Homicide unit investigating after woman found dead near York University
''On Thursday, police responded to a medical call at Murray Ross Parkway and Sentinel Road at around 9:40 p.m.

A woman was located in an apartment with injuries, police said.

She was pronounced deceased at the scene and her cause of death has not been confirmed by investigators.

It is unknown if the woman is a student at York University.''

Toronto police identify woman found dead near York University, suspect charged
''In a news release issued Saturday, police identified the woman as 32-year-old Leah St Jean of Toronto.

As well, police say that a 26-year-old Toronto man has been charged in connection with the ongoing homicide investigation.

Soreeysa Abdi is now facing a second-degree murder charge and is set to appear in a Toronto courtroom on Saturday.

It is unknown if the woman was a student at York University.

Anyone with information relating to the investigation is asked to contact Toronto police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.''

On Thursday, January 21, 2021, at 9:41 p.m., officers responded to a call for a medical emergency at 500 Murray Ross Parkway.

Officers attended an apartment where they located a woman suffering from serious injuries. The woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.
She has been identified as Leah St Jean, 32, of Toronto.
On Friday, January 22, 2021, Soreeysa Abdi, 26, of Toronto, was arrested. He is charged with:
1. Second Degree Murder
He will appear at Old City Hall court on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at 10 a.m., in room 112.''

''The victim’s family told Global News that the accused and the victim were roommates and added that another woman also lived in the apartment with them.

Global News has learned the accused was out on bail at the time of the incident in relation to alleged drug offences in North Bay. He’s set to appear in court next month on those charges.

It’s believed the victim, who is from North Bay, first met the accused in the northern Ontario city.''
