemized for submission, it was up to the lawyer to decide what was required in defence of the client.

I only brought this particular case up because it appears that in Canada, even those without money to pay a lawyer, are entitled to get full legal representation, no matter what resources the case requires, no matter the cost, no matter the heinous crime.
And you know, police are only human, and as much as I appreciate them, they do make mistakes, and sometimes we don't know about their mistakes until years later.

Unfortunately, that case was a bit of a mess because police did not properly interpret the evidence.

I don't think there is a way to confirm anything without a family member speaking directly to it. Like every individual upbringing, there are challenges and major life events that define one's person. I can only speculate what challenges adoption brings...

OMG! Too funny! We have Lois as Elsbeth and you as Sam... I don't even want to think of what voice everyone hears for me. As long as it's NOT Nancy Grace, I'm good. [emoji13]

I will try to approach this as delicately as I possibly can. Give me some time.

I poked around a bit a little earlier, and found that Ontario allows disbursements for P.I.s. I would assume it's the same in all provinces. I suppose not to would raise the argument that a defendant was not afforded a fair trial.
