McNeil and Waechter were two of five people found by police in a large detached garage on First Avenue in Cambridge. Inside was 323 grams of heroin, 12 grams of meth and some marijuana. The total value of the drugs was as high as $98,000.

Two of the people found in the garage, a woman and a man, wound up dying of drug overdoses, Bain said in an interview. One died in December 2016 and one this spring.

Heighton said in an interview he was "surprised" by the indignity charge.

"She made a statement to the police that was mostly exculpatory (free from blame or guilt)," he said. "It looks like it's definitely a matter that's going to trial."

"I don't know that there will be a charge," Heighton said. "I know homicide detectives are dealing with it with an abundance of caution. I think it's going to depend on toxicology and that sort of thing.
