More info just released here:

RCMP would not confirm the cause of death or who owns the property.

"At this time police are treating this as a homicide," RCMP Const. Bill Rudolph said. "The remains were transported to the medical examiner's office in Halifax.

"I will let the medical examiner speak to this, but what we have been advised is that it was through visual means that [determined] it was in fact the remains of Amber Kirwan."

Investigators were executing a search warrant Saturday in connection with Kirwan's disappearance, when human remains were found on a wooded farm property.

The property is about a half hour drive from Dooly's pool hall in New Glasgow, where Kirwan was last seen. Kirwan was from the New Glasgow area.

The fact that LE searched the area extensively for 2 days in mid-October, indicates to me that they were there searching from good, solid evidence.

Probably the cell phone(s).

Thank goodness they found Amber.

Great job LE. Thank goodness the public helped with this case.

Late Sunday afternoon, Kirwan's parents, Donald and Marjorie, released the following statement:

"It is with overwhelming sadness and grief that our worst fears were realized yesterday. Our beloved Amber will not be coming home to us. Words cannot express the sorrow and sense of loss we feel.

"Amber was an amazing daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, girlfriend and friend. We cannot imagine life without her. She was so young and it breaks our hearts to think of all of the good things in life she will not get to experience.

"Her time with us was so special. To have it taken away so needlessly is something we will never get over. She was our special girl and we would do anything to bring her back.

"We would like to thank the people of New Glasgow, Pictou County and beyond, who have supported us during this tragedy. We would also like to thank the police services, search and rescue groups, businesses and s many others who worked so diligently to locate Amber.

"We ask the media for privacy now as we grieve the loss of our little angel. Any question please contact Cst. Macdonald New Glasgow Police, 759-7277.

"The Kirwan Family."

  • According to details from news articles, the area where Amber's remains have been found, is apparently not the same area that was searched weeks ago, which was the Heathbell Rd. / Scotch Hill Rd. area (" A ")

  • The news of the reward money to be increased came on Friday -- we don't know tough when LE received the tip about that property on Heathbell Rd. / Hardwood Hills Rd. area (" B ").

  • Still, :waitasec: I can't help but wonder if increasing the reward money from $5,000 to $15,000 played a role in the tipster coming forward.
MAP showing A and B = http://g.co/maps/92b2s (approximate locations)

Blinkhorn first put up $1,000 of her own money, then raised it to $5,000.

On Friday, she held a fundraiser, and by Saturday, thanks to donations from the community, the reward was raised to $15,000.

She doesn't know whether the reward brought a tip to police.

otto, do you know for sure that is the property? We had already narrowed down to that exact same property

Do you think the circled area is correct?

oh darn....I have been coming here everyday to see if Amber had been found....I knew that she would be found deceased, but it is still so sad to hear of this......

I also think the increase in the reward money has led to a tip, now it will be very interesting to see just what comes out

Like someone said before, a life too short! RIP Amber

Someone posted the property line earlier - the exact address being 627 Heathbell Road. I just put the one map over the other, but I don't know for sure.

Arrggg My computer will not let e see the maps..If you follow up Hardwood Hill Road from Lyons brook end you will come to Heathbell Road. If you turn left onto Heathbell Road it is paved and goes to Scotsburn,,,If you turn right the road is a dirt road. It is not far on this road where Amber was found...it is close to where they searched before. If you continue on that road you come to Scotch Hill.

That's more or less the area I marked ... just a little ways up the road, before getting to the driveway to the 89 acre farm. All I did was add the property line around the google image of the farm and the most likely access to the farm property from the main road (without using the farm driveway).

Hazel posted this video:

http://www.cbc.ca/video/#/News/Canada/NS/1305553631/ID=2165019092

If you look at 0:32-0:50 of the video, you will see two police cars parked across the center of the unpaved Heathbell Road.

Look beyond the police cars and you'll see that the road curves to the right in the distance. Now go back to your map--you can see the road curve to the right.

MSM says Amber was found at the beginning of the unpaved Heathbell Road, probably right after the police cars, on the left. My point? I believe you got it right, Otto. Exactly right.

Hi Oceansalt,

I don't think it is your computer but rather that you don't have 100 posts yet to be able to see the uploaded images.

I have fired up a couple of images that I had onto Photobucket so you can take a look. Now, I have to go back and follow Google maps based on your description to see if Amber was found near where we all think she was.

I haven't used Photobucket in awhile so hopefully this will work for you.

ETA: That didn't work - will try again

Orange circle = is where previous search took place.... did we get it right Oceansalt?

Do you have county information available that will list he owner of said property?

It's a sheep farm. I don't believe the owners have anything to do with this at all. I think it was just a place chose to put poor Amber's body because it's isolated.

That's what I've heard too - that the owners are not connected with her disappearance and murder. Their names are probably being withheld for a good reason.
