''Shawnigan Lake RCMP have taken over the investigation of a missing 62-year-old Saanich after his vehicle was located in the Mill Bay area.

On Sunday, Saanich Police had issued a missing person alert for Bernard “Ben” Fournier who was last seen on April 16th.

Police had asked the public to be on the lookout for a 2004 brown/gold Ford Taurus owned by Fournier. He was believed to be travelling to Nanaimo.

On late Monday, Shawnigan Lake RCMP announced that they had taken over the investigation of Fournier’s disappearance. This came after Fournier’s vehicle was found in a parking lot in the Mill Bay area.

Fournier was last seen walking southbound on Mill Bay Road, and surveillance video has now confirmed that he was in the 2700-block of Mill Bay Road between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on April 16th.

Fournier is described as a Caucasian man with a medium build, standing 6 foot 1 inches tall and weighs about 196 pounds. He has short grey hair and was last seen wearing glasses, blue jeans, a grey/brown t-shirt, grey/black running shoes, and a dark coloured vest.

Police are concerned for Fournier’s well-being and say it is unusual for him to be out of contact with friends and family for so long, or to leave his vehicle unattended.

Anyone with any information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Shawnigan Lake RCMP at 250-743-5514''

Mill Bay is only a 28 minutes drive (38km) from where he started off in Saanich.

Interesting......

I wonder what made him decide to stop so soon after starting out?

His car was found in the "2700 block of Mill Bay Road" in Mill Bay. That seems likely that he parked in the Mill Bay Centre (a shopping centre/plaza). From there it is an easy walk to the small marina. Is it possible he got on a boat?

Also, although a huge longshot, a woman went missing on the same day. She landed at Victoria airport (in Saanich), on the same day that Ben went missing (i.e. April 16), to meet an 'online friend'.

Patricia Nzuza's thread is here:
CANADA - Canada- Patricia Nzuza, 55, from Ottawa, travelled to meet 'online friend'' in Vancouver, BC, last seen leaving airport on bus, Victoria,16 April '23

ETA: ignore my comment about Patricia. She's been found safe.
