Circumstances of Disappearance:
Lafferty was last seen just outside of Fort Resolution in the Northwest Territories on October 8, 1960. He went to check the rabbit snares with his grandfather and never returned. He has never been heard from again. Some of his friends had reported that Lafferty had made plans to rejoin his mother in British Columbia. Few details are available regarding his disappearance and his whereabouts remain unknown.

Also, it says hair colour unknown, but perhaps he had ginger hair, since one of his nick names was Ginger Lafferty.

[We the Missing]

The RCMP website has posted a picture of children on a boat on Herbert's case file. I found the source of the original photo in the NWT Archives and it lists the names of 6 of the children on the boat. From the order of the children listed, I believe Herbert is the boy in the front middle. The picture is from 1959 and the notes are: [Group of children on deck] Fort Resolution, St. Gabriel boat; Robert Sayive, Herbert Lafferty, Ernest Beaulieu, Billy King, Leonard Beaulieu, George Mandeville, 1959.
