There is a traffic camera operated by Ontario Ministry of Transport at the exit of the 417 to Casselman. I suspect that LE would have immediately reviewed the camera tapes given the proximity to the meeting with the farmer. I wonder if they spotted something on the tapes as CB was found relatively close to that intersection which then triggered a decision to use drones in that area. As others have said, it is a moot point but interesting to speculate on the sequence of events.
I thought I read that when they got the call from the farmer they went to the farm and launched the drone from there.
I think Mom told them exactly what she had done but couldn’t remember where.

I think this is also likely.

She may have been telling them for days and was dismissed as “nattering”
Didn’t one investigator say in one interview that “she talks a lot but doesn’t say much”?

I wonder if the officers had tunnel vision that she was lying about everything and therefore did not take anything she said seriously?

I know there are calls for an inquiry from some public figures including the mother of the Carpentier sisters. There was an inquest of the SQ after Romy and Norah’s tragic disappearances and death and there were a whole bunch of recommendations that the SQ was supposed to have implemented. Some were in CB’s case but I think there will be calls for changes to the alert system regarding vulnerable disappearances

not everyone celebrates their birthdays - I have a huge supportive family but I spend my birthdays quietly and barely notice what date it is and prefer it that way ...
Oh same I don’t celebrate mine either.

But I remember at the beginning there was confusion as to when the last contact with the mother was and all they had was the father dropping off CB at 9:30am Saturday morning (mom’s birthday) and then they were asking for help in the timeline.
They subsequently were able to verify through cctv at mom’s condo that she left with CB on Sunday morning.
But I thought it was strange that on mom’s birthday they couldn’t verify any contact with mom.
I don’t celebrate my birthday at all but I do get and respond to texts and phone calls and well wishes from others.
Maybe the mom did as well but it was just something that stood out to me

I agree with not publishing her picture - especially the one taken of her in the back of the police car yesterday.

But this case is far from over. There will presumably be charges and a possible trial. There will certainly be follow up to this case. Maybe even an inquest

So I think it will be impossible to never mention her name again. Just the notoriety of the case being spread around the world. It’s impossible to erase this case from history. It is a spectacular case of hope and survival
I hope someday two decades from now, I'll come across a "where are they now?"-type of story and find out how well her life turned out.

That's fair. I had forgotten at the time of my post that the belt between Ottawa and Cornwall is largely Francophone.
Whenever my partner and I travel between Toronto and Montréal, we enjoy seeing a cross-section of the landscape. The big break, in terms of the landscape and the architecture of homes and the like, comes not at the Ontario-Québec border but rather further west, between Kingston and Cornwall.

I think it is possible she was not telling a coherent story. A psychotic break could produce a decided disruption in her ability to recall things in the proper order, or even to remember them at all.

I don’t understand why neither side have requested any psychiatric evaluation

It's far, far too early. It's still in the hands of the police, and police don't care about psych evaluations. Once the evidence is all collected and handed over to the prosecution, they will decide what charges to lay.

Then, after several months, when the dust has settled for the accused, it may be possible that both or either side might order psych evals. Those will be conducted by experienced professionals who will familiarize themselves with all the details of the case, any intermediate treatment responses, as well as calm interviews with the accused.

These are not decisions made in a panic.

If the mother already has a psychiatric diagnosis (I don't know if she does or not, to be clear), there may not be a lot of benefit to doing another evaluation.

But wouldn’t it make the difference between in keeping her incarcerated right now in let’s say Pinel where she can get treatment instead of a regular detention center?

I'm so happy for Dad but he will sure have a hard time ever letting CB out of his sight again.

Yes, I think the people who run the jails have doctors that assess and treat inmates as patients and it may play a part in bail.

I was thinking more of a forensic psychological evaluation, which determines their state of mind when the crime was committed.

Just catching up on this case, and I'm so, so glad she was found safe!!

Poor dog. I wish an animal cruelty/neglect/abandonment charge could be added.

Bail denied.

Montreal mother accused of abandoning toddler denied bail, cries in court

Upon entering the courtroom Friday morning, she calmly sat in silence and occasionally glanced at the crowd. She wore a grey sweater, her long brown hair tucked behind her ears. At times, she kept her gaze focused on her lap but as the judge read his decision, she cried and wiped away tears.

The accused is expected to undergo the psychiatric evaluation within the next month. The next court date is set for Aug. 8.

I believe the eval is warranted and wish nothing but the best for CB moving forward. I hope the mother gets the help she so clearly (to me) needs

The mother of the girl found alive in June after a frantic search will go to trial next week.

*****
The psychiatrist will be called to testify at the trial, which will be held on Monday, Sept. 15. The contents of the psychiatric evaluation have been sealed until the trial.

But the prosecution and the defence said they disagreed over the interpretation of the findings in the evaluation.

*****
The mother will remain detained at the Institut national de psychiatrie légale Philippe-Pinel until the trial.
