CANADA Canada - Emma Fillipoff, 26, Victoria BC, 28 Nov 2012

My father told me that the police divers were in the water yesterday looking for Emma near Fisherman's Wharf.

Fisherman's Wharf is not directly across from The Empress, but, on the left side of the harbour, if you are looking out from the Empress.

I wonder if they had a tip or video that she was in that area, because, it is a heavy traffic and tourist area, and there are so many locations to search, it seems very, very odd they would be there in that basin to me, but, maybe with the constant ferry traffic, LE has determined that the currents would cause her to wash up there, if she is in there (which I hope she is not).

I really hope she isn't found in the water!!! It would be so great if she is just hiding out somewhere. My heart goes out to her poor mother, I just can't imagine the he** she is going through.

I'm confused (not a new state of being for billy tho ;))

Emma's car was found in Victoria, but she was believed to have been in a cab enroute to the airport up-island, but she got out somewhere, and it is now thought she could possibly be in the water near Fisherman's Wharf in Victoria (back near where her car was located).

Where did the cabbie pick her up and where did she supposedly get out of the cab, and how would she have gotten back south to Fisherman's Wharf without the cab or her car? I sure hope they check this cabbie out.

A couple of years ago, my granddaughter took a cab late at night. The cabbie suggested she could pay for her fare with sexual favours. Being a quick thinker, she said that she would have to pick up some cigarettes first, so he pulled in at a convenience store. She went in and the staff called police, but by the time they got there, the guy had disappeared and LE was not able to find out who he was.

Here is an article

Search for Emma Fillipoff spreads to the Inner Harbour

Victoria Police say the dive was an evidence search, and that nothing was recovered, however they will continue to exhaust all leads.

The article mentions she was last seen near the Empress hotel. I'm guessing that is Vancouver?

Some interesting comments on the fb page. One comment that she is to start a new job in Victoria on Feb 1st. Take it fwiw though. It's facebook afterall.

Not sure what to make of the cab ride to the airport. Where would she get the money? I know she got off before getting there but how did she pay for the cab? Maybe that's why she got off? She didn't have enough money?

When did this happen? Where was she let out?

Was car in undriveable condition, is that why she was trying to get to the airport in the cab?

Was she really just trying to start her way up island or get to the trail?

Did Emma have bush survival skills?

Honestly, I just don't know.how she could survive that long, unprotected in the wilderness. :(

Just my opinion but I think she was "running away" from her life. If she suffers from some sort of mental illness, perhaps in her mind, leaving her old life and starting anew would make things better? Sadly, without professional help and/or medication the results are not always positive and may make things worse.

I'm hoping she at least got refuge somewhere safe. Again, I wouldn't dismiss Emma perhaps travelling to another province. The cab ride to the airport was sort of a message that she wanted to escape, imo

Having no money may have dashed that fantasy. Maybe she decided to hitch hike instead which is frightening! I wonder if she even knows her mom and an entire province is looking for her.

When she's found, I hope she gets the help she needs. She is such a beautiful girl and I'm sure she has so much potential. It appears she is a very kind, loveable person. Her love of nature and caring for others is what this world needs.

Come home safe Emma! :please:

No. The Empress is directly across from Victoria Harbour.

Thanks for the video of the dive search.

That is interesting. LE says they are looking for"evidence" in the dive. The dive was at Fisherman's Wharf which is on the other side of the harbor from the Empress and Red Fish Blue Fish. It says she was known to hang out there.

There must be something specific they are looking for. That wharf is jammed packed with tourists and seals, all the time. Hmm

They are hoping she will come back to start her job on Feb.1st at Red Fish Blue Fish.

Mild observation here, but that's an unusual length of time between hiring and start date.

JMO, but she may have also been trying to get home for Christmas as a surprise to her family, and for some down time or regrouping before starting the new job in February.

IIRC, her mom indicated that Emma did have money. As for when and how much, we don't know??

Oh ok thanks. I thought her wallet was found in the vehicle.

Red Fish is a seasonal place, it's closed during Nov, Dec & Jan. Since she worked there last season, it sounds like she was to be re-hired when they open back up in Feb...

That's correct n/t, but iirc, her mom indicated she had money in the bank (i think it was in the article that talked about Emma having lived on the houseboat and ending her job the end of October).

Is there an article about Emma living on the houseboat? Was the houseboat at fishermans wharf?

WG, that's a very interesting question about where the houseboat may have been moored, and just might explain that search at Fisherman's Wharf. I originally questioned the houseboat accommodation because peeps don't usually terminate a tenancy in late fall or winter without alternate accommodation lined up .. only to end up having to utilize a shelter. I'm interested in when and who she roomed with there, and the circumstances that led to her leaving that particular accommodation.

Actually, considering her age, I think Emma is getting more law enforcement involvement than many other cases here in the US. Her mom is to be credited as well. It is not easy to get attention for a missing person over the age of twenty one for long.

In fact, it sounds like LE is being more vocal and active than what we've seen, on the surface at least, in Dylan Redwine's case, and he is thirteen, especially as they seem to believe she is missing voluntarily.

The idea that she has a job waiting is hopeful, a date to look forward to, if she is not located before then. Or at least, maybe she will make contact with her employers soon.
