I can't see why the realtor would notify the housekeeper to prepare for a showing, when she could/should have contacted the owner, unless the realtor knew of a reason why the owner couldn't be contacted?

corrected to change housekeeper to 'realtor'

I’ve always wondered why the housekeeper didn’t do a once-over of the home, or look for Honey, especially when the first realtor and their clients arrived and waited for the Sherman’s agent.

(IIRC) Honey’s car was parked on the driveway outside the home. One clue that she may be home.

Early reports said the realtor couldn’t reach the Shermans to arrange for a showing.

Police in Toronto found the bodies of Sherman, 75, and his wife, Honey, 70, on Friday in their North York home after the couple’s real estate agent entered their recently listed $6.9 million dollar mansion because he couldn’t reach them.

On that cool winter day last December, the agent recalled arriving at the Sherman home on Old Colony Road — an affluent neighbourhood in north Toronto — with his clients, before their scheduled viewing appointment.

The mansion was listed at $6.7 million.

The agent said a person cleaning the home let them in and allowed them to wait inside. A short time later, an agent representing the Shermans arrived.

It doesn't seem like there was any misinterpretation, it seems to have been spelled out rather clearly, imho. ('if this, then that'). I sure hope they'd be seeking an outstanding suspect if a couple were found murdered in their home.
"We did not observe any signs of forced entry into the building and so at this point indications are that we have no outstanding suspect to be going after," Det. Brandon Price told reporters.
Toronto billionaire, wife found dead; Police call deaths ‘suspicious’

I recall one of the early videos I watched showed Det Price outdoors speaking to the residents and reporters were also standing on the street. But it wasn’t an interview. So was his statement a flat out comment to the media or was it in response to a neighbour asking him if a violent robbery occurred, should they be concerned for either personal safety, should they stay book a hotel or stay with friends or relatives until the suspect is caught? We just don’t know but given the video and the concern of the neighbourhood, it could’ve been the later and his response to them was taken out of context when it was reported by the media.

I know if two bodies were found in a house down the street I’d want to be reassured that a violent and vicious robbery gang wasn’t known to be out and about in the neighbourhood before I went to bed.

Misty, don't you think that if Det. Price was responding to a neighbour asking if they should be concerned about a violent robbery, the media would have included this context, if not then, then later, and certainly the Toronto Police Chief would have noted it, in defense of Price's statement?

No, me personally, I think the media is mainly concerned about capturing readership considering it is a for-profit business. TPS stated many, many times to the media the deaths were deemed “suspicious” and that’s as much as LE is ever able to say until the Coroner’s Report and formal death findings are released.

I’ve known people interviewed by the media regarding local happenings who were outraged to see their comments were strategically cut and snipped to the point the context of what they said was dramatically altered. However they weren’t misquoted because they indeed did speak the words that were reported, even though other important portions of the interview were deleted entirely.

In this case, “no forced entry” and “no suspects sought” was also factually correct information, in those early hours. It’d have been medically impossible for a homicide to be immediately declared considering the staged suicide death scene. Until a homicide is declared, LE has absolutely no reason to be chasing down suspects. The Homicide Division took over the investigation two days later iirc, when the cause of death was found to be ligature neck compression for both victims.

JMO but the Homicide Division taking over the investigation of “suspicious deaths” was a very good indication the investigation was already heavily leaning towards a double homicide having occurred.

Re reading this article and wondering if HS returned a call or a text about the missed meeting?
Is it known if it was in fact HS who responded?

On a different train of thought, would BS be more lenient with in-laws than his cousins when it comes to money owed for failed businesses?
Would HS have influence over BS' decisions in that regard?

Unrelated coincidence- but thinking of how the body discovery was described as looking like leftover Halloween decorations, this comes to mind..( last quote from article bolded in blue)
imo, speculation, rbbm.
Endless court battles, angry relatives and shady players: the truth about Barry Sherman
"On Dec. 12, 2017, the day before the couple was last seen alive, Honey missed a scheduled meeting at the Baycrest Centre Foundation. Were it any other board member, no one would’ve paid heed, says Josh Cooper, the foundation’s president and CEO. But Honey, a beloved queen bee in the upper echelons of Canadian philanthropy, was known for showing up—or else saying she couldn’t. “It was bizarre,” says Cooper. They sent an email to make sure she was okay. “Honey got back to us right away,” he says. “She said she was dealing with some stuff.”

"A year later, Sherman had a run-in with the FBI and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration over a mail-order scheme he ran with his brother-in-law, Allen Shechtman. It involved a Bahamas-based company, Medicine Club, mailing Apotex drugs, including generic Prozac, from Canada to half a million U.S. households without prescription. Medicine Club pleaded guilty to one count of illegal interstate commerce and was fined US$500,000 for selling drugs without approval; it was also forced to pay $339,000 for investigative costs. Authorities had been tipped off by U.S. drug manufacturers, entrenched Sherman foes. (Sherman bankrolled another of his brother-in-law’s ventures, Martin Ross Group Inc., a jewellery company that filed for bankruptcy in 2015, owing $5.2 million to two Sherman-controlled companies.)"

"On Halloween in 2017, six weeks before the Shermans were killed, Apotex was also named as a defendant in an ever-widening price-fixing lawsuit launched by a consortium of state attorneys general south of the border. The core allegation is that Apotex “enjoyed ill-gotten gains” by colluding with two other manufacturers to hike the price of Leflunomide, an anti-arthritis drug."

I think he also missed Thursday.

Yes the Shermans were last seen Wednesday, their bodies discovered before noon on Friday, Dec 15th.

But Barry Sherman had already stepped back from active involvement in Apotex’s daily business affairs and was noted a philanthropist, had other companies and interests, for example was also involved in commercial real estate. Presumably, management of those interests often took place in other locations.

As opposed to a 9 to 5 type employee, it’s likely nobody at Apotex would’ve felt he was obliged to notify them of his daily schedule or absence on any day.

Will search for a link, but offhand i recall the reason BS' absence did not ring alarms was because he had trouble sleeping and may have slept in, or something like that, imo.

I also recall it mentioned that he often came in later and then worked late into the evening.

Police are investigating the ‘suspicious’ deaths of Toronto billionaires Barry and Honey Sherman
"Barry did not show up for work on Thursday, an unusual occurrence for the work-obsessed man, friends said."

Murder-suicide suspected in deaths of Toronto billionaire and wife
Dec 16 2017
"Sources said Sherman — believed to be worth almost $5-billion — did not show up for work at Apotex Thursday, which did not immediately raise alarm bells.

A real estate agent, who was selling the couple’s house, went to the home and made the grisly discovery after she was unable to contact them to make an appointment for a showing."

*Also noting this tidbit because it is included at the ( now located) link.fwiw.

"Sources close to the case believe Honey may have been killed in a secondary location in the $6.9 million Old Colony Rd. house and then moved to the location where she was later found with her deceased husband."

I think it's also that Barry and Honey were very big cheeses, employees and underlinings aren't accustomed to questioning the boss's actions, or to take an initiative on their own which could possibly get them into trouble. I would assume that Barry/Honey had good reasons for being somewhere, and it was not my business to check up on them.

I assume so too. It would be highly unusual for an employee, or even another executive of the company, to call in asking for a welfare check by LE just because the boss didn’t appear one day.

In dealing with children or high risk situations it might be different. But independent adults with active lives, in my world anyway one day of no contact with someone wouldn’t be cause for alarm.

This one? From the WSJ:

No one at Apotex was alarmed when Mr. Sherman failed to show up at work the next day. A colleague said the boss was a poor sleeper who often came in late or occasionally worked from home when fatigued.

Not available in my region.
The amateur web sleuths investigating the disappearance of Jeffrey Boucher were in the middle of an online conversation about his family’s so-called “odd” behaviour when a voice intimately familiar with the case piped up.

“Hi, this is KB, Mrs. Boucher. I just found this website yesterday, and have spent quite a number of hours reading the 65 pages of posts,” wrote Kirsten Boucher, wife of the Whitby teacher who vanished six weeks ago.

Sorry that you can’t read the link in your country. It’s just a very short article about Tom Klatt’s involvement in the case.

ID article written by Det. Tom Klatt:
Local police unleashed one of the largest missing-persons searches in its history but had found nothing. After that, I was on the case.

After Jeff Boucher’s body was discovered, I felt a great deal of sadness for his family. It was a disappointment; however not a surprise given that his disappearance was completely out of character. The search for Mr. Boucher was frankly unparalleled in this area in terms of the resources and efforts put forth by law enforcement. The lead detective Jeff Kennedy was professional, sensitive, and very thorough in his investigation.

Apropos J. Desai ( I searched for something quite different)

After Jewish Canadian billionaire owner’s death, succession doubts cloud Apotex future
In an email response, Apotex said it had implemented a succession plan when Sherman relinquished the CEO role, with vice chairman Jack Kay succeeding him in 2012 before Jeremy Desai took the helm in 2014. “From that point on until his tragic death, Dr. Sherman was no longer involved in day-to-day operations at Apotex, rather focused on some specific aspects of the business,” it said.

This is also the second case that I know of where a Verified Insider is posting here at WS and retired detective Thomas Klatt is involved in the case.

ETA: link to case mentioned above - http://crimefeed.com/2014/06/last-seen-alive-4/

Not to derail this thread, but Lexi, IIRC you went on an organized search(s) for Jeffrey Boucher? I got my first WS time out for defending his poor wife against a few who thought she was involved in his disappearance. Very sad case.
