You're splitting hairs over semantics. I think you are demonstrating the Websleuths version of phenomenon known as "the CSI effect". To expect LE to have what you call "concrete evidence" in hand in such a short timeframe is the kind of unrealistic expectation spawned by tv drama.

IMHO

Remember this?

"I'm not prepared to hang a man" - anyone here who is ready to hang this man, put up your hand!! :seeya:

(Undeserved judgment and unfair appeal to emotion, IMO)

I would disagree with your last sentence here. I'm pretty sure you have no factual evidence to support your assertion that they had nothing concrete. I personally believe they were waiting for results of lab testing, and that they may have had a strong hunch as to the evidence those tests would yield.

IMHO

Some would speculate I was coming to the defence of someone having their hairs split, by splitting the splitter's hair back. Those same would hope that the hair splitter would feel what it felt like, and perhaps refrain from doing so in the future, without the need to have it spelled out.

No dealings with DG, but what about MH?

We should keep in mind there might a another, newer alias other than the MH one. Although it seems DG is attached to that after supposedly re-using it recently I think it was published. But there still might be another undiscovered alias he's used. Just a thought...

Some might call this 'compassion'[emoji4]

I was going over all the possible uses for a false identity, like employee, investor, owner, customer, bank accounts, travel, and purchases... among other things. It sure will be interesting to see why the Crown expects to present the identity evidence at any murder trial.

Oh yes, I agree! I just found the original quote sounded like it could mean a few different things, the wording the person was quoted as saying sounding a little wonky, so hard to interpret I thought. Very good points though, lots of ways an identity can be used if you think about it.

I have no idea what you're trying to say.

I've pondered that one as well... but assuming an identity isn't as easy as it used to be. If the MH SIN wasn't purged or flagged, re-assuming that identity might not have been difficult at all. It may be less about attachment, and more about convenience and ease.

I'm more curious about the credit card, if it was a credit card. What would he have put on the credit card application? Employment history? Were any references checked?

The victims, specifically the parents of Nathan, are both oil and gas employees. The grandfather, a victim, was an oil and gas employee.

Could you please provide a link to support the claim that the Calgary oil and gas industry is rife with illegal drug abuse.

I partially agree otto - but must add I partially agree with Tinkerbel1 also. True, it's not fair to paint a whole industry with one brush, however bad stuff happens in every industry (doctors with illegal prescriptions, real estate agents and money laundering, accountants rigging books, etc.). There will always be those that take advantage, enable and profit off other people's bad habits.

I think drugs become a bigger problem (but more profitable to the higher ups) even more in remote places where a bunch of young guys have money to burn and not a lot to do. And drugs isn't always a problem with the working class guys, there's CEOs and suit guys running the stocks that aren't all good guys either who also have money to burn and who acquire insatiable appetites and have no limits with that much money.

Then there's the honest, hard working folks who raise their families, mind their own business, are level headed and grounded people who keep their noses clean (pun intended) much, I'm sure like the O'Briens. I just think there's good and bad like this all over in every industry. JMO.

I think Sam Elliott may have said it on the Yellow Rose of Texas in the 80's...lol...maybe.

Sam Elliott, he's a cool cat! Somewhat sexy if you ask me lol ;) We gotta lighten the mood somehow in here hey? lol

Maybe I'm jaded, but do credit card companies even check references and info on applications anymore? Seems like they'll give those damn cards to anyone these days. But they must check, I'd think they have to. Maybe MH filled in the application and was an employee at P2 Solutions ;)

Haha thanks! When I'm not ranting about elaborate theories (or simple ones too), I try to stay diplomatic, and I think we all appreciate an odd joke in here once in awhile to keep from everyone getting too tense :)

I think they do a credit check. I also think that if you have a credit card from one bank, they will just give you one from their bank...but again, I believe it's through a credit check. Which is what I don't understand....if DG is using MH's identification, where does the credit report on MH come from in order to gain credit cards? Must all be part of the false i.d. documentation that you get when you 'order' a fake identity.

There is still the possibility that the 'bank card obtained by crime' belonged to one of the Liknes'. It may have been taken in an attempt to cover up the murder as a simple vanishing/leaving town.

Just having the card may not have been enough evidence at the time to hold him on murder.

Of course I agree, that it is probably more likely that DG was in possession of a MKH card, but the other theory is not beyond unreasonable.

I don't really understand how that all works either, sounds very complicated (but might not be for a pro).

That's where I think paper trails (or nowadays might be more of digital trails) possibly come in. Not saying DG did this but maybe by creating companies, company owners that are non existent, employees that don't exist, etc. But who knows, might be too elaborate, maybe not.

I tried googling identity fraud briefly, but most results are about digital identity and money theft of alive people (scams getting access to credit/banking info). If I was more patient, I'd search more, probably very interesting.

I'll take the blame for the tension! I had no intention of becoming the champion for speculation, or the hot oil for split hairs...

It's the open exchange of ideas and theories that produce great information like that piece on the ins and outs of chemical importing and transportation. I just want to preserve that.

And I vote no to Sam Elliot being sexy... what can I say... I've been disagreeing all day, why stop now?

When I read posts here I have certain voices assigned in my head. One that I "hear" is Carry Preston in her role of the Goodwife, she plays Elsbeth Tascioni, here is a description of her character...

I don’t think it’s a secret. I don’t know if Elsbeth ever thinks of herself that way, but her mind is definitely very nimble. She will spend just as much energy in her mind looking at someone’s outfit as she will trying to solve a case. Both of those things get equal attention in her mind, and that’s what makes her so delightful. I like to call her a scatterbrained genius. She’s someone who can actually have that many thoughts going on in her mind and still get things done.

She cracks me up!

Now I'm going to hear Elsbeth's voice everytime I read your posts! LOL!
