I don't know any of these men but I am so utterly saddened for them and their families, and I am MAD. Seething actually. The depth of depravity on display sickens me. I knew it would be bad, but it's actually worse than what I thought.

"Police presented surveillance video, photo evidence, and DNA evidence during a sentencing hearing Monday for serial killer Bruce McArthur....

The statement of facts presented in court by Crown attorney Michael Cantlon detailed the lengthy investigation into McArthur, which began in June 2017 during Project PRISM – which was looking into the disappearance of Andrew Kinsman and Selim Esem.

McArthur’s defence lawyer agreed to these facts....

“Over the next few months, evidence mounted connecting Mr. McArthur to Mr. Kinsman’s disappearance,” the statement of facts reads...."

"Gruesome details of the 67-year-old's killings have been revealed in court on the first day of his sentencing.

McArthur pleaded guilty to eight counts of first-degree murder last week.

Monday's evidence was so disturbing that a prosecutor took the unusual step of warning the packed court that it could affect their mental health.

First-degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence, with no parole for 25 years.

The judge said the only thing he must decide is whether to sentence him to consecutive life sentences, or whether McArthur can serve eight life sentences concurrently.

Either way he will not leave prison before he is 91."

"Bruce McArthur's meticulous planning of murder, his methodical approach to the killings and the posing, photographing and retaining of personal items from his victims, reveal similar patterns of behaviour with certain types of serial killers, experts say....
Jooyoung Lee, a University of Toronto associate professor of sociology who specializes in serial killers, said McArthur's murders were similar to those of Dennis Rader, known as the BTK Killer, who was responsible for the deaths of 10 people in Witchita, Kan....

McArthur's ritual of restraining his victims, the careful planing and disposal of their bodies, his plotting to kill and cover up the evidence — all that is indicative of what criminologists describe as "organized killing," Lee said.

"You see a pattern of very well thought-out, calculated behaviour," he said. ...

Lee said posing is often done for the gratification of the killer, who gets a thrill out of controlling that situation.

"There's something tantalizing to serial killers about being able to totally control a person even in post-mortem. That behavior is something that reflects those underlying desires and urges to dominate and control a person," Lee said.

Arntfield said posing is "extraordinarily rare" and is almost unique to sexual serial killers.

Serial killers pose a body to enhance public shock, meaning they want the bodies to be discovered that way, he said. Or a pose can be used as a stand-in for fantasy vignettes that often go back to the offender's formative years...."
