Americans shocked Canada now has more COVID-19 cases per capita
''In Canada, where the per-capita rate of new COVID-19 cases now exceeds that in the U.S. for the first time, people are getting a first-hand sense of what life south of the border was like in 2020.

Canada's most populous province is “on its heels,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford said Friday as he extended a provincial stay-at-home order, restricted outdoor gatherings and shuttered recreational facilities, including sports fields and golf courses.''

“I'm not really sure what's holding up things in Canada,” said Jacques Page, a D.C. accountant fresh off his first dose of Pfizer's vaccine.

“I was under the impression they would likely be doing better than we were.”

Ford government asking foreign diplomats if their countries can send Ontario COVID-19 vaccines
''A spokesperson for the Ontario government says that Premier Doug Ford has started reaching out to international allies in an effort to secure more COVID-19 vaccines.

“While we wait for a federal decision on the lowering of the age limit for AstraZeneca, and in response to the latest cut in Moderna shipments, the Premier has begun reaching out to consulates to try and secure more vaccine supply for Ontario from our international allies,” the government said in a statement issued Sunday.

The provincial government has maintained that its vaccination rollout has been hampered by federal supply issues since it began administering shots in December.''

IMO Ford is trespassing on federal jurisdiction, it's not his job to work with foreign countries to arrange his own vax supplies, or request international aid.

It was his job as premier to manage the public health rules in his province, but he chose to open up very quickly, when strongly advised not to. IMO he's now trying to divert attention from that.

On Feb. 16th he "defended the lifting of a stay-at-home order for most of Ontario on Tuesday amid warnings it could lead to a third wave of COVID-19."

British Columbia and Ontario will expand COVID-19 vaccine eligibility in the coming week.

B.C. said Sunday that it's inviting people 18 years and older to register for a COVID-19 vaccine over the next week.

A Ministry of Health statement on Sunday says more than 1.8 million people will now be invited to register for their COVID-19 vaccine through the province's Get Vaccinated program.

The ministry says the registration program starts Monday with people 40 years and older asked to sign up first, with those 35 and older registering Tuesday. It said the registration program will continue through Wednesday for those 30 and older, Thursday for those 25 and older and Friday for people 18 years and older.

Also Sunday, Ontario said it will start offering the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine to those 40 and over starting on Tuesday. The previous age cutoff was 55.

Also Alberta will be offering to ages 40 and up:

Both Ontario and Alberta say they will be administering AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines to people age 40 and over.

In a statement Sunday afternoon, a spokesperson for Ontario’s Health Minister Christine Elliott said that, “based on current supply,” pharmacies and primary care settings in the province would be offering the vaccines to the now larger age group starting Tuesday.

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said in an announcement to Twitter Sunday evening that his province will also be giving shots of AstraZeneca’s vaccine to people over 40.

I guess the lowered age eligibility means our prime minister should be publicly receiving his vaccination? (This article is from back in December)

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will receive the Covid-19 shot in public once those in his age group are in line to be vaccinated, he said in an interview broadcast Sunday.

Canada began vaccinating people in high-risk categories -- including frontline health care workers and residents and staff of long-term care facilities -- on December 14, with a relatively limited supply of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

"Absolutely," Trudeau told the CBC public network in a year-end interview. "When my turn comes, I will do it publicly and enthusiastically."

Trudeau added that he would follow the recommendations of public health experts.

"Whenever, you know, healthy adults in their 40s are open to getting vaccines, I'll be getting vaccinated," said the prime minister, who turns 49 on Christmas Day, December 25.
