Search continues for missing boater in Oakville
''Halton Regional Police (HRPS) say they are into day two of a search for an Oakville man who went missing in a boat on Lake Ontario Tuesday.

A joint search team involving vessels from Halton, Peel, Toronto and the coast guard and aircraft from Trenton will be out on the water again on Wednesday searching for 65-year-old Eric Quimby.

Police say Quimby left the Oakville Club Marina around 10:40 a.m. for a short sail towards
Stoney Creek.''

“Quimby is a skilled sailor with more than 30 years’ experience and makes this trip often,” Halton police said in a release prior to the start of a Wednesday morning search.

“Quimby is believed to be the only person on board the boat. The boat is equipped with a motor.”

''Anyone with information on Quimby’s whereabouts can reach out to Halton police at 905-825-4747 or 905-825-4777.''

Since Google Maps doesn't give "sailing" directions, the route is for a vehicle. I picked a random boat club in Stoney Creek, because I thought that Eric would want to put his boat somewhere while he was in Stoney Creek, but maybe he was just planning to sail to Stoney Creek and return right away. Rochester, NY is where only his boat was found.

Search for missing Oakville boater called off
''A massive search for a missing Oakville boater in Lake Ontario has been called off.

At around 7 p.m. on Thursday, members of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, which is operated by the Royal Canadian Air Force in Trenton, took to social media and announced that after searching 7,500 nautical miles over the past two days the coordination centre had made the difficult decision to turn the search for Eric Quimby, 65, over to Halton police as a missing person’s case.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this difficult time,” said Major Trevor Reid, senior public affairs officer with the 1st Canadian Air Division.''

“We are hopeful that evidence will surface which will allow us to locate Mr. Quimby, however, until such evidence is obtained, the file remains open as a missing person’s file,” said Const. Steve Elms, Halton police media relations officer.''

very sad

Unless i missed it somewhere, surprisingly, it seems like Mr Quimby is still not located.
Wondering if he is more likely to be found in Canadian or American waters?

I've read a little about sailing in past year. if you do not have a safety lead attached and you walk around the boat, it is easy to loose your balance and fall in water. Not sure if he was using hs sails or motor. They also will leave a rope off back trailing in the water to grab if you fall in so the boat does not get away from you. But this happens. Could be one of the possibilities in this scenario.

Bumping for Mr Quimby and hoping he is located soon.
