Judging by the small spray on the quilt from the master bedroom, he didn't appear to have bled all that much. Which would indicate that the blow to the head didn't cause a large wound. Wasn't there more blood in that room?

MOO

Yes there was quite a bit of blood on the mattress/headboard if i recall correctly.

Or he used that dna erase to clean truck but missed some spots that had Kathy's dna.

That is what I was thinking with the bedding and other areas that obviously had blood but the sample didn't have enough DNA. It shoulds like DG may have used the DNA erase on several things.

Mohrbutter confirms she can't give timeline for when DNA was left on items or how it got there #Garland

Kevin MartinVerified account ‏@KMartinCourts 44s45 seconds ago
Mohrbutter tells Lutz she can't tell when DNA is placed on an item.#Garland

Lucie Edwardson ‏@MetroLucie 53s54 seconds ago
Mohrbutter agrees her tests don't explain how a DNA sample got their, how long it's been there. #Garland #yyc

Mohrbutter says DNA can be preserved for a lengthy period of time if kept int he appropriate conditions. #Garland #yyc

Jim Lutz-asks if DNA can exist for centuries- Mohrbutter said depends where found/environmental conditions #Garland

I thought there was significant bloodletting in the main bedroom that Alvin was in. Between the bed and the bedroom door. Or am I getting that mixed up with the other bedroom?

Lutz is now asking Mohrbutter about chemicals used to clean lab/equipment of DNA #Garland #yyc

  • #727
Lucie Edwardson ‏@MetroLucie 51s51 seconds ago
Mohrbutter says from her understanding, those chemicals are "very effective at removing DNA" #Garland #yyc

"if there are trace amts of DNA...we want to remove those trace amts of DNA, so that's why we employ things like ELIMINase" #Garland #yyc

Lucie Edwardson ‏@MetroLucie 21s22 seconds ago
Mohrbutter says the chemical they use (ELIMINase) doesn't leave any residue behind- otherwise could interfere with other exhibits. #Garland

Mohrbutter explains chemicals used to remove DNA are very effective- RNase Away was found at #Garland property-said it can leave a residue

Lucie Edwardson ‏@MetroLucie 1m1 minute ago
Mohrbutter said RNase Away (chemical found #Garland farm) can leave residue, it recommends cleaning with distilled water after. #Garland

Valerie Fortney ‏@ValFortney 2m2 minutes ago
Mohrbutter: says RN-ase can leave a residue, but doesn't know what can be detected if it's used and not washed afterwards. #Garland

Kevin MartinVerified account ‏@KMartinCourts 39s40 seconds ago
RNase Away (which removes DNA and was found on #Garland farm) would leave a residue that would need to be cleaned with distilled water.

Afternoon break in #Garland trial #yyc

Nancy HixtVerified account ‏@NancyHixt 1m1 minute ago
Mohrbutter: after RNase Away is used on object-area should be wiped down w/distilled water to avoid residue. This is during cross #Garland

So with what we learned between yesterday and today...anybody want to venture some guesses on how long jury deliberation will be? I say less than 5 hours.

I think there was more blood on the floor next to the bed. Makes me wonder if DG hit AL with a club first and when that didn't immobilize him AL fought back.

"A swab of blood on a light switch from one of the #Garland sheds matched both Alvin and Kathy Liknes."

Do you think this would indicate they were both alive in that shed, or he brushed them against the light switch at some point, putting them inside? A light switch would be at least shoulder height from floor.

Is it possible he confronted Alvin over the patent stuff, knowing they would be moving and his chance of recognition/money was almost gone? An argument ensued, waking Kathy/Nathan, who came to see what was going on. He knew Alvin had a bad leg and he could have injured his legs further so he could not walk at all. If any of this is true, then they were probably alive (unconscious) when taken to the farm.

I would assume that Douglas had their blood on his gloves or clothes and it transferred to the light switch as he turned on the lights at some point.

I wonder if Garland knew he would be caught and was just so obsessed that he didn't care. That even if he was caught and convicted, it was worth it. Or was he so arrogant that he thought he'd never be caught?

Totally agree...Go out with a bang.

Does anyone know what number witness this is today? If I'm not mistaken the Crown is supposed to call 60 witnesses. How many more do we have and I wonder what other information they might have?

Now discussing the hacksaw recovered from the #Garland farm. Matched DNA of both Nathan O'Brien and Alvin Liknes.

Mixed DNA sample from hacksaw latch had a major component matching Alvin Liknes. #Garland

Courtroom screen showing pic of hacksaw from #Garland farm. 1 in 130 billion chance DNA found on it belonged to someone other than Nathan.

Im sorry Nathan. :tantrum:

This is all so disturbing and sending hugs to all involved and thanks for the group hug for us. Sometimes I feel like I am still in 2014 as the evidence unravels. When his planning was found on the hard drive you just want to tell the family to run because he was coming to get them. I never will understand what makes people think that murder is the answer because in the end most get caught. Is the next big case for Alberta the Hailey Dunbar Blanchette case? Does anyone know when that is?

IMO .... GRAPHIC....

I think DG injected AL with something either before or after an initial blow, MOO. AL staggers for a bit, attempts to fight, hence the mess in the master bedroom, then falls. DG notes the absence of KL and moves through the house to locate her. KL may already be awakened by the ruckus and therefore was attacked more strongly, as she had her senses about her. NO'B, I think, likely heard or saw this. KL likely to have said, 'stay here, I'll be right back', but did not get far. DG forces KL back into the room and continues with her until she is not responsive. At his age, I think NO'B may have just been paralyzed in place, and was attacked in place in the bed. DG likely struck NO'B with the same force as he would an adult and therefore I do not believe NO'B survived the bedroom. The bloodletting points were where bodies were left in place for a few minutes or longer while DG moved about the house doing his thing. I do not believe N'OB left the L home alive, and I don't believe KL ever fully regained consciousness, perhaps partially. I think that the meat hooks were used to have KL on display for AL to see.
Sorry so graphic.
ALL MOO, subject to change as we learn more.
