http://www.trurodaily.com/News/Local/2011-12-19/article-2841922/Hospice-vigil-for-those-experiencing-grief,-loss/1TRURO - A special gathering for people experiencing grief or loss during the Christmas holidays will take place this week.
"The longest night of the year has the least sunlight and darkness is symbolic with grief. Grief can be dark and lonely and lots of people experience grief during the winter and holidays," said Yuill.
She said the Thursday night gathering, which begins at 7 p.m. and lasts about an hour, is open to everyone who is experiencing grief or loss.
Yuill added sometimes there needs to be healing after a "highly public death" as well. She offered the recent murder of New Glasgow's Amber Kirwan as an example.
The event will begin by meeting at the hospice centre on the Esplanade at 7 p.m. Participants will be given a candle and the group will walk silently, and in candlelight, to the Victoria Park bandshell.
"That will be when they can take a moment to honour someone's memory and be with their grief," said Yuill. "But then we will celebrate and it can be a very healing and positive time."
