Very sad. Reading between the lines and noticing CWs facial tattoos, total speculation but I wonder if he was recently released from prison and was ready to start a new life but a prior affiliation to a gang didn’t allow him freedom of choice. —-

“Westcott moved to Nelson to be closer to his mother and sister, and to get a fresh start in life, Zacher says.

“He was trying to find his place here, find where he wanted to be. He attended church here. He had signed up for a church group just recently. He was very much a Christian. He couldn’t eat unless he prayed and blessed his food. He was a strong believer in God.”

Westcott was doing odd jobs but otherwise had not found work in Nelson.

“He actually wanted to find investors and and start a facility for drug users and addicts, because that was something very close to his heart. He just wanted to make a change in the world in that direction.”

She said her son had problems with drugs years ago.

“He was doing really well now and he was healthy. He attended the gym every day. He had plans for his future.”.....”

RSBM - Yeah, this is not looking good for Corey. I'd love to hear more from the friend he visited with on 31 Aug. :)

Snipped

...went to visit a friend on Aug. 31. She says the friend has since told police that yes, Westcott was there, but he left the same night.

Police found his truck, a grey 2007 Toyota Tundra crew cab pickup with the keys still in it, parked by the Kootenay Canal and sent a dive team out.

“And there was no sign of him there,” says Zacher. “In my heart, I don’t think he is there.”

Zacher says she keeps asking questions and “I have found out more and more details every time I talk to people. And so I believe the truth will come out at some point. But I don’t think my son ever was where his truck was.”

''Westcott, who moved to Nelson from Vancouver last summer, went to visit a friend on Aug. 31. She says the friend has since told police that yes, Westcott was there, but he left the same night.

The morning of Sept. 1, Zacher, a rural Nelson resident, says she woke up worried about Westcott but didn’t know why. She tried to contact him, but with no response.

Over the next few days, some of his friends told her they hadn’t seen him since Aug. 31 and that he had been missing appointments. “That’s not like him,” his mother says.

Police found his truck, a grey 2007 Toyota Tundra crew cab pickup with the keys still in it, parked by the Kootenay Canal and sent a dive team out.''

He actually wanted to find investors and and start a facility for drug users and addicts, because that was something very close to his heart. He just wanted to make a change in the world in that direction.”
“He was doing really well now and he was healthy. He attended the gym every day. He had plans for his future.”

Zacher says she enjoyed her son’s company.

“My son is a character. He has a very good sense of humour. He likes to joke. But he also had a heart of gold. If he saw you down the street and you looked like you needed something, he’d be the first one to offer you $5 if you needed it. He was very, very good-hearted.”

''Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Cory Westcott is asked to contact the Nelson Police Department at 250-354-3919 or Zacher at 250-801-8892.''

As the search for a missing Nelson area man enters its third month, police continue to investigate the disappearance a Nelson Police media release said Thursday.

Cory Westcott, 34, was last seen leaving his residence in the Bonnington area in the early hours of September 1, 2020.

Police said Westcott’s truck was located at the bottom of the Rover Creek Forest Service Road in Blewett few days later.

“The Nelson Police Department is requesting that anyone who saw or heard anything out of the ordinary in those areas, on those days, to contact them,” said the NPD media release.

“Investigators are also requesting that the public check the area around their properties for anything that looks out of place and are seeking to speak with anyone that had contact with Mr. Westcott in the 48 hours leading up to August 31, 2020.”

According to a source, the truck was located in the opposite direction he would have normally taken to drive home from this "friend"'s home.

Westcott was a man of contradictions. Though he suffered from addictions, he was committed to beating them and setting up an addiction treatment centre in the Nelson area. His appearance belied his personality: his friends say he was a generous and friendly man with a strong Christian faith, but his size, extreme tattoos and forthright opinions sometimes intimidated people.

The Nelson Police Department says the case is still under investigation and calls the disappearance “suspicious.” Westcott’s mother Dee Zacher has taken several search parties out into the rural area in which he was last seen, and she has maintained a Facebook group asking for tips and clues.

Zacher believes there are people who know what happened to her son but who are staying silent, and she wants to know why.

Looking for answers

By asking around, Warren and Nillo concluded that Westcott was last seen when he left the home of Bonnington resident Isaac Roberts on the night of Aug. 31, 2020.

A few days after he was reported missing, the police contacted Warren to say her pickup truck had been found with the keys in it, abandoned on Rover Creek Road near the Kootenay Canal.

The pickup was registered in Warren’s name but was being used that summer by Westcott. Warren and Westcott had been in a relationship for a year until about three weeks previously. She says they were still friends who texted each other every day.

Cory Westcott disappeared in the Nelson area in the summer of 2020. Photo: Submitted

''From his teenage years until his disappearance, according to Zacher, Westcott had many jobs including bartender, bouncer, oilfield worker, jewelry maker, construction worker and sawmill worker. He also went to theatre school briefly. He was trying to find his niche in the world, his mother says.
She thinks her son’s addiction started when he was given morphine after dental surgery. She was concerned and discussed addiction with him, but he shrugged it off as temporary pain relief.''

''By asking around, Warren and Nillo concluded that Westcott was last seen when he left the home of Bonnington resident Isaac Roberts on the night of Aug. 31, 2020.
A few days after he was reported missing, the police contacted Warren to say her pickup truck had been found with the keys in it, abandoned on Rover Creek Road near the Kootenay Canal.''
