"In this dark time, I can say with certainty that the citizens of Fredericton were being exceptionally well served and that those that were killed this morning were taken very good care of," Leanne Fitch, chief of the Fredericton Police Force, said at an afternoon news conference."

How sad. At least seven children lost a parent, and there may be more.

I could never live in Canada. The censorship would drive me crazy.
Please, don’t. As a Canadian, this is very raw. I personally am feeling a lot of pain right now.

Nothing yet CARIIS. It will come. Still an active scene in terms of the Investigation. RCMP has taken lead. 50 residents not allowed back in their apts. Bullet casing still lay as they process and Investigate. I have been watching CBC and posting from what was said.

That is how crime is reported in my country. No one's name is released until they are charged with the crime, and there is only one official spokesperson. And yes, it is not censorship, it is being professional and getting the facts.
My sympathies to all Canadians.

CARIIS, I never know where you're going to pop up, but you’re always spot on. Thank you for being here.

These kinds of tragedies are handled differently in Canada than in the USA. We are a small enough country that we feel the sorrow together as a nation and allow the victims' families some privacy.

In Canada, the details of crimes are left for the trial, not media hysteria.

Yet there is such enjoyment of the "media hysteria" in the USA on this site.

I was just commenting on the truth of the situation and the differences between American and Canadian culture when it comes to crime reporting. I find it quite fascinating.

I was just commenting on the interest those from other countries have in our "media hysteria" as evidenced by their involvement in US cases on this site (since they are defending censorship in their own country and calling the USA unprofessional.) That's what I find fascinating. It makes no sense to me.

Number of people injured in Fredericton shooting remains unclear | CBC News

"It still isn't clear how many people were wounded and taken to hospital after a gunman opened fire in a residential neighbourhood in Fredericton Friday and killed two police officers and two civilians.

In a Saturday morning tweet, the Horizon Health Network said the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton had received one trauma patient and four fatalities after the shooting.

On Friday, Horizon Health said in a tweet that the hospital was "treating multiple victims of today's shooting."

In a separate tweet, the health agency asked the public to stay away from the emergency room unless necessary."

"RCMP issued a news release Friday evening asking the public for photos and videos of the shooting to assist the investigation. A link was provided for files to be uploaded anonymously.

Meanwhile, police officers from other agencies across the province will be patrolling the city in the coming days and weeks to provide some relief to the force."
