Bens truck was fairly new, is it possible it had a tracking system (theft protection) that LE looked at is why they said it didn't move?

  • #702
Another hypothecate scenario — Ben left NR in his truck and trailer to go riding, unloaded Gunny, then was ambushed at some point. Gunny fled in terror whether or not it was the intention to leave her loose, she couldn’t be captured. With no other option the perp drove Ben’s truck and trailer back to his residence so it wasn’t found abandoned where it was parked, with the hope it would be days before anyone discovered the riderless horse. The other perp hid the body. That scenario would involve at least two people assuming Ben drive to go riding alone.
There are many possible scenarios agreed. . But think about some of the evidence we’ve been told, mostly about typical Ben. He told someone when he rode out (or trailered), he always took his phone, he normally took his dog. Also - where is Ben? All that would leave tracks. Imo. Or a trace of him. Imo.

Hard to say.

Remember, the big problem here is someone is lying.
Someone told LE Ben “rode out about 2” but LE believe otherwise, hence their request for dash cam video.

Well lying or he had went out at 2pm and then came back, went out saturday night. Sunday day off, no one see's him but maybe they wouldn't. However monday is different, why did no one miss him?

  • #705
Idk if anyone missed him Monday.
As manager, it wasn’t really up to anyone to watch over him.
We don’t know, did he usually report to the office at 8 or 9, or did he check around the ranch first, get his team started, maybe do errands .....
I have never found the precise time NR was notified Ben’s horse was found. If not until around noon, someone must have wondered where he was. Moo

Ranch horses will load onto just about anything, no questions asked. It is commonplace for them to be hauled on different trailers. Most outfits don’t necessarily have only one brand of trailer. We are a small farm and have a livestock trailer as well as a horse trailer. Our horses don’t ask questions- they just get on and go.

Found by KR at 5:30am Monday morning. KR was then told it was Ben’s horse by 12:30pm same day. That’s all I’ve seen reported except horse was taken to a corral (IR) and held there til identified.

Do you have link for that?

The early stories state he was last 'seen' at 2.

A separate issue was the suggestion, from unknown persons, that he might have ridden out to Swakum Ridge looking for stray cattle, and that would account for his horse ending up where it was found.

I have seen no evidence anyone was lying. I think that's your assumption.

ETA: It could easily be that, after more inquiry, family and friends had contact with him Saturday evening and that's why the last seen info changed.

This may help. In this updated report they are asking for dash cam video to see if he was trailered out. If you click on original version of report, you’ll notice in that one they’re stating he was last seen Saturday afternoon riding out.

The fact that the updated report leaves that out tells me they don’t believe the original report. Imo of course.

UPDATE: Ben Tyner confirmed missing by Nicola Ranch - Merritt Herald
Satchie,
My post is MOO, as noted.

If the last sighting was @2, he was seen last seen riding out of the ranch. Moo
(Based on sighting @2 on horseback)

Ben Tyner managed the Nicola cattle ranch near Merritt and was last seen on Jan. 26., when rode out of the ranch on horseback, possibly to search for cattle in the surrounding hills.

Right, they identified Gunny by his brand, per MSM (link on first thread).
I assume NR staff thought he was sleeping late since his vehicle was at his house.
I can’t find info anyone at NR was concerned. Only msm articles he was not reported missing until Gunny was found/identified.

Did the RCMP say the truck and trailer didn’t move? Do you have a link for that because I’m unable to find the source.

"We know of his whereabouts on Saturday night, so that gives us an extra day," Dunsmore explains.

I’ve noticed some media reports indicate Ben was last seen at the ranch at 2pm, then others say he was last seen riding on Jan 26th. Are both one and the same - he was last seen riding at 2pm? - I’m not so sure. For one thing different people who spoke to the media may have sighted him at different times or different places.

The RCMPs most recent press release refers only to “late January”.

“Investigators from the Southeast District Major Crime Unit (SED MCU) and Merritt RCMP have been working hard to determine what led to Ben Tyner’s sudden disappearance in late January.“

What the pieces are that don’t quite fit, we don’t know. It could be a witness “last seen” statement or it could be something else entirely. Lots of unanswered questions but I suppose LE doesn’t intend to disclose all they know while the investigation is still ongoing.

“Sometimes at the onset of an investigation there are pieces that don’t quite fit and while there is nothing definite, they warrant further investigation, says BC RCMP Media Relations Officer Sgt, Janelle Shoihet. Now having had the opportunity to review all the pieces, we believe that the circumstances surrounding Mr. Tyner’s disappearance may involve criminality.”

This article is from the latest update given by LE. March 20 when criminality mentioned. Here it says last seen as he rode out Jan 26, possibly to look for cattle.

Case of missing B.C. cowboy Ben Tyner 'may involve criminality': RCMP

Tyner, 32, was the manager of the Nicola Ranch, about 300 kilometres northeast of Vancouver. He was last seen on Jan. 26 as he rode out on horseback, possibly to search for cattle in the surrounding hills.

RCMP Sgt. Janelle Shoihet says officers are seeking any video footage, including sequences from dashboard-mounted cameras on vehicles passing through Merritt or the Nicola Valley between Friday, Jan. 25 and Sunday, Jan. 27.

RCMP in Merritt, B.C., seek dash-cam video in disappearance of cowboy Ben Tyner

Notice this article quotes Sgt Shoihet requesting dash cam video from Friday thru Sunday.

Reporting is all over the place.

Possible someone seen him at 2pm and then someone talked to him on phone / texted saturday night?

As I've mentioned before, there's only two MSM sources I trust in this case: the Merritt Herald and Global News, they were the only ones who assigned reporters to the story. Everyone else picked it up from the Canadian Press and often garbled it during hasty rewrites.

"Police say he was last seen on Saturday at 2 p.m., but it’s unknown when he rode into the backcountry or where he was heading."
"Teams from across province continue search for missing Merritt, B.C., cowboy

"Tyner was last seen on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., and was not working at the time, according to RCMP." UPDATE: Ben Tyner confirmed missing by Nicola Ranch - Merritt Herald
