Const. Trevor Matthes is my cousin. I remember long ago he'd told my Dad that he was one of the first officers on the scene but obviously didn't tell him anything more. I can't imagine visualizing the scene that he did.

Hey Everyone,

Thank you for working so hard on this case. You all deserve the credit.

Special shout out to Otto, Cheryl, and Rachel for agreeing to be interviewed.

When a reporter interviews the members then I know that person understands what we are trying to do.

To all of you thank you so very much.

You show the world what Websleuths is all about.

Tricia

PS. I know this is an old article but it is worth bringing up again.

Remember this?
Otto, you did SO much work on this case (and so many others too), and you had this case nailed early on. Kudos!

Armchair detectives trying to crack missing persons case on web forum

More than 2,000 messages posted so far
BY DYLAN ROBERTSON, CALGARY HERALD JULY 13, 2014 10:20 AM

As news helicopters circle over an Airdrie area acreage and investigators comb the scene, online forum poster “Otto” uploads a labelled topography map.
“The small boxes are the buildings,” he writes. Shortly after, a stranger named “Mrsguest” puts the address through a property search and links it to a business.
She’s among scores of amateur online sleuths, who have collectively posted over 2,000 anonymous messages related to the case on the forum websleuths.com. Users have deciphered police statements, used clever search tricks and pieced together family trees and timelines.

Launched in 1999 for strangers to follow the JonBenet Ramsey case in the United States, the forum now nets over 65,000 users, half of whom log on almost daily. The site is among a handful dedicated to following and probing unsolved crime and missing-persons cases across North America.

There hasn't been any mention of the senior Garlands or of PG being in attendance today, has there? Just wondering what they are doing today. I imagine this is all so incredibly difficult for them. Attend court proceedings or stay home and bide your time. What a choice! I hope they have a caring support system looking after them ie: church family or neighbours.

Reports say the 3 were killed at the farm. From nightstands and beds seems clear they were bludgeoned in their sleep thus incapacitated. Perhaps then handcuffed, etc and transported?

I'm wondering if they (or Alvin at least) were injected to knock them unconscious and then he pulled out teeth which created the blood near the head of the bed. There was mention of a tooth recovered in the hallway.

I'm guessing the small tooth located in the house was the result of the impact of the bar bell. And I truly hated typing that as much as even knowing it was a small tooth. :(

I won't be available to post the tweets after the lunch break. Hopefully we have someone around who can.

I'm of the feeling that he didn't spend a ton of time at the house. I think that they were bludgeoned on the spot, which would account for the blood especially if they were hit in the head. Head wounds bleed like crazy. This could also account for lost teeth if someone were hit in the face. He incapacitated them, whether the injuries did that alone or he injected something and/or tied them up somehow. Then he got them out and headed for the farm. MOO

There was a photo posted of an interior shot of the downstairs sofa and there were weights (green) next to the sofa from an ad off kijiji relating to the estate sale I believe. Then there was another photo posted at the trial yesterday of a different weight (white) next to the pullout that appeared clean. I am thinking that the Liknes's kept weights nearby to exercise. possibly DG was not aware of them (especially if he kept the lights off) and maybe Alvin tried to use them in a struggle... that's if there were other weights nearby to his bed or close by (not the basement as he was upstairs). Big What-if... but what if Alvin was able to hit DG and knocked out DG's teeth? Alvin was much larger than DG. And although the tooth was described as small I am not sure that description can determine if it belonged to a child, but I'm sure it will be disclosed later.

When DG was arrested he did not have any obvious injuries.

This was a surprise attack. The family was in their beds. Very doubtful anybody had a chance of defending themselves.
Unfortunately I think the weights may have been used by DG as a weapon.

I believe we discussed a potential goose egg on DG's forehead during the perp walk. As well, his mouth was closed so we wouldn't know for sure about his teeth.

Just wanting to clarify - I believe opening statements mentioned finding "small tooth" in the burn barrel. Now today there was mention of "tooth" or what looked to be a tooth in the hallway of Liknes home. I didn't see any reference to this being "small tooth". So, no confirmation yet of whose tooth/teeth were located.
