In speaking with Nancy Hixt (think it was her--following too many people!) via Twitter, she informed me that DG (and any defendant for that matter) could wear nicer clothes (such as a suit), but DG appears not to care..
Me too. I was also under the illusion it was a safe lock.

I was shocked by that. So all he had to do was drill that hole? No lock picking after that? Anyone could drill a hole and get in to a house if its really that easy

Omg - that is a must watch video commentary on the state of technology in our justice system! WOW.Christie Blatchford uses today's column to lament about court delays....
Christie Blatchford: Technology is the bane of Canadian courts and the Douglas Garland murder trial is no different
But she also gave a little insight into how DG is actively engaging in "his trial". I'm sure he's enjoying every minute of it. :notgood:

I tried to link it, but was unable on my phone for some reason.Just curious, where did you find this part, I missed that one: (She also does not believe Allen is common law with Patti anymore)
The details of this triple murder are going to be horrific. I gave no doubt. We will never know all the details, regardless.http://globalnews.ca/news/3187872/first-responders-will-testify-on-3nd-day-of-triple-murder-trial/

Does anyone know if any of the victims family are going to court daily? It would be so hard to sit through and listen to it.
ITA. Ultra creepy. <modsnip>Omg he even knew to turn off the wifi because they had internet phone??? This was very very planned. So creepy.
I'm thinking even if he had been there before as a visitor, how on earth would he know what make and model of lock they had on the door. Pretty sure I can't name one from any home I've ever been to, even quite frequently. Come to think of it, I have no idea what the model number of the one on my own door is. :waitasec:

I know many folks who live on rural properties around Calgary and northern Alberta. Everyone's situation is slightly different. Those that live close to a dumping station or landfill will collect their garbage and take it in periodically. Some burn their garbage. Some compost food waste but it is pretty rare. Recycling plastics and cardboard/paper seems to be pretty uncommon as well.
Burn piles, from what I have seen, are usually used for larger garbage burns. These are generally used for bigger burns of yard waste, fallen/pruned trees, large amounts of cardboard, etc. Burn barrels are for everyday household garbage.
My point is that, from the crown's perspective, if they found bone fragments in the ashes from the first burn barrel, and put forth a theory that these fragments belong to the victims, the defence may dismiss those bone fragments as being from burned kitchen waste - beef, chicken or pork bones. By collecting the ashes from the other burn barrels, 9 months later, they are able to say "look, here's the difference between the ashes we collected with bone fragments we believe belong to the victims and regular ashes from an average burn barrel, same people, same property, presumably same garbage habits, no similar bone fragments in the ashes collected later"
PS I live in the country and you have not described my garbage/compost/recycle habits accurately at all. I don't think you can generalize for all rural folks as to how they dispose of waste.

Playing the devils advocate here but if somebody were a grudge holding stalker who was plotting something sinister then they take note of such things.
Open fires on acreages are extremely dangerous because the wind direction shifts quickly, and a fire can take off in a matter of minutes. I doubt anyone would burn tree branches openly on an acreage. Strange as it sounds, ranchers, farmers, and people with 20+ acres of land pioneered environmental and sustainable concepts 50 years ago (when Garland's bought their property) and earlier with water wells, septic fields, use of solar heat, composting, and recycling. 2-4 acre property owners are different.

I assumed it was new, but I suppose media could have pulled up an old one...
