This isn't a direct quote but didn't at some point during the press conference the police chief say something along the lines of - these are the only things the POI will be charged with at the minute but they will be looking into unsolved previous cases ... could it be that because of this case it may come to light that this was not the first time 'he' has committed murder?
On a personal note - I have my own 5 year old son sleeping next to me in bed right now ... the knot in my stomach and the ache in my heart for all the loved ones is almost unbearable. ... the family have lost ... no, not lost ... they have been robbed of SO much.
I agree with someone's post that DG's sister may have provided useful tips for the investigators. She should know more about DG's personality, how he felt about the dispute with Liknes, how knowledgeable DG was about the Liknes's upcoming garage sale and moving plans. I read early on that she took leave indefinitely from her work for family emergency.
How hard it must be for DG's sister, if that's the case.
Reporter asks if POI may be charged with anything further (other than the 3 murders) RH says "Any time there is a homicide of this magnitude, we would be remiss if we didn't look at every file we have outstanding"I thought LE was quite specific in saying there were only the 3 charges, only the 1 suspect, they have enough pieces put together to create a solid enough case to lay those charges, however they will continue to look for the bodies and of course any other evidence that crops up in the process (regarding *this* case).

There have been way too many relaxed sentences in Canada over the years, I am hoping with all my being that he gets life. I am thankful he is actually alive, these days most killers end up killing themself once they realize they have been caught, I hope we can still get some answers to this senseless crime.
I keep trying to type something, but there just aren't any words, only feelings that I can't even really put into words.
Why anybody, why the grandparents, why Nathan? Why NATHAN ??
My heartfelt condolences, prayers and hugs to the families of Alvin, Kathryn, and sweet little Nathan

I just caught up after being away from here since this morning. I have no words for what this has come to, I don't even understand. Not sure what the heck was between DG and the L's, but why could he have not just left NO to live? Life as they knew it for the O'Brien's is forever changed, and for what purpose?![]()
Douglas Garland is the man police will be charging with the murders of three Calgary family members, CBC News has learned.
Sources have confirmed that Garland, who was taken into police custody earlier today, will facing two first-degree murder charges in the deaths of Kathy and Alvin Liknes and a second-degree murder charge in the death of their five-year-old grandson, Nathan O'Brien.
