It is a large parcel of land around 300 acres I believe. We have 30 acres of land and truthfully I would have no idea of what was going on on my land except maybe for the immediate 5 acres around me. I think it was just a way in the middle of nowhere place to comitt a crime.

I tend to agree. But something or someone pointed LE in that direction and to that particular parcel of land twice. ... Which leads me to question, does anyone know if MC has GPS in his car?

Interesting:

When asked if Heathbell residents should be concerned about their safety, Rudolph said that was a difficult question to answer in light of the fact that they don't have anyone in custody for the murder as of yet.

"Everyone should use proper care when out and about," he said, adding he couldn't comment on whether this was a random act because the homicide investigation was only 24 hours old.

He said it was too early to say if the police had any suspects in mind.

Sunday, Oct. 9

• 1:30 a.m. - Amber calls her boyfriend, Mason Campbell, to meet her at Big Al's using a phone borrowed from a friend. She tells her friends she's OK to walk from Dooly's to the convenience store. She never reaches her destination.

• 1:40 a.m. - Campbell arrives at Big Al's; he says it took about eight minutes for him to get there. Amber isn't there; he calls the phone she used to call him to see if she's still there. He has no luck finding her.

• Morning - Campbell contacts Amber's friends to see if they know where Amber might be. No one has seen her.

• 5 p.m. - Family members go to New Glasgow Police to report Amber missing. A Facebook group is started to raise awareness.

Monday, Oct. 10

• 7 a.m. - New Glasgow Police send a notice to media that they are searching for a missing person. Ground Search and Rescue is called in to search the area. Friends begin searching the area themselves and hanging missing posters in the area.

A little dismayed to not see an arrest announcement this morning, however, having full confidence in LE.

It's important to remember this, I think:

Rudolph confirmed the general area was searched before on the weekend of October 15. He said they came to search the area based on tips and their own investigation.

"It's not one of those 'ah ha' moments," he said. "It's something that builds."

He said it takes a considerable amount of time to build and process a warrant.

According to friends, Amber had 1-2 drinks all night and in the Dooly's video that was released by the police to MSM Amber does not appear to be drunk when she walks away from Dooly's.

According to the boyfriend, he himself has stated in MSM that he is not a suspect.

The police/RCMP have not stated that they have a POI or suspect. The police/RCMP have not stated that anybody is ruled out either.

Flags are flying at half mast today at the Nova Scotia Community College in honour of 19-year-old Amber Kirwan.

In a memo sent to students at the Pictou Campus, principal David Freckleton told the students that grief counselling is available at the school and flags would be flying half-mast as a way for the college to pay its respects to Kirwan.

Thanks. I was wondering if it was similar to the Morgan Harrington case in Virginia ... but she had quite a bit to drink when she disappeared and it appeared that she was hitchhiking. It was a stranger abduction and murder - unsolved. I'm not suggesting the same person was involved, but more looking at the circumstances.

Since the boyfriend was supposed to pick her up and has said that perhaps he didn't wait long enough, is it possible that she decided to hitchhike? She didn't have a phone - I'm assuming - since she borrowed one to phone her boyfriend. Was the convenience store open - meaning - could she make a phone call from the store?

Is the general thinking that the boyfriend was involved or that it was a stranger abduction.

My heart sank when I saw that remains had been found. I knew that this was the most likely outcome, but still one hopes. :cry:

Police have not released a cause of death, but they do say her death is being investigated as a homicide.

Lisa Williams lives on the farm property.

"It's very heartbreaking to know that she was in our backyard, in our woods, that she's very close to home. And that we didn't find her, we didn't bring her home," she said.

Who would have used this road to haul wood etc.???

A nearby resident, who asked not to be named, tells News 95.7 search crews have been combing the woods off Heathbell Road for some time.

"They have known right from the word go, I think, that she was there because they never gave up looking there," "They've been there for the last two or three weeks, looking."

The resident says the body was found along an old woods road used to haul wood which is rarely used anymore.

Man who went to police claiming knowledge of woman’s disappearance gets house arrest

PICTOU – A county resident has been sentenced to 60 days of house arrest after he went to the RCMP with a tale last month that he knew where missing girl Amber Kirwan was being held.

Ghasem Yarahmadi, 46, is originally from Iran, but now resides in New Glasgow. He went to the RCMP detachment on Oct. 26 to report information on Kirwan’s whereabouts after she went missing Oct. 9.

Yarahmadi told police he had the ability to “see things” and could bring police to where the girl was being held, Crown attorney Patrick Young told Pictou provincial court Monday afternoon. He described a vision that the girl was being held by two men, but said he would only give the details to RCMP Staff-Sgt. Steve Halliday.

He told police that he needed a few minutes with Kirwan’s boyfriend, Mason Campbell, to pinpoint her location.

Yarahmadi also told police that he had martial arts training and was willing to use it to help the police confront the men who held Kirwan.

“He said he was willing to die for this country, but the police needed his help. He said he’d lose 30 to 40 per cent of his power if he did not bring the knife to this confrontation with the young girl’s boyfriend,” Young added.

Police arrested Yarahmadi under the Mental Health Act. He was later charged with two weapons charges, but the charge involving a firearm was dropped Monday.

A memorial service will be held in Truro Tuesday night in Victoria Park between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. The dress code is green, Kirwan's favourite colour.

RCMP seize vehicle in Amber Kirwan homicide case

HEATHBELL ROAD – A 2002 grey Chev Impala has been seized Monday around 4 p.m. as part of the investigation into the murder of Amber Kirwan, according the RCMP.

RCMP would not disclose who owned the vehicle or where it was located when it was seized.
