CANADA Canada - Harold Heaven, Minden, Ontario, 1934

I wonder how far along they are on their documentary investigation.

Snips:
Inspired by the story, the award-winning sketch comedy filmmaker has returned home with a film crew to take on a new project: uncovering what happened to Heaven for a documentary titled ‘For Heaven’s Sake.’ Mildon and his friend and film partner Jackson Rowe are shooting around Minden to unravel the mystery over the next two months. They plan to conduct interviews and search for Harold’s missing body.

Despite the disappearance happening more than 80 years ago, they said believe they will likely solve the case.

“We’ve done a lot of work,” Rowe said. “We have a lot of resources. We’re confident. We have some blanks to fill in certainly, but we feel like we’re making real progress.”

The filmmakers are looking for anyone who might have information on the case. They can be contacted at 1-800-858-9710 or [email protected].

''Heaven’s believed final resting place borders the location of a property line shared by a possible suspect mentioned in the OPP police reports from 1934. Descendants have long considered the spot a possible location of Heaven’s body, because of its odd composition of blast rock and other material which is inconsistent with the surrounding terrain, suggesting some disturbance of the site.

With the blessing of the Heaven family, along with advice of local law enforcement and archaeological experts, an excavation of this location will occur this week.

“This excavation is a thrilling end to our two year investigation. We are excited by the findings and more than a little anxious to get to the bottom of a case long thought unsolvable. The Heaven family has sought closure for over 85 years and we’re just as surprised as they are that we are the ones to find some answers,” said Mike Mildon.''
''We will have more on that on Wednesday''.

Wow! How fascinating. I wonder if that is human remains, if there will be enough DNA to verify his identity.

Thanks so much for your post! Any tips on exactly where to look? And I'm curious why you believe everyone had something metal on them back then. What kind of stuff?

From Sep 28th:

Documentary filmmakers Mike Mildon and Jackson Rowe hit a wall in their attempt to solve an 86-year-old mystery.

The pair have spent months working on their film “For Heaven’s Sake,” about their attempt to uncover what happened to Mildon’s great, great-uncle Harold Heaven, who disappeared in Minden 86 years ago. Police reports at the time suggested suicide, but the filmmakers have explored alternative theories. But they said they have struggled to uncover concrete evidence.

After being unable to find Heaven’s body with a lake search and land dig Aug. 12, the two said they are unsure of how to progress.

Also, an update on the "crime comedy docuseries" is that it was picked up by CBS All Access.

“The true-crime genre may never be the same as best friends Mike and Jackson rely on their real-life bond and total lack of crime-solving experience to try and figure out what happened to Mike’s great-great uncle Harold,” said Julie McNamara, executive vice president and head of programming for CBS All Access.

That looks like it will be good. I don’t have cable or even a TV, just internet. I’ll have to see if there’s a way I can watch it.

Harold Heaven went missing in late October 1934 from his cabin in Minden ON, on Horseshoe lake rd.

Any information you may know about the case is of great interest.
I would suggest using Google Earth & looking around the area by Satellite to see if any ground has been disturbed or see if you can find something out of place.

He was my Great Uncle. The Police ruled out foul play but my family has always maintained he would never just disappear with no explanation. I'm looking into solving this case myself and could use advice on where to start considering the disappearance happened so long ago. Any other outlets I should use?

This is a good read. Dr. Arpad Vass invented an investigative instrument that can detect a person's DNA buried in the soil. They used this tool and recovered the bodies of two girls that went missing over 40 years ago. This instrument is highly accurate, down the the very foot of where the specific DNA is being picked up on the scanner. This is something I would highly recommend looking into. If you can narrow down to some really good searching areas, this may assist in finding Harold's body if he was indeed buried in the ground.
