The two weeks quarantine rule for international travellers has been in place since March. Sadly, because a small percentage of people think the rules don't apply to them, it will very likely spread.

Recently, a person flew from Toronto to the small Nova Scotian historic town where I now live.

They didn’t isolate when they arrived here. Instead, they went to the supermarket 3 days in a row (?!) and to a book store/wine bar etc. until they developed symptoms. They’ve infected 4 people so far (no one is in hospital). They didn’t wear a mask.

Because of them, about 150+ people had to quarantine and be tested. And the supermarket now has a security guard, who enforces the mask and other COVID rules.

I think a lot of people have difficulty with the idea that they are sick and contagious for 5 -14 days before they experience symptoms. There's also those who know they are sick, but because symptoms are minor they ignore quarantine.

Just listening to the news that some provinces want to provide one dose of the vaccine rather than two. One dose provides 80% protection, two doses provide 95% protection. I'm not sure what to make of provincial governments that want to modify medical advice - doesn't seem like a good idea.

IMO it's arrogant .... whether it is a provincial government or a General .... neither have the expertise ....

This is the opinion and advice also of Scott Gottlieb, former director/commissioner of the FDA in the U.S. He says that if the goal is to save lives, then we should vaccinate as many people as possible with the first dose of the vaccine, and not hold back doses in reserve for the second dose, as there should be enough doses manufactured in the new year to allow for the second doses. Scott Gottlieb is a highly respected public health figure, and he sits on the board of Pfizer, and doesn't think there will be any manufacturing problem to get enough of the second doses - so we shouldn't have . Anyway, just food for thought. I don't think he would advise elected officials to make these decisions on their own, but if asked his opinion as a public health expert, this is the direction that he would advise that the federal government take. Leaving doses sitting on the shelf for three weeks while Covid is surging is something that he disagrees with.

Sadly, the Canadian government officials seem to be debating providing one dose, not the required two, because one dose is 80% effective. It sounds like sheer stupidity to me to monkey with the vaccination when so little is known. It's not the right time to cut corners.
