I wonder who P2 did business with. The young people that I saw on DG's friends list that I thought were so odd were from San Diego...it's West Coast Maybe they were drug connections? His whole friends list was a strange collection I thought.

Funny you say that, I know someone who's 18/19 year old kid was making tons of trips to San Diego (young person, just graduated, enjoying the beach life, probably met a crush there, kept going back, etc.) Anyways, the amount of trips triggered some alarms and the child was held at customs for some major, long interrogation and questioning because of suspicions of being a drug mule. Border services had to make sure that wasn't the case of cross border drug transporting. The mother and child were terrified nonetheless did it ever scare them! So, when you mentioned San Diego, it set off a light bulb.

In environmental circles, P2 is a buzz term for "pollution prevention"

Also, in the link LoisLane put up, P2P is also a meth reference.

Not that it may be important but weeks back I was trying to find the statement where DG is referred to as "genius". I thought it was from a court ruling. I found this article where the police refer to DG as "genius".

"Described by police as a genius, Mr. Garland studied science at the University of Alberta, where he planned to become a doctor. But he left school without finishing a degree, then vanished shortly after the raid on his parents' acreage."

IMO, one doesn't lead a dishonorable life - petty crime, drug manufacturing... etc., reform and lead a quiet existence of FB games and farming, only to suddenly commit a violent mass murder that includes a young child.

He was doing *something* which may very well include other violent crimes.

I would have to agree with you there....one doesn't lead a 'troubled' life (define dishonorable...who hasn't made mistakes and perhaps taken a wrong turn on their path?)....reform (after being an exemplary prisoner that was released early..then lead a quiet life of FB games, family and farming...then suddenly commit a violent mass murder. You do have a point there indeed.

If he wasn't on PG's FB then the removal of her account would not have removed his.
The removal of her account did not affect his. PG removed hers the night of Monday, July 7th, no one said DG's was removed at the same time, at least I didn't. His was there until not too long ago...it was still there after his arrest. It has just been in the past three or four weeks that its gone missing. I was looking for it again about three to four weeks ago and it had disappeared. Maybe The defense lawyer took it down...maybe its somehow part of the evidence? Don't know.

As for DG working on the parents acreage/farm...

I am not aware of the exact ages of DG's parents. I think they are in their 70's. In the photo of Doreen Garland at the public meeting about the racetrack she does not look to be in her 80's. The land appears to be well kept and I assume the father Archie Garland takes very good care of his property most of the time. If AG is in his 70's or 80's and in good health he is perfectly capable of managing that property/acreage. They could also lease the land to someone who makes use of the crops and that person may also take care of that part of it.

Another reason I don't believe DG was the primary caretaker of the acreage is that the neighbours who called him a loner and never knew much else of him never said that he was always riding a tractor or working in the fields. The only thing I recall was that he would stare straight ahead as he drove past them on the road, not even a friendly wave. Maybe he had work in Galahad?
Oh, I would wager a bet that Daddy Garland did not do all that work himself....any idea how much work that is? It has been reported several times that DG's parents are in their 80's...and I don't care how good of shape you're in at 80 plus...there's no way DG wasn't helping on that farm. You can see the neatness and great condition the farm is in...its also reflected in DG's old truck, and the way he has kept himself. Clothes clean and neat, clean-shaven and we'll kept hair. Nah...DG at the very least worked alongside his dad. IMO.

As far as driving through town and looking straight ahead...that does not indicate arrogance, superiority or anti-social behavior only; it can also indicate low-self esteem, perhaps embarrassment or shame for past crime involvement and/or lack of social skills. You know how the saying goes..."one man's garbage is another man's treasure"...basically means it's all in how you look at it and perceive it.

There's a couple other sayings..."never judge a man until you walk a mile in his shoes", and "give credit where credit is due'. IMO, DG did the majority of the work on that farm, and probably reached things down from the high shelves for his mom, or carried heavy things for her. Really, how do we know he didn't give his mom or dad a foot or back massage? We know nothing about his personal family life.

No matter what heinous crime DG may have committed, we do not have the right to strip all the good he may have done as a son, brother, uncle or cousin from him. No right at all. JMO

Excellent find! (or.. 're-find')!

In addition to the "genius" reference by LE, the judge made reference to DG's intelligence in the Garland v. MNR case:

[2] Mr. Garland is in his mid-forties. He suffers from attention deficient disorder (ADD). It
was clear that he was agitated throughout the trial, but it was also apparent that he was an
intelligent individual

You are right, we don't know anything about his personal life. I don't think my comments about DG's involvement on his parents acreage are any more stripping than yours, that he follows his mom around to reach things high on a shelf.

My father-in-law is 80 this year. He still goes to work every morning by 5am, he drives machinery, after work he will go home and work in his greenhouse and most likely make some sort of special food, he is in bed by 9pm and starts all over the next day. He is in pretty good health for an 80 year old and does all that work because he loves it, not even for the money. He has a circle of friends, the ones that are still alive and in relatively good health, do the same thing. Many of us kids help out whether it is cooking or at his company but he is completely capable of doing it on his own.

DG most likely helps his parents at the acreage/farm but I doubt that is his primary role, I believe that role belongs to his parents.

Somehow it doesn't make sense to me that an illicit drug operation would go to the lengths to incorporate a company name, import goods internationally, advertise, etc., JMOO

He would have to appear as a legitimate business in order to import/export chemicals. Many illegal businesses have a legitimate and legal looking business front.

Not super important, but it seems CL's wife SL was office manager at Winter Petroleum until June 2014 according to her Linkedin page, so she would've been one of the lay offs. I didn't realize family (well in-law, but still family) was working at Winter. Again, nothing really important but thought I'd share as I don't think this was posted yet.

My only reasoning for this avenue is, higher ups in the drug trade make a lot of illegal money. These people also buy houses, drive cars, spend a lot or invest (in properties or who knows what) so the Government of Canada/the tax man goes okay - you have all these things, where's your income coming from? These shell companies would merely be created for tax and income purposes for 'false income'.

Many drug folks do it, they'll own a tiny, hole in the wall laundromat (hypothetical of course) as 'their income' on paper for taxes, but they're mega drug dealers, there's lots in Vancouver. Also, there's a ton of drug money laundering that's done through real estate. Drug people have been known to hide the cash they make this way and bribe realtors to 'create' legit purchases done with drug money. So, to me i could some of this happening in relation to DG and this case IMO.

Perhaps not. That is one of the reasons I am trying to determine what other uses the chemicals might have. The zinc phosphate is obvious - it's a rodenticide and commonly used on farms for pest control. I am not sure as yet what other uses it might have. I believe it can be used for etching metals and cleaning rust off machinery.

Yes indeed. I did point this out at the time we learned about the layoffs in the last week of June. What I didn't know until much later is that there are 2 CL's. CL jr is married to SL. CL sr is the one who went to Parkhill when the police were there.

I beg to differ...I have not stripped DG's character whatsoever, not one little iota...there's no reason to and generally that's not my way of any person, no matter what they've done.
My whole premise in life is that ALL people be treated with dignity and respect, and I've never made that a secret. I absolutely will not paint DG as a 'drug lord', murdering, pathetic human being publicly or otherwise, just because that is the opinion of the masses...I know nothing for sure about who he is or what he's done and will reserve judgement (if I even make one then...I am more likely to be compassionate for the futility of a life) about him once the trial is over.

I never said he followed his mom around to reach things down....I'm assuming she likely asked as many mothers do of their sons/daughters....or he simply offered. That's wonderful that your father-in-law is doing so well, my grandfather was the same, as was my grandmother. :) Does your father-in-law have a grown son at home that could help? If not, then I would assume there is little choice but to do it on his own, as was my grandparents. If my grandparent's had a son at home capable and willing to do the work, you can bet that it would've been my grandfather helping my uncle and not the other way around. But, one never knows arrangements in families. You are also assuming that DG's parents are in good health, we don't know that as we don't know anything whatsoever about them other than they go to church, and perhaps camp.

His primary role may have been the farm, or it may have been another line of work. We have no idea and there's nothing to prove it one way or the other. Again, I'm sure this will come out in the trial.

If there was any evidence of illegal drug manufacturing at the Airdrie acreage, wouldn't police have charged the accused with drug manufacturing rather than identity theft?
