Teens building fort find human remains in Burnaby
Two 15-year-old boys building a fort on the side of Burnaby Mountain made a grisly discovery last week. On Thursday evening at about 6:30 p.m., police got a call from one of the boys and his mother, saying they believed they had discovered human remains in a forested area north of Forest Grove Park, according to Burnaby RCMP. [...] The integrated forensic identification service responded and confirmed the discovery of “skeletal human remains,” police said. [...] Neither police nor the B.C. Coroners Service would say anything about the identity of the remains or how long they had been there.

I hope this is just a case of a historic burial being accidentally disturbed. No idea how 'buried' these remains were but the picture looks like they're digging deep. Regardless, there are a surprising number of people missing from the Burnaby area (not even counting the surrounding areas like Vancouver and Surrey).
-missing First Nations woman, last seen Dec 23, 2019
-another missing Indigenous woman, last seen January 12, 2020 (looks to be wearing hospital pajamas)
-missing 21 y/o black male, last seen prior to Dec 17, 2019 (cant find exact date)
-missing 53 y/o white male, last seen June 20, 2015
-missing 24 y/o white female, last seen Nov 18, 2017 (might have been spotted since)
-also adding this elderly Asian male w/ dementia last seen Sept 18, 2013, technically missing from Coquitlum but the map of searched areas seems to include the bottom of Burnaby Mountain.

Human bones found in Burnaby could be linked to 2015 found remains | Vancouver Sun
In March 2015, a man went missing in Burnaby. His partial remains were found later that year near Forest Grove Park. Investigators at the time said his death was not deemed suspicious.“Through forensic analysis, police are currently investigating as to whether the remains located last weekend are linked to this same case,” said police in an update. The B.C. Coroners Service is also continuing with its own fact-finding investigation to determine how, where, when and by what means the individual died.

So, I guess theyre suggesting that these remains are partial and match the body parts not found in the 2015 case? Maybe animal activity had scattered them in 2015 since I believe both sets of remains were found nearby? I couldn't find any information about the man partially found in 2015.

Last summer when I was home in B.C this story caught my attention because years ago two 15 year old boys found my brothers partial remains on the north side of BBY. Mountain ( a lower jaw bone). Nothing else was ever found and I never did hear how this latest discovery panned out.

Hi @Janieg , welcome to Websleuths! I assume you're the sister of Kenneth McArthur? I read your article in the VS - I'm very sorry for your loss :( I hope you and your family can find more information!
I can't find anymore information about this partial set of remains either, other than it could be from a 2015 missing person (I also can't find who that missing person was- I'm wondering if family requested that articles be scrubbed from online after they found their partial remains). It's possible that they've already identified this person, or they're still working on it (I know covid slowed a lot of coroner work down).
I will reach out to the coroner's office and ask if this case is still open :) I will post when I get a response!

Hi @Janieg , I got a response for you :)
"This email is to confirm that the remains found in Burnaby, or any other location, are not associated with the remains of Mr. Kenneth McArthur. We have his sister DNA in our database and it is automatically compared with all remains entered ( past, present and future entries). If there are an association in the future, his sister will be notified immediately."
They did not confirm about the status of this case, so I am assuming it's still open.
