Canada - Gursimran Kaur, 19, Walmart worker found dead inside bakery oven - October 22, 2024

  • #121
There was a stop-work order in a piece of equipment in the bakery department until Walmart’s compliance was confirmed.Ti me, it sounds like the investigators found a an existing safety issue.

We don’t know what that means yet. We don’t know the specifics of what oven that store had or if there was an issue that led to the death.
If faulty equipment led to the death, we would know about it. It would essentially end the investigation.

I wrote that I believe it’s a safety issue they have rectified.

“The stop work order was lifted when compliance was confirmed, allowing bakery operations to safely resume should Walmart decide to do so,” the province’s Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration said in a statement Tuesday.”

What we don’t know if it was an issue prior to the death that contributed to it, or something they found that could improve overall safety.

Where did thr information come from that the bakery doesn't operate on weekends? That seems strange to me, don't they sell bakery products on weekends?

It was in one of the early articles- on the thread. .. I’ll see if I can find it…

Could the stop-work order been for the clean up? It's a gruesome thought but I did see the word "leakage" used in the articles..
Part of "safety" could also be sanitary conditions...

That's what I was assuming. Yes, they have to make sure the oven has all safety features functioning, but they all so have to make sure the place is clean for workers and the products they make for consumers.

Police saying little

Thanks for posting.

The Maritime Sikh Society will get answers when they get them. No different than anyone else in any other investigation.

I also assume they (the association and family) are reading these forums.

Other than intentional foul play- moo
Even then, i just dont understand why you would go out of the way to stage a scene like this. Its so risky

That I don’t know - unless it was really late, bakery closed or something and something happened/went wrong- someone panicked?, and tried to destroy evidence???

I have no clue- I can’t think of a scenario where it makes sense as plan A at all!

According to this, the Halifax WM is closed from 10pm on. It is now temporarily closed.

Where in the store did she and her mother work? Do we even know that?

Did the victim work anywhere with money or sales? At least money would offer a motive if this is foul play.

WM has a system of checks and balances so that it’s very rare that an associate (who is not management) is left alone with money. I don’t see this being able to happen.

My hunch this is going to be a tragic accident, not something done on purpose. Of course, that is just a guess at this point.

Because accidents with similar circumstances have happened in workplaces around the world before, I tend to think it's what's most likely, too. However would someone be running the oven at this day and time?

I am wondering if someone could, for example, preheat the oven, then open it to slide in trays, and the door accidentally shuts with them inside, and they could be trapped inside while it's on? (If it malfunctions, or they panic, or just don't know how to open it?)
And IF so, is the investigation trying to determine if something like that happened or if another person was involved? Just thinking here, All JMO.
