Maybe a dumb question, but is there a shooting range nearby the Liknes home? Seems those are all over, although likely more in the rural areas.
There is an indoor range called the Shooting Edge, maybe 10 minutes away from the Parkhill neighbourhood. I don't recall right now, but it seems to me they were robbed earlier this year, around May, and a sizeable part of their gun collection was stolen. They were shut down for a time, may be shut down still.

You know - of late I wonder what type of sleuthing is happening here........a little bit light hearted for my liking... perhaps you people can exchange personal emails - we are dealing with the murder of three people - can we take it back there please?

I respect your opinion and yes we've been quite comical lately, but no disrespect is meant towards the victims whatsoever.

I've shed quit a few tears for NO particularly, more than a stranger should and some days I feel guilty being on this forum and that it's unhealthy to be discussing this crime the way we do and I'm tempted to stop reading and posting because I get mad and emotional at some point each day thinking about little NO mostly.

I keep thinking what if the victim's family members read this? What if this was my child or family? But then, I realized that's why I'm on here, I want so badly for them to be found and frankly, I want the person who murdered them punished.

The humor makes things a little more bearable with such morbid discussion is all. JMO. Not meaning to offend anyone.

The more I consider it, the more the 'moving truck' scenario seems very possible. I would think one of the biggest challenges would have been to make the truck look as if it belonged there, as if he was there to help the L's in their move. If parked outside all night, no one would likely even notice it. Neighbours knew the L's were moving and they would have had friends helping.
If someone were moving some things into an already packed truck box in the middle of the night, even the nosiest neighbour would not be suspicious.
As per where bodies were taken,...I have no doubt that part would have been painstakingly researched beforehand. There is so much wilderness within a few hours drive, areas where no humans have ever tread.
Perhaps there was even a switch to a 4 wheel drive vehicle at some point. Wondering if a 4 WD vehicle was reported stolen?

  • #665
Now THAT would be quite the development. You would think that LE would've had more to go on in the early stages if that were the case though. The "test drive" and "no smoking gun" comments make it sound like any witness accounts wouldn't be line-up ID worthy.

If only the neighbors were more nosy. Every block seems to have at least one...
Some lotto winners don't collect their winnings for almost a year....some people like to think about things...maybe the neighbors came forward later, quietly...maybe they were afraid?

Wasn't that black truck in the slough a 4 wheel drive? The moving truck scenario would work very well indeed.

The black SUV was probably a 4WD, but I would really doubt the accused would have left it out in the open like that, so close to the farm. Unless by then he was exhausted and starting to feel the trauma of what he had done.
I'm thinking he could have driven to a remote area, with a stolen 4WD parked there, the victims transferred and then driven further into the moose pasture or forest. There are so many cut lines around Rocky Mountain House and Nordegg area, and very few backpacking tourists or adventure travellers.
Granted, this theory would have required a helper to get the stolen vehicle up there. (Even the Mayerthorpe loner had a couple of young buddies that helped him).

Thanks You Linike !! We seem to get caught up in the moment and forget that victims' families also read here. Occasional light-hearted remarks are usually kept to a minimum, but the volume of OT posts of late must be discouraging for those going through the grief of having lost loved ones.

There are various WS threads for banter and chilling:

While I may agree with what lala said Linike...I also see your point....That 'group hug' was for everyone...

I think we are all here for the same reasons...how we say things...or how we 'deal' ..can be as different as each of us... :)

Thanks for that.

I also wanted to mention something that came up y'day -- a comment on how not allowing groundless speculation was shutting down discussion.

I wanted to say that I believe groundless speculation and insensitive (IMO) banter also shut down discussion by driving away people who want to engage in reality-based discussions relevant to the case.

Overall I think the rules for this site [modsnip] make a lot of sense even though they can be frustrating at times. They do more good than bad IMHO.

Hi everyone! I hope morale can stay positive here now that we have had a bit of a "butt-kicking" in regards to comments this morning etc. I would like to say that for myself I have become quite comfortable in this forum and believe fellow sleuthers and posters are doing a tremendous job here. I sometimes forget that others are watching and reading our attempts. What we contribute sure does require a lot of energy and time and effort. For me it has taken its toll and taken me away from other activities which I could be focusing on. I am committed to seeing this thru and I know our efforts are worth it in various ways. Big pat on the back friends!

Back to business...

I have taken a look at the photos of the home for sale across the street (Parkhill). The photo's show the house as vacant. That could mean the house is currently vacant or the pics were taken before the house was personalized. I am not sure but I recall posts of a neighbors home being empty, was it a next door neighbor or this house across the street?

Also, when skimming the photos I can see through the front window to the Liknes home and notice the garage door appears to be brown. I wonder if these are current photo's and if the door has been replaced.

I wonder if the owners resided in the home or used it as a rental. Where did these people go? I hope LE has a forwarding address if they need to speak with them. I wonder if a realty sign has been posted on the property. Seems a little fishy IMO.

ETA: photo's are missing now, I will search again and see if I can find them or were they removed? Hmmm...

Update: Here are photo's:

Thank you ABro. You have said something I wanted to say but feared being flamed for it. If we can't disagree, or only some people feel free to disagree, it becomes pointless to comment at all. Soon there will be a very small number of like minded people dominating the discussion and agreeing with each other.

IMHO

PS I have found the "ignore" feature is a great way to avoid the posters or types of comments that add nothing, IMO, to the dialogue.

So 5 or 6 long time members had a light hearted exchange. Myself, I think it added a few raisins to the daily white loaf of what this thread had become, while we wait for anything new.
Perhaps when an exhaustive 'right fighter' took her/his leave recently, (maybe) a few of us felt it was timely to twist off a little bit. This thread has had a tendency towards unfriendly disagreement at times.
Even the grieving family would be allowed a heart felt chuckle, I would hope.

Lois...do you remember way back at the beginning of this case....we were all discussing market value on the L's house and there was some discussion about house prices in that area/on that street? I don't recall the house you've posted above being for sale then *it may have well been but I don't remember it being listed at that time* ...BUT..the house right next to it was...122 I think was the address...to the west of the house above...

The house that we have heard was empty...is the house right next to the L's...east side/garage side....

BTW...the photos are showing up for me on that first link to that listing...good sleuthing Lois!

Thanks! I would like to point out that if it weren't for my "off-topic" conversation with Lalalacasbah about us peering into windows at night I may not have looked at the interior photos of this real estate listing. So thank you Lalalacasbah!

Lois, I don't think pic #6 seen through the window is the Likenes' house. It's a blue 2 storey, and the garage is on the right side instead of the left.

Oh my, I will take another look. Thanks!

Yes, you are correct! the view thru the window is the garage of the home two houses down from the Liknes house. Weird that they have that angle! Thank you for pointing that out.

In the realtor's description, the bedrooms of this home are on the lower level. Knowing that, I'm not quite so surprised that the immediate neighbour across would not have been disturbed by any noise from across the street.
The living area would give a good view of DG's coming and going, from right across the street, but the owners were more likely downstairs asleep.

That wasn't OT Lois. It was discussing/responding to a post about what witnesses in the L's neighbourhood may or may not have seen as a result of peering in windows.
HTH :)
