Canada - Ezekiel Stephan, 19 mos, dies of meningitis, 13 March 2012

I joined to post on this thread for anyone watching. I can tell you a lot more about this family, and other crimes committed by them. There are people who, as health professionals, social workers, clinicians, follow certain online activities and do mandatory reporting for child abuse. I'm one. This Canadian family owns a company called Truehope. They had a huge lawsuit and won in Canada. This part you can look up. They are part of a larger network of quacks but they are even more terrible than most. What Truehope does (the company owned by David Stephan's dad) is peddle vitamins, but they don't just sell them. What they do is when someone calls or has interest, because they say they can cure their bipolar, schizophrenia etc, they don't just sell them the vitamins. They continue calling any very mentally unwell people daily or weekly, what they do is malicious. They be-friend the family, make claims about how terrible medications are (and since psychiatric care is so destabilised and underfunded) they get them to trust them. Then they coach them off their meds. Canada became involved when a schizophrenic man was coached off his meds murdered his father and almost killed his mother. This got Canada's attention, they fought to take them down and lost. This family is connected to greater quack networks including antivax networks who are worth on the upwards of many millions if not billions of dollars. (For instance they hire their own scientists and run their own published study look alikes, but that's TMI right now).

David Stephan's mother was bipolar and she committed suicide. I believe that her husband (Stephan's father Anthony) was a sociopath and that carried to his son. As someone who is trained in this area, I can tell you that people who have a mood condition like bipolar are very vulnerable to these types of people, and often sociopathic types will seek out someone who is vulnerable in some way. This poor women did suicide, and the husband had a narcissistic injury from her loss. This is the god AWFUL truth you won't believe: He was talking to his neighbour, a pig farmer, who remarked, "when my pigs have behavioural fits, I give them this vitamin, and they stop acting up." There begins the journey of Truehope, pig vitamins sold to the mentally ill, prompting them to join them in their hatred of psychiatry. How many victims, is questionable, because when they suicide, and a family member tries to implicate them, they throw heavy tactics, threaten lawsuits, I am aware of this but cannot disclose any names to protect these people, as they are frightened by what this family might do to them.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/brit...er-tried-vitamin-therapy-court-told-1.1141861

Leeann Ramsay, the aunt of the accused, believes the family's attempt to control his illness with an alternative therapy rather than his psychiatrist's prescription had a role in his state of mind at the time of the killing.

"Jordan went into a psychotic state earlier in the day and was having delusions," Leeann Ramsay told CBC News on Tuesday.

"He thought that Don was an alien and had to go in and make sure he was dead."

The court heard that Ramsey has a long history of going off his anti-psychotic medicine and ending up in crisis.

The evidence shows that at the time of the murder he was off his prescription, and the only pills found at the crime scene were vitamin capsules.

The court heard months earlier a psychiatrist warned "Mr. Ramsay was trying to treat himself with Truehope multivitamins," and his parents were warned he was at risk of relapse if his dose were lowered.

But just two days before the murder, a North Vancouver nurse reported, "His mother stated she wanted him on Empower Plus vitamins, and she believed she had permission to reduce his medication."

Leeann Ramsay told CBC News that Jordan's grandmother had serious concerns about the alternative treatment as well.

"My mom had various conversations with them about Jordan weaning off his anti-psychotics and trying this alternative megavitamin therapy, and my mom was very much against it.

"She begged the mother not to decrease or stop the medication, and they were convinced this was going to be a cure."

Company defends vitamin treatment
The supplements are made by Truehope, which has had several clashes with Health Canada. But the company's operator says while it does not promise a cure, the vitamins can be effective in some cases.

"A number of people have used this protocol for schizophrenia and have been extremely successful," Truehope president Anthony Stephan told CBC News.

But Leeann Ramsay believes her brother would still be alive if his son had stuck with his prescribed medicine.

"If Jordan was properly medicated under a psychiatrists care, he'd be here today," she said.

Ramsay said her brother was a good father to Jordan.

"I want to warn people, I think it is just needless what happened and [Donald] was the kindest, most gentle person and his demise was not right."

Ramsay says people should be warned not to allow family members to go off medicine prescribed by a psychiatrist.

"This is a really serious disease and you have to be properly medicated and you can't mess around with alternative medicine," Ramsay said.

She also said she wants someone to investigate whether the vitamins played any role in her brother's death.

Jordan Ramsay's psychiatrist, Dr. Leanne Meldrum, testified Ramsay is fragile, in deteriorating mental health and will need long-term care in Coquitlam's Forensic Psychiatric Institute, where he currently is a patient, before he would ever be considered safe in the community.

His mother has been discharged from hospital but is still recovering from her extensive injuries.

This trial IS NOT about little Ezekial, this is about defending this company's illegal practices and the people who are trying to take them down! Now, we are on to their legal "expert" Anny Sauvageau. I would call her a doctor, but she doesn't have any licenses because of her latest testimony in both the Stephan trial and also little John Wyatt Clark, who Stephans sat through the trial - and for those paying attention, will note, Anny gave brutally dishonest testimony, this is because she is embroiled in other conspiracies. Anny Savaugeau, is a bright Canadian doctor (or she was) who studied auto-erotic deaths. She is a medical examiner. A medical examiner for instance takes a piece of a tumour, and will diagnose what it is. Now, she was approved for a job as a top Medical Examiner in Alberta, even though she was not a trained medical pathologist, this is training to diagnose and determine cause of death. Her appointment spurred controversy, since she wasn't really a pathologist, and in the Stephan trial, and Clark trial, she went up against two of her former employees, who coincidentally ARE trained medical pathologists, and both are immigrants to Canada. She has it out for them because they were trained for the job she took without qualifications, and they refused to renew her contract for being obviously unqualified to perform autopsies as Dr. Adeagbo is, who she went up against in the 2016 trial.

Anny Sauvageau refuses to renew her license to practice as an MD, as following the Clark trial, her dishonest and frankly ridiculous testimony as an expert witness, would prompt Canada medical board to revoke her license. She also has a huge lawsuit against her former employer, who happens to be the agency that performed the autopsies on both Ezekial Stephan, and John Wyatt Clark. After John's trial, her ridiculous testimony that the hospital killed John when he had not one, but two blackened feet that were rotting from a staph infection, has her now on the run from medical agencies. AND get THIS, she is again the Stephan's main paid defense doctor, who in the first trial, put up smoke and mirrors to Dr. Adeagbo's autopsy reports (he was her employee, who actually had training, and an immigrant, so she is angry his contract was renewed and not hers, he left the country to USA over this whole issue!). So to re-cap: Anny S was placed as top medical examiner, was the boss of both trained medical pathologists who did the autopsies on both Stephan and Clark, and is now unemployable, mad as hell, suing over the loss of her job. After she lost her contract, the Stephans noted her lawsuit against Alberta, called her, convinced her to be an expert witness at their trial, and tried to thread in her lawsuit claims as a conspiracy that was connected to the Stephans trial. Watching David try to tie in her claims was amazing (it was a totally different issue and had nothing to do with how well they performed autopsies at the office). And she believed after the first trial, she was still respectable. The when Jeromie and Jennifer Clark trial came up, Stephans convinced (gaslighted her probably like they do their Truehope patients) to again try to spin a web and place blame on the hospital for little John Clark's death. Now she is set to testify again with Stephans after this huge loss for Jeromie and Jennifer Clark was sentenced to prison! She now realises people no longer trust a word she says!

Anny Sauvageau « A. Picazo
Here’s what you need to know about Dr. Anny Sauvageau:

Her qualifications and credentials have come under scrutiny before. She is not board-certified or trained in forensic pathology, nor does she have license to practice medicine in Alberta.

She did not, at any point, examine the child and her nonsensical testimony and blatant misreading of the autopsy would have medical professionals calling for her to be stripped of her medical license — but she doesn’t have one.

There’s much, much more to write about the many players involved in this case, the multitude of conspiracy theories they’ve concocted regarding the trial and the case itself, and the trail of lies from all involved which, thanks to testimony from medical professionals and recorded police interviews, have been exposed as such.

For now, however, just be aware of what you’re being sold when you’re presented with other versions of this tragic story, and by whom.

David Stephan is a sociopath, him and his father are worth millions, yet they were playing around that they couldn't afford to pay for a defense, they didn't apply to have one, because they are too wealthy. They were even offering a 20 thousand dollar reward for any nurse or professional to come join their conspiracy making. Anny Savaugeau got looped into their mess, and her whole career is destroyed now after the Clark trial - AND she is set to be entered in as the defense as a medical expert! In the last trial, the judge allowed her to give certain testimony and not others, as her credentials did not allow her to diagnose or treat pediatric conditions, in fact, she didn't even have credentials to be a medical pathologist who performs autopsies, her specialty is in a peculiar area - auto-erotic asphyxiation. And she continues to work as a medical "specialist" in many trials, for and against the crown. She is a major, lying wench. And she's on the run now. Let's watch her performance. I can also post a link to the whole last Stephan trial and the debacle. After the Clark trial ended the way it did, she realises her credibility is sunk - all thanks to David Stephan and his pig vitamins.

Also, I believe Collet is being gaslighted by her narcissistic husband, and her testimony is a cry for help. She was trying to help her baby, but knew the family's history with the medical industry made her unable to get help. That's why she went to the naturopath, she wanted an "in" by someone David would accept as a peer. She had done that in the past, but this time David was tired after a long trip (these are the seminars that make the natural industry billions of dollars). When your husband is a sociopath/psychopath, you don't just say anything normal, she is obviously showing signs of distress as an abused spouse (this area is widely studied, and to note of interest for any followers, Jennifer Clark's family came on the Stephans's page after the verdict for the Clarks and outted how afraid they were of him, and that he had total control over her) ---- the page Prayers for Ezekial, is run by prominent anti vaccine, anti-allopathic medicine industry executives, they promptly deleted those posts, but I have them saved. She had to sit there and watch him agonising during his last breaths before she was allowed to call for medical help. Actually she didn't call, he did, when the baby stopped breathing. Note previous post where it was discussed how in pre-trial, David misunderstood he couldn't cross examine the pediatric abuse MD sent to examine the situation, as they both claimed they were representing themselves. He thought he could do it, then when the judge ruled she must do it, they had a break, where he screamed and then they paid for her to have an attorney. She is a classic case of spousal abuse, she never speaks. The reason the hospital even had an a responsibility to review the case, was because David was making the doctors infuse vitamin C per IV, as he said it would "cure" Ezekial after he was pronounced brain dead. David also forced the hospital to give IV infusions of various concoctions his dad made during that time. This part has been completely left out. These doctors probably would have left it alone due to their power to come after them. But they were infusing into his IV, special remedies that were made of vitamins and herbs. The hospital was being held hostage by the Stephan family, and as they are Canadian, have been politely confronting it. If this were any other area, David would have been thrown in prison after the first trial.

I HOPE Justice Terrance Clackson has reviewed his responsibilities carefully. There are so many children (and mothers) who count on his discretion.

After David is done with harassing Dr. Adeagbo, and pushing him to the edge, he will produce his former privileged, (less educated in medical pathology) boss. Since her career is over, it would be interesting to note how much she is actually being paid by the Stephans and their company Truehope. No doubt anyone looking to hire a pseudo-intellectual with former credentials will find her attractive. In their world, even bad attention is still attention. And they are too selfish to care. Dr. Adeagbo is a good man, and has put up with more than his share. He came to Canada as a professional in an area they were underserved, and Canadians used him as fodder in their disillusioned society.

And for anyone interested in the clinical disputes in this case: in the area of codes, if a person stops breathing, the emphasis is put on compressions, even stating that breathing or air matters less than chest compressions. Blood has the ability to carry oxygen to the brain for many minutes, as it's very saturated, so even if a heart stopped beating, breaths in CPR are less important than chest compressions to get the oxygen in the blood to the brain. Anyone trained as a paramedic, would focus on restarting the heart or pushing the blood along. Adding oxygen to in a dead person's body would do nothing. Shocking the heart would be the first step. The paramedics were handed a dead baby, and 8 minutes of drive time would have gotten them to a place they could use IV meds to restart the heart and IV solutions that would actually matter. You can't shock a dead baby and give max o2 to save them.

So, how reliable does it sound to compare pig tail and ear biting syndrome to that of a person with a history and diagnosis of mental illness? See, this is the beginning of a tale (tail?). Anthony Stephan is openly admitting this. The Stephan family are defending something indefensible. Anyone who would hear a story about a pig farmer helping a husband of a suicided wife to develop a line of vitamins that would treat a human brain, would immediately know something is wrong. When people's thinking become this distorted, there is a reason behind it.

https://blog.truehope.com/who-is-the-truehope-founder/

"Anthony Stephan’s wife, Debora, had bipolar disorder and took her own life in January of 1994. Debbie’s father had done the same sixteen years earlier.

A year later, two of Anthony’s children were diagnosed with the most severe form of bipolar. Both had been given a variety of heavy medications, and they experienced serious side effects. Anthony was afraid he’d soon lose another loved one to the grip of bipolar disorder.

For a year after his wife’s death, Anthony studied everything he could find that might save his children, Autumn and Joseph. When a specialist told him to give up and accept his children’s fate — that both would likely be ill, medicated, hospitalized, and possibly die young — Anthony refused to accept that he had no other options, so he started a new kind of search.

He believed that if there was something that could save his children, God knew what it was. He never stopped praying; he hoped God would hear his cries and have mercy on his family. When he least expected it, his answer came.

Anthony met David L. Hardy, who was well educated in biological sciences and who had spent 20 years as an animal feed specialist. Hardy said the behaviour of Anthony’s son, Joseph, sounded to him like the behaviour of a pig with ear-and-tail-biting syndrome. Hardy explained to him that some farmers had success with nutritional supplements to control the syndrome in their pigs.

Anthony immediately knew this was an answer to his prayer."

The firm grip of personal belief systems and freedom are joined with a system of justice in today's court cases about personal freedom and children (vaccination, medical care etc). Justice should serve to benefit people. I don't believe in hatred as an answer, and I totally understand a frustration regarding which direction to go when people are mentally unwell. The Stephans have a right to liberty and freedom - up until the point they are impacting someone's well-being that can't advocate for themselves.

Little Ezekial and John deserved a chance to be brought to a doctor, or many different doctors who could have easily helped a family with this kind of bias. It happens all the time, so doctors are well equipped to help a resistant family without it becoming a criminal dispute. As far as what the Stephans are doing with the people they sell their products to, Canada should stay firm in guidelines about alternative medicine labelling and advertisement. Sometimes a headline or news story about a court case is a really good way to warn people about the misinformation that's being peddled online, especially in regards to children.

So what is your connection to this family that you are so invested in this case? You just joined and are just non stop posting in this one thread. Have you just researched this case on your own or do you know the family or employees or something?

Stephan trial resumes with testimony from former Alberta medical examiner

Jul 29, 2019

"LETHBRIDGE, AB – A Court of Queen’s Bench trial for David and Collet Stephan that was originally scheduled to conclude at the end of June, continued in Lethbridge Monday, July 29....

The current trial, which began June 3, is judge-alone. The Crown’s case concluded weeks ago, and since then the Defense has been calling its own witnesses.

One of those witnesses testifying is former Alberta medical examiner Dr. Bamidele Agdeabo, who performed the autopsy on Ezekiel. He concluded that the child died of bacterial meningitis and a lung infection.

While on the stand Monday, he was asked by Collet’s lawyer Jason Demers to go through a subsequent 18-page report completed by another former Alberta medical examiner, questioning his findings and his conclusions.

Dr. Adeagbo told the court that Dr. Anny Sauvigeau’s report was “not the way medicine is practised,” and incorrect. Dr. Sauvigeau has previously testified that she believed Adeagbo’s conclusions were wrong.

Adeagbo’s testimony will continue Tuesday, then the trial will again recess until Aug. 7 when both the Crown and Defense will argue whether his testimony should be allowed into the trial, and whether he can be deemed an expert witness.

Sauvigeau is expected to testify between Aug. 26 and 29. There will still be closing arguments after that, and then future dates will be needed for Justice Clackson’s verdict, followed by possible sentencing arguments and dates."

Medical examiner concludes testimony

JULY 31, 2019

"After repeated adjournments followed by days of testimony, defence is finally done questioning one of the Crown’s key witnesses in a necessaries of life trial in Lethbridge.

David Stephan, who along with his wife Collet are charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life for their son, has been questioning former Alberta medical examiner Dr. Bamidele Adeagbo on and off since June. Adeagbo, who determined the Stephan’s toddler, Ezekiel, died of bacterial meningitis in March 2012, was testifying in a voir dire – a trial within a trial – to determine whether he can be qualified to give expert evidence in the trial.

Both sides are expected to present their arguments on the voir dire to Justice Terry Clackson when the trial resumes next Tuesday, not Wednesday as previously scheduled. If Adeagbo’s evidence is accepted, it will become part of the trial proper...

After lawyers have argued on the voir dire next week, the trial will be adjourned until the week of Aug. 26 when Anny Sauvageau, former Alberta chief medical examiner, is expected to testify for defence. The Crown and defence will provide closing arguments the same week."

Stephan trial hears arguments to determine admissibility of medical examiner’s testimony

Aug 06, 2019

"LETHBRIDGE, AB – Calling Dr. Bamidele Adeagbo’s testimony flippant and arrogant; at times defensive, rude, and unintelligible – Stephan Defense lawyer Ingrid Hess told Justice Terry Clackson those qualities are some of the concerns that should make his evidence inadmissible.

Adeagbo was the medical examiner who performed the autopsy on 19-month old Ezekiel after he died in March 2012. He concluded the child died from bacterial meningitis and a lung infection. Even though the autopsy was performed shortly after death, a final report was not completed for seven months.

The doctor, who now works in the U.S., has testified both via CCTV from Indiana, and in person in Lethbridge for a total of seven days. So far, his testimony has not been admitted into the trial proper.

Defense Arguments Against Admissibility

Hess, acting on behalf of Collet Stephan, told the court that trying to understand Adeagbo’s evidence and the way it was delivered made his testimony troubling....

David Stephan also briefly argued on his own behalf that he believed Adeagbo was writing a distorted history of his son’s illness and that created a distorted bias.

He told the judge reports were written with few of the medical files, and that he was not thorough in trying to obtain the toddler’s history prior to writing his reports....

On the subject of bias, Kristensen said there was no suggestion that the doctor’s opinion changed as a result of personal bias. He knew the Stephans may consider themselves sovereign, or fundamentalist Mormon, however that did not play into his medical diagnosis.

“He goes where science tells him,” said the Crown.

Justice Clackson will have his decision ready Aug. 26...."

Stephans’ necessaries of life trial adjourned to Aug. 26

AUGUST 7, 2019

Yet another adjournment followed legal arguments Tuesday in the necessaries of life case against David and Collet Stephan....

The new trial began in Lethbridge earlier this year, but the proceedings have taken much longer than initially expected. On Tuesday, lawyers for the Crown and the defence submitted conflicting arguments regarding the admissibility of evidence given earlier by medical examiner Dr. Bamidele Adeagbo.

Following hours of argument, David Stephan also spoke briefly.

No decision on the admissibility was reached.

The next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 26 in Lethbridge.

Stephans' necessaries of life trial adjourned to Aug. 26
