Canada - Gursimran Kaur, 19, Walmart worker found dead inside bakery oven - October 22, 2024

My thoughts are that even if this proves to be an accident in terms of she got stuck and couldn't get out, there will almost certainly be culpability in how it was possible for that to happen and if it amounts to criminal neglect.

Ie was the safety mechanism broken preventing her exit? Was this known and no one acted? Does that constitute a criminal act?

They’d most likely be fined, based on past cases in the province. Nova Scotia company fined $80,000 after worker dies in scaffolding collapse.

Walmart worker gives a chilling new take on how the 19-year-old employee 'baked to death' in the store's walk-in oven.

Last weekend, Gursimran Kaur's charred remains were found inside the walk-in oven of the Walmart she worked at in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

'I don't even know if I would fit in here,' she said. 'I'm 5 foot 1, medium built. I would have to crouch down to get in.'
Rbm.

Posting this link again to give insight as to how these ovens are built.

Both ovens featured in the article appear to show glass, see-through doors.
Hard to believe a person could be trapped with no one seeing them ?
Omo.

Do we even know what type or brand of oven was used at this store? I've seen various examples in this article and others but nothing definitive. Most of the examples have been from the US.

The whole missing thing is off to me unless they had finished up a shift and were supposed to head home or something and mom couldn’t find her- but I haven’t heard anything about that- or where they were supposed to be working- or why the 911 call said trapped - moo

Good question.
I don't know for sure.

One thing is certain, imo --Walmart will have a vested interest in determining if this was foul play (store not liable) or accident (store may be liable).
Although the ovens' maker (company) would be the most liable, if this was an accident ?

I feel the investigation would be being conducted by the DOL and not the police if this had the hallmarks of a workplace accident. I'm not privy to exactly what is going on, but this is the rare case in my back yard.

why would she not fit in there? are they not tall enough for a large stack of metal trays with bakery items on them??

I guess they may come in different sizes, but the one demonstrated in that video had a double door opening to a space the size of a small shower cubicle, but not as tall, so they would have to crouch a little to go inside. I suppose if it was taller, the bakers wouldn't be able to safely reach the goods on the highest racks.

Wouldn’t the doors have to have glass panels to know that someone was in there?

Since the bakery oven didn’t operate on the weekends how else would they know she was in there?
Daily Mail article says "Kaur's mother was searching through the store for her when she made her way into the bakery section.
There, a colleague noted 'leakage' coming from the walk-in oven."
