''Edmonton police say they found human remains northeast of the city believed to be those of an unreported missing woman.
The Edmonton Police Service says the remains were found in the area northeast of the Evergreen Trailer Park, south of Manning Drive.
In a news release Thursday, police did not say when the remains were found or under what circumstances “for investigative reasons.”
Work is underway with a forensic anthropologist and the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office to identify the woman and determine the cause and manner of death.
Homicide detectives and the missing persons unit are investigating. They are asking residents and landowners in the area to contact police if they noticed any suspicious activity over the past year.
“We have already spoken to community members regarding suspicious activity in the area,” Acting Staff Sgt. Jared Buhler said in the news release. “That being said, we are hopeful this news release will assist us in reaching additional residents, landowners or others who may travel in this area and noticed something suspicious or unusual.”
