Thread a bit inactive so hope this brief off-topic is ok. Very interested to see what the cause of this terrible fire in Sharon was. Mother had had a stroke so maybe the two sons and the father were trying to help her out o/w strange they would all be found in one room (if correct). Called to bar I believe in 1984 the father, did Family Law. One surviving son who was away at university. They seem like bland little commuter villages now but these Ontario towns often have interesting histories - Sharon does:

Two questions one on this case the other related but on another case on a somewhat moribund thread:

1. How much is Audrey's case compromised by the earlier arrest? Haven't been interested in crime or cold cases for long so not sure what to compare to.

2. In Sharin Keenan homicide 1983 the officers who found her body did so without a warrant - media at the time said the officers were seriously dressed down for this one later committed suicide. From what you know how seriously would that compromise charges being laid? I mean common sense would say that she would eventually been discovered and the perp (his fridge where she was found) had already fled a week before. But again maybe the law would prevail and it would get thrown out on that basis?

In Audrey's case as I understand it is now a uphill climb for LE. Again common sense tells me that it should not be insurmountable but perhaps I am wrong.

Thanks for your help whoever can help.

Cannot recall if Audrey's "huge' engagement ring was accounted for..

"Public Safety Alert,
Police request assistance with distraction theft investigation
Broadcast time: 15:30
Wednesday, March 27, 2013
13 Division
416−808−1300
The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a series of distraction
thefts.
On Tuesday, March 26, 2013, police responded to a theft call in the Eglinton Avenue
West/Dufferin Street area.
It is reported that an elderly woman was talking in the area and jewelry stolen from her.
Police have investigated approximately 20 such similar cases of distraction thefts over the
past year.
In these investigations it is reported that:
− a vehicle pulls up and a woman gets out and approaches an elderly person on the street
− a driver remains in the vehicle and, on several occasions, there has been a toddler in a
childseat in the back of the car
− sometimes the woman asks directions to a doctor's office or a pharmacy
− other times the suspect asks for financial help for a funeral or assistance with a planned trip
− the woman might ask the victim if she would like to sell some of her jewelry
− the conversation ends by the suspect giving the victim a hug
− during the course of the hug, the suspect removes the victim's jewelry, necklaces and
earrings, and replaces these items with pieces of a lesser value
− in many instances, the victim does not realize her possessions have been taken until hours
later
If approached in this way, members of the public are encouraged to keep a distance from the
person and call police".

"Barrie police are investigating an attempted sex assault at gunpoint along the walking path at Johnson's Beach in the city's east end Wednesday.

According to police, a 70-year-old woman was walking east on the trail from the beach between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. when she was approached by a man armed with what appeared to be a dark grey, or black handgun.

Police say the man demanded that she remove her pants and the woman screamed for help and the man turned and ran east towards Shanty Bay"

Do these guys "practice" on other more vulnerable victims (elderly, handicapped ect) first, before making a move towards attacking their ideal " desired "victim?
Graphic.
http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2013/04/05/sexual_sadist_at_18_raises_disturbing_questions.html

"The sadist, after announcing he’d been expelled from another school for sexual assault and had spent four months in a psychiatric facility, also sends the girl a web link to his blog, wherein he claimed a doctor had diagnosed him with “necrophilia and sadism.”

A semi colon is also used to link 2 seperate statements relating to the main subject matter. I'll bet Audrey could sort out the rules. lol

If that was the case, the whole article or paragraph could have consisted of semi-colons, instead of just the two clauses within the parentheses.

"Spec journalists get national nods

Two Hamilton Spectator reporters have been honoured with nominations for the Canadian Association of Journalists Awards.

Steve Buist and Jon Wells were each recognized for their work over the past year.

Buist was nominated in the data journalism category for his series Condition Critical, which examined health delivery by our Local Health Integration Network.

Wells is nominated in the print feature category for He Sang With All His Heart, a feature about Chris Skinner, the Waterdown teen who died of alcohol poisoning"

I'm afraid to say or think this, but after so much time which has passed I highly doubt Audrey's death/murder will ever be solved. No one seems to be fighting for justice out in the public eye. Her dear friends have (seemingly) all disappeared into the woodwork.

I'm happy you guys are still at it here. And I see that some who 'left' this thread have now 'returned'. Very cool.

Yet Audrey's killer is out there somewhere. Who.....where.....why.....

Yes dotr, I also thought of Audrey when I read this. Seems I think of her a great deal.

Quoted from Chorley8:

<<< How much is Audrey's case compromised by the earlier arrest? Haven't been interested in crime or cold cases for long so not sure what to compare to. >>>

I think that we read waaaaay back that the case/non-case involving DLS did set everything back a LOT!! LE sort of has to begin from scratch and that's very difficult to do after so much time.

Now do they (LE) look back into the bags of evidence? Who knows. It's been far too quiet for my liking. And frankly, that's why I've almost given up hope.

I really hope I'm wrong about all of this.....

:please:

So No Stone I have to ask (not you but in general).

Why arrest him? Why not keep him in their sights or have him put under some kind of mental health certificate until the DNA came back?

LE can be told what to do as well: is there any chance a higher agency asked them to mess up the case? I know this sounds terrible but I can't understand why they felt they felt the need to make an arrest and then get the DNA. It makes no sense. Tell me if I am wrong.

And if so that would lead us towards the Chalk River angle including anyone of importance she knew back then I mean of importance now not necessarily then.

By the way I can recommend a recent link by Dotr on the Sharon Prior thread to a blog where some fairly desperate types discuss what they claim happened to her murderer. In a sense that should be linked to every case here. Websleuths is quite genteel and at street level lots of things are known and LE isn't always good at getting there because who the heck would want to work undercover in a biker gang etc. - I can hardly think of a worse job. One person I knew growing up did this got addicted had to retire early. And I once met a guy in a bar who had a small gun in his boot which he showed me and took out and he claimed to be a Napanee area officer AWOL and addicted he had been doing coke for days in a Toronto hotel. The badge he showed me looked real but who knows.

So who knows what happened to Audrey?

My humble response to Chorley8's question:

I think that Hrab et al felt obliged to make a quick arrest. It's my feeling that Hrab wanted to end his career with a big win.

So, LE receives info about some 'weird guy who was seen holding a knife near Audrey's place'. Well.........BINGO!! Arrest him on suspicion.

But as we know, that all fell apart thus compromising the entire thing. :banghead:

I highly doubt this killing had anything to do with Chalk River or with anything from afar. I still feel the killing was much more close to home.

Now, I'm afraid to use initials here and I'm afraid to mention baked goods (cookies, muffins, tarts, petits fours, biscuits, pies, doughnuts, brownies) because it might upset some posters and cause them to jump ship again. :lurk:

So.................I suppose I have not much more to add.

I agree with No Stone. Hrab was noted for being dramatic, he was noted for calling in the press right away for any of his investigations.

Don't be discouraged Stone ... regardless of the ingredients, the factor that determines the successful outcome is timing.

It is wonderful to see so many posters keeping Audrey's thread alive. Were it not for you, her name would fade away from the public's eye.

Yes we seem to have run out of ideas no doubt temporarily. Maybe we have gotten afraid of ruffling feathers. Here is an old case from Toronto that would have intrigued Audrey she may even have known about it the woman was seen in Hamilton and near Brantford sleeping rough - never found. A bit interesting not to say troubling that a "good Baptist girl" can be driven half insane or addicted quickly by a kidnapper.

Thanks SB, I hear ya! Timing AND closely following the formula (aka recipe). In time, the oven bell will go "ding".

I don't believe I will ever forget Audrey, just as I will never forget Victoria Stafford.

Oddly, I still fluctuate between theories stranger vs known
dna vs no dna
etc etc.
ummm....cake vs no cake LOL! couldn't resist :truce:
