This news is from over a week ago, but I missed posting it. Yet another domestic violence case where the alleged murderer was out on bail awaiting trial. grrrrrr!!!

In September, Shilei Du had been charged with criminal harassment in a domestic violence context, accused of making death threats against his partner. On Oct. 15, he was released pending trial.

Guangmei worked for Morgan Stanley. The news article says that police found her body on (Monday) Nov 11, and they presume that she died (Thursday) Nov 7. I wonder if her employer noted her absence on Friday, and then, when she didn't show up again on Monday, they called for a wellness check.

My son lives in Montreal and his close friend was friends with the victim. She has agreed to adopt the victim's cat and my son helped her move the cat and cat supplies last weekend. His friend is understandably very distraught.
The victim's parents live in China and they've come over to Canada to deal with things. I can't imagine out difficult this must be for them, half a world away from home and the further complication that they can't speak English (or French).

Here are a couple more articles which say she was actually found on Sunday Nov 10. Apparently an acquaintance called the police with concerns for her well-being.

Montreal man facing first-degree murder in woman's death; accused was on bail after allegedly threatening her

Du was not required to wear one, according to a list of release conditions set by the court when he was granted bail last month.
Part of his bail conditions after the uttering threats case prohibited him from being within 500 metres of Ye or being within 100 metres of her workplace. He was also banned from communicating with her or referring to her on social media.
The court also required him to "begin and finish an anger management therapy" and provide proof at every court date. His next court date was scheduled for Dec. 20.

Ye worked in data science and business analytics at the multinational investment bank, Morgan Stanley, for about three years.
The company, which has an office in Montreal, released a statement on Monday, saying, "We are devastated by the tragic loss of our colleague, Guangmei, and are committed to providing our full support to her family, loved ones and our many team members who are grieving during this incredibly difficult time."

Woman murdered in Candiac after alleged death threats, partner arrested (Montreal.CityNews)

A 36-year-old man was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Guangmei Ye, 29, in Candiac, on Montreal’s South Shore.
Shilei Du, the suspect, was the woman’s partner, and had previously been ordered to stay away from her after he allegedly made death threats towards her in September.

Du, whose current address is listed in Montreal, was arrested on Sunday at the home where Ye was killed.

I haven't been able to find out any information about the accused yet, other than his name is name and age and that he was found in their house, where her body was, in Candiac, on the South Shore area of Montreal. I wonder how they met. (Through school? Through work?)

Here is Guangmei's obituary, such as it is. Very short. I presume most of her friends were Chinese and kept things simple due to their age and culture.
Somehow the comments on the obituary make me feel even sadder for this young, bright woman.

Rest in peace Guangmei. You touched many people.

Oh my gosh this is so heartbreaking. I'm so sorry for your son's friend and her parents and cat and everyone who loved her.
Domestic violence of any form needs to be taken much more seriously. Once an abuser feels they have lost control they are sooo dangerous. This is so wrong and was preventable.
