Canada - Homeless Man, Ken Lee, Stabbed to Death by 8 Teen Girls in "Swarming Attack", Toronto, Dec 2022

Today

Two pairs of nail scissors were found on the girl alleged to have fatally wounded Kenneth Lee, a court heard Tuesday.
The girl, 14 at the time, is the one responsible, of the eight girls arrested, for the deadly blow in Lee’s swarming death more than two years ago, the Crown alleged.
The Crown has not yet said what they allege to be the murder weapon or at what point during the attack the fatal blow occurred.

Some teens are as large and strong as adults.
Cannot imagine (maybe in a nightmare ?) being swarmed by a group of anyone, let alone what the courts view as 'kids', and the terror involved.
Rest in peace, Mr. Lee !

the courts, the system really needs an update as we are now in a different reality...as cousin vinnie would say the youts of today are into body shaping and have more strength then years ago. must not put fat on just muscle...although ive seen some 5'6" girls of 15 i would not to meet up with

I love that there are cases in the US that have underage individuals tried as adults, especially for serious crimes.

I don't know if this option exists in Australia either. I don't hear about any named teenage offenders. 10 years ago a 15 years old shot a police accountant dead outside the Sydney police headquarters, and was subsequently shot dead by police. The boy's name was disclosed but then he had died.

Smh.
The point of these searches is usually to ensure they don't have a weapon secreted on their person.
Not to humiliate.
And since they're juveniles and won't have their photos released, no one will know who they are except close friends/relatives.
So they could be anyone !!
Scary !
Omo.

it did say they were 'repeatedly strip searched'
so although I think they deserved more than probation, I am questioning why they needed to strip search them 'repeatedly'

When she looked over, she saw a group of girls descending on something like a pack of animals attacking their prey, she told the court. Only after she had pushed them off did she realize there was a person on the ground, Alexander said.

“They were kicking on him, stomping on him and spitting on him,” she said. “He was just on the ground … there was blood running from his face.”

More details...
“During this final wave of the attack, (she) picked up a pylon and walked towards Mr. Lee, who was pinned against the retaining wall by members of the group attacking him. She raised the pylon over her head and hit Mr. Lee with the orange construction pylon three times.”

Lee died later in hospital from stab wounds to the chest.

The girl’s co-accused before the judge-alone trial is alleged to be the stabber, who was 14 at the time. She had attempted to plead to manslaughter at the start of the hearing but it was rejected by the Crown. Final arguments are scheduled for Tuesday afternoon

One of the two girls on trial in the death of a homeless Toronto man pleaded guilty to manslaughter Tuesday after prosecutors said they had reassessed the strength of the evidence for second-degree murder in her case.

The girl, who was 16 at the time of the incident, entered her plea through her counsel as lawyers were expected to begin their closing submissions.

I looked up manslaughter for youth

The maximum jail term under the YCJA is three years. Manslaughter: Penalties range from probation to life imprisonment, although a life term is not an automatic sentence for manslaughter. If you have been charged with using a firearm at the time of the offence there is a minimum prison sentence of four years.
