Family gets first real tip in decades in disappearance of Glenn Colombe

November 30, 2015

A Cross Lake family is hoping two recent tips into the disappearance of Glenn Colombe will finally give them a break in the 26-year-old case.

Colombe went missing in 1989 and RCMP suspect foul play.

"He was last seen at a party. That is where people said they last seen him," said Colombe's sister Lillian Halcrow,

Halcrow was in her 30s when her baby brother disappeared. He's the youngest of eight siblings.

"He wasn't the type who would start anything, like a fight," she said. "He was a kind young man, caring for others."

She believes her brother was murdered and said for 26 years, rumours have been swirling.
"They were saying this and that, too many stories, it was hard to know who to believe," she said.

But in late October, a secret came out over drinks.

Halcrow said her cousin was drinking with a man who said he knows where Colombe is buried — the old cemetery, close to where he was last seen.

"They know, but they just don't want to come forward," said Halcrow. "It's hard. We just want closure and lay him to rest, a proper burial."

Halcrow said after RCMP were told the new information. investigators flew into the community.

RCMP confirms officers were in Cross Lake, but wouldn't say why because it's an open case.

Halcrow said she didn't even know they were there until one of them found her at the Post Office.

"They were here for the day, we didn't even sit down at the table with my brother and my sisters," she said.

She said after RCMP left, her family set up a tent at the old cemetery where they think Glenn is buried. No official search has been done there.

She said their presence inspired another witness to break his silence.

"We were told that one person came forward that was actually there that night, at that party on June 28," Halcrow explained.

She said her family is searching all around the site, but not doing any digging. They plan to have someone stay camped out there until they get answers.
