^^^^ well, if there was no vaccine, it would be a big problem but with most people getting a lower viral load and thus not having to be hospitalized, it may not be so bad.

Once COVID has been declared endemic most of us will get it at least once, maybe more.

IMO, there will be booster shots in the fall just as there are flu shots.

It seems that most of the really sick people are either partially or not vaccinated. Hasn’t been made official here yet but it has in Europe/Great Britain etc.
I read an article just yest which said the Delta variant's viral load has 1000% more viral load than the 'original' covid. Here are a couple of links, but there are many.

Delta also has a 1000% more viral load.

COVID-19 Infections Appearing in Vaccinated People
-----
Now, a new study sheds light as to just how big of a threat the delta mutation is. According to a recent paper under peer review, scientists found the delta strain is 225% more transmissible than the original SARs-CoV-2. In terms of severity, Dr. Amy Beth Kressel, an infectious disease specialist at Eskenazi Health, says those infected with the Delta mutation carry — on average — 1,000 times more viral load.

“This means that every time someone who is infected breathes out, there is 1,000 times more virus [particles] in the air compared to the original strain,” Kressel told News 8. “This may affect severity. If you breathe in more virus, you may get sicker than if you breathed in less. So there is a lot of debate about what is going on with COVID. But clearly it’s more easy to spread. Additionally, people may be making others more sick at an earlier stage in the illness. It might be a day earlier than the original COVID.”

I'm feeling weak-brained today.. why was AB at 70% in mid June, but now at end of July, they are only at 64% vaxed with first shots? Is it because they are now including 12-17 year olds in the numbers?

In May, 2021, anyone over the age of 12 was eligible for a vaccine.

"Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announced on Wednesday that the province’s vaccine rollout will expand to include anyone over the age of 12 years old by May 10."
Alberta to begin booking COVID-19 vaccines for people ages 12+ by May 10 | Globalnews.ca

In mid-June, the Alberta gov't said that 70% of eligible people had received one shot of the vaccine. (link upthread)

Today, Alberta Health states that 46% of thee population are not fully vaccinated (which implicitly means eligible people). That means that 54% have received one shot.

"Of Alberta's total population, 35.8 per cent of people still haven't received a single vaccine shot (25 per cent of those eligible) and 45.7 per cent aren't fully vaccinated, according to Alberta Health." (link upthread)

Conclusion? The Alberta gov't must have falsely claimed that 70% of eligible people were vaccinated with one shot to justify dropping all restrictions. As a result, I think that Alberta is looking at a big surge in cases in the next couple of weeks.

There's a big difference between 70% or more of the population vaccinated once and 54% vaccinated once.

I wonder why the news reporters don't clue into these massive discrepancies and ask for explanations and hold these people accountable who are telling us these statistics??

That's a good question. I can't be the only person looking at the numbers and wondering why it doesn't make sense.

Alberta plans to drop covid isolation requirement.

"The most significant changes will happen Aug. 16, in Phase 2, when isolation following a positive test will no longer be required.

Isolation in that situation, however, will be "strongly recommended," the release says. People with symptoms of any respiratory infection should still stay home until symptoms are gone."

This shows percentage vaxxed by age. Maybe the discrepancy was an error where someone used a certain age range instead of total?
Yes, very strange.. see bottom two rows of this chart included in your link quoted above. It has one number (seems approx 75%) had one-vax including ages 12 and over, but yet the final line in the graph shows 'all ages' had only 65% with one vax. Wouldn't 'all ages' be exactly the same as 12+, since it seems nobody under age 12 is legally allowed to be vaccinated? And even if they were (say during testing for younger than age 12 age groups), that should have made for a higher number for 'all ages', rather than a lower number? Just screwed up. Does anyone really know what's going on? Who are we counting on to record and decipher the numbers?

ETA nevermind. Brain not functioning yet today. So the bottom line includes the entire population, even though many are not eligible, so therefore, the kids under 12, which of course, brings the total percentage of population vaccinated down. But in the article quoted by otto, it seemed they were speaking about 'eligible' populations?

In Ontario, there are thousands of doses that will expire in 4 days.

there is talk of giving ‘seniors’ a third shot to use them up.

If we need a booster in the fall, I hope it’s not just to use up some vaccines that are expiring!

Why don’t they ship them to any country, like Australia, who have virtually no shots for their population?

the flight is 24 hrs and in Oz they could have it all set up and ready to go.

There are many poor countries that could use Moderna shots as well.

Opinion: it’s a moral and bio-ethical lapse to just let them expire. So very wrong.

“We're going to use every tool we have to avoid wastage, but the reality is that we're going to see some wastage starting Aug. 6.”

But the national wastage rate so far has been “very minimal and far below initial estimates," according to the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).

As of July 12, less than 0.05 per cent of total doses delivered by the federal government have been wasted, PHAC told Global News.

COVID-19 vaccine wastage concerns in Canada as Moderna doses expire this week

^^^PHAC can spin it any way they like. Those figures are in the article I read too.

Canada purchased 5X the vaccines needed for our population and with the delays etc, it was probably a good idea to over estimate.

I remember well the Hunger Games to get vaccinated.

That does not absolve the powers that be from wasting doses that could/should be used elsewhere. So very wrong.

I hope answers will be provided.

"Federal Health Minister Patty Hajdu has sent a letter to her Alberta counterpart saying she shares concerns about the province's plan to lift all of its COVID-19 health restrictions. ...

In Hajdu's letter, which was sent on Sunday, she says recent modelling for Alberta forecasts a more serious resurgence in COVID-19 cases fuelled by the delta variant and that all governments need to take reasonable steps to protect Canadians.

"It is now incumbent on all governments across Canada to exercise caution and vigilance, to keep everyone safe in our jurisdictions and neighbouring ones as well," she wrote.

Hajdu says she wants to better understand the science and rationale behind Alberta's decision."
