If no one else is involved, she must have either set the timer (if there was one) or turned it on herself before going in, imo.
Or a malfunction

So far we’ve heard it was working properly—
““In a statement Monday, a department spokesperson said the order was lifted “after the oven was assessed and determined to have been operating as per the manufacturer’s requirements.””

i see where you are going with this...my question is if you are in a state of mind to do THIS to yourself would you disposition kind of give your work mates a question in an are you ok kind of wonder... i cant see her coming into work happy and bubbly and setting the oven to bake her...just a thought

It may have been user error, or self-harm, imo.

It sounds counterintuitive, but when people choose to take their lives they can seem to be at peace or happy because they have found a ‘solution’ to end their pain.

(This is in general, we don’t know what happened yet.)

To be fair, the Tibetan monks always look so peaceful in the photos I have seen of them on fire.

The police said no one else was involved. My guess is they know that because of cctv footage.

On February 3rd, the store reopened. The Department of Labour is still investigating. From the CBC:

“Walmart remains in contact with Kaur's family and will consider ways to honour the young woman, who was remembered as a kind person with a gentle spirit by those who knew her.

"Three months is still very recent for that magnitude of a tragedy," Ritcey said. "We'll continue to be in contact and make sure that we work out the best situation possible with them."”

I have to wonder (and maybe hope) that the police are releasing deceptive information about foul play not being involved in order to make a person of interest let their guard down and/or do something that helps lead to Justice for Gursimran - if Justice is warranted.

good thought...but everything ive read so far points to it being impossible to lock yourself in as the door has to be pushed and clicked....but if it does not click havent read anything that says the oven will start regardless the sets are on the outside

"putting up with her uncle"...?

In what context?

"Gursimran, who had since then been putting up with her paternal uncle, Gurvinder Singh, in Jalandhar before moving to Canada, was hopeful that her father would join them in Canada, where they would eventually all settle down." from The Tribune in India

Per police, "officers were called to the Gilster-Mary Lee Cereal Plant on Thursday afternoon." bbm
".... by the time emergency workers were able to get there, the man had died.

"The Perry County Coroner identified the victim as 38-year-old Nicolas Lopez Gomez from Guatemala who was working under the alias Edward Avila."
"An OSHA investigation has been opened." bbm

I wonder if a lack of English fluency may have led misinterpretation of safety instructions. Maybe, maybe not.

ETA: not saying a language problem actually contributed to either of these deaths, but it's possible.
Regardless, sad, sad, sad.

I haven't followed the Canadian case closely, so I don't know whether anyone has mentioned the provincial Worker's Compensation Board. Employers in Canada must follow safety regulations issued by their WCB, and they contribute funds to the WCB to provide insurance to workers if they're injured on the job.

WCB regulations are already very strict in Canada, around anything as dangerous as an oven.

Anyway, I'm sure Gursimran's case is being closely looked at by the Nova Scotia WCB, whether there was anything that could have prevented it. They are the ones that will issue new guidelines to everyone, to prevent any similar deaths in future: eg, if thought it was negligent: better training, training in worker's native language, perhaps a requirement for a 'buddy' system, so no one can turn on the oven by themselves - whatever they decide is needed. Canada is an extremely bureaucratic country, and employers who skip on safety will be closed down permanently, even if they are Walmart.

My sincere condolences to his family.
This does show us that it can happen accidentally, IMO.
I wish the article had explained in some detail what was suspected to have happened.

In this context, "putting up" means a temporary living situation.

Usually safety warnings are posted in English and Spanish.
