Found Deceased Canada - Dan Archbald, 37, & Ryan Daley, 43, Ucluelet, Bc, 16 May 2018

I think a rideshare, or a lift offered from the harbour by someone they knew or met in Ucluelet is possible, but as I’ve said before, hitch hiking really doesn’t sound odd to me, except for the huge bags they had.

What is odd, is that there have been no reported possible sightings after they left Ucluelet if they were hitching/ridesharing.

But if they’re going via the back roads/logging roads, and ahead of the summer busy season, there may not be many witnesses to see them. Those roads would likely be pretty empty. The main roads in and out of Tofino and Ucluelet are fairly well travelled, but on some of those back roads you can go long distances without seeing any other vehicles. Maybe a logging truck once in a while, if that.

It could be just as simple as they had flown out of a different port and didn’t have a vehicle available to them in Ucluelet. And Canadians, especially in smaller towns, tend to be trusting of other people. As strong young men and seasoned travellers, there’s no reason they’d think twice about hitchhiking. It’s not a high crime area. They may have just seen hitching a ride as the easiest way to get where they wanted to go, in the shortest time. Even if, financially, they didn’t have to hitchhike.
So finishing their trip up on a...well, devil may care, pirate vibe? Yeah, maybe..

If they wanted to go to the cabin in Jordan River that Daley owns (as family supposed they might be headed) it would be a circular and roundabout route to go to Victoria first. More direct to take the logging roads from Ucluelet to Jordan River (in which case they’d need to have a vehicle or hitchhike).

But the backroads take WAY longer than going the main roads route through Vic. I wonder if they had to go with whoever would be willing to take them and go whatever route would get them closer to their destination.

I don't think there's anything wrong with hitchhiking in this area. I do find it disconcerting though that one of the guys has a young family and didn't seem particularly concerned about getting in contact with them or rushing back to be with them after 8 weeks away. This is not what a normal family man does.

I wonder if they are operating slightly 'off the radar' in their business venture and either overstepped their bounds or decided to go underground.

Why wouldn't they secure a ride knowing they had all that stuff with them?

I spent some time on the Find Dan and Ryan page looking for some clarity but now I have even more questions. Maybe I missed these, anyone know? How long have Dan and Ryan been friends? Were they the only 2 on the trip? Wonder what going through Customs is like in Ucluelet...coming from Panama and all. When was the last time they contacted family??? ughhhhh! wheres my running around in circles emoji!?

My speculation is that they probably did, perhaps not all the way to wherever they were going (possibly Jordan River), but maybe somewhere along the way.

Mooring at Ucluelet maybe means they were planning as the Small Craft Marina as their base for their charter business...Maybe they were setting themselves up for competition???

But didn't one article say they called a friend but she couldn't come? That would suggest there was no previous arrangement.

I agree. I think, possibly, sailing all the way from Panama in 8 weeks was a pretty daring and demanding trip, and in comparison, arranging transport from Ucluelet might have seemed an unimportant detail: oh, we'll work it out when we get there.

But instead maybe it was a their undoing. Possibly in order to make it work out they did something that later turned out to be risky: maybe took a dangerous route, or a dangerous vehicle, or accepted a ride with someone dodgy, it's a mystery.

I'm tending to think 'hitch-hiking' in this case meant arranging a ride, rather than literally standing by the road with their thumbs out.

My first thought was that they may have interrupted a theft at Ryan Daley's house which he had offered on Craigslist along with his Porsche, etc.

I know the ad on Craigslist was from 2011 however the house and car and tools show on the internet could have enticed a thief/thieves. Even though it's from 2011, it can still be found on the internet.

Obviously my thought was wrong because the police would have checked his house immediately and there has been no evidence of anything like that.

Perhaps they are in the wilderness and they are stuck somewhere or one of them is hurt. Try as I might, I can't lower my level of hope (I know you all know what that is like!)

Fortunately it's been good weather, I think there's still hope they'll be found somewhere in the wilderness between Port Alberni and Port Renfrew.

Wife fears foul play in mysterious case of men who vanished in Ucluelet

“My feelings at this time are that there's definitely foul play involved and that they are no longer with us, because if Dan could, he would be in our lives somehow. He loves his daughters and he would be here if he could be," Bliss told CTV News Monday. "I can't believe that there would be any way he wouldn't have made contact with someone if he hadn't been killed, or was being held somewhere against his will."

She said family has heard of no new leads save the discovery of articles of clothing and a pill bottle that could belong to Dan.

"We've searched the area where those things were found extensively," she said. "Police searched with dogs and our team of helpers searched it extensively and we found absolutely nothing."”

Also, the craigslist ad from 2011 was his home in Squamish over on the mainland. Jordan River sounds like just 3 acres of land, no real house maybe a cabin or an RV? I keep thinking they will just walk out of the bush at some point, just can't imagine something happening to them in Ucluelet.

Thank you for this news article, sjm_qc.

( Bolding by me) Quote from above article:
