The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance with locating a missing 59-year-old male, Eduardo Balaquit. He was last seen on Monday, June 4, 2018, at approximately 6:00 p.m. in the Amber Trails area.

Eduardo is approximately 5'4" in height, 155 lbs in weight and has a medium build. He is Asian in appearance and has black hair/brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black zip-up sweater, black pants and black shoes.

Members of the Homicide Unit have been assigned to the investigation. It is believed that Eduardo had been in the 300 block of Keewatin Street on Monday, June 4, 2018, between the hours of 6 and 9 p.m. He may have been in a grey/silver 2012 Dodge Caravan.

The Winnipeg Police Service is asking anyone with information regarding Mr. Balaquit’s whereabouts to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit at 204-986-6508 or Crimestoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

We are also asking any businesses or individuals to contact investigators at 204-986-6508 if they have video surveillance in or around the 300 block of Keewatin Street and have not yet spoken with police.

According to local news, he had worked as a cleaner for that company for 20 years. The company found a note threatening the company and the alarm was off and not reset as Eduardo would normally do. They have hired private security.

Eduardo Balaquit, 59, disappeared on June 4th, 2018 in Winnipeg Manitoba, shortly after leaving for work on the 300 block of Keewatin Street. His van was found abandoned in an empty parking lot the next day, with a window smashed in and his cellphone inside.

When his boss arrived the next morning, the door was locked but the alarm was still disabled. He didn't think anything of it at first, but when he saw that the building was only partially cleaned and the lights were still on, he got worried.

Eduardo Balaquit is a loving father and husband who needs help finding his way back home. His family believes that he may still be alive. The investigation is on-going with one possible lead from a man who claims he "might" have seen him that night. Balaquit's family is asking anyone who has seen him to contact family at 204-298-5171 or 204-510-5170.

“The Winnipeg Police Service’s homicide unit has taken over as the primary investigators into a missing persons case.

Eduardo Balaquit, 59, was providing cleaning services at a Keewatin Street business on Monday night before he went missing.

His vehicle was discovered nearby Tuesday with windows smashed, according to family.

Now his family is searching for answers.

“He never had any trouble with anyone, he just worked and came home,” said his son Edward Balaquit.

“Everyone we spoke with at his work said the same thing. Worked with him for 10 years, 20 years, never was an issue. Never fought with anyone. never argued with anyone. We just want to see him get home."

“He's hardworking. Puts us first. He barely has time and he always makes time for us,” said his other son Erwin.

“Everyone knows he's friendly. He talks to everyone. I don't know what else to say. “It just doesn't make any sense.”

"We just want him back,” said Balaquit’s wife Luming.

Const. Jay Murray said it’s unusual for Balaquit to be out of contact from family for such a long period of time.

He said homicide investigators were brought in over some concerns with the case, but did not confirm Balaquit’s vehicle window was found smashed.

“Still looking. No leads yet. We just want to make sure every corner is looked at,” said son, Edward Balaquit Saturday from Inkster Industrial Park where volunteers were searching for Balaquit.

"You know, Father's Day was yesterday. It was a tough one. You see families walking around, you know, enjoying time. You get a little jealous that you had that," Edward said.

Although the police ground search has wrapped up, Balaquit's family and rural community members will continue to comb over farmlands and along gravel roads in hopes of finding signs of the 59-year-old who disappeared two weeks ago.

Edward said he understands the lack of information from investigators is caused by a desire to keep the investigation from going awry.
